This is wrong. It is sad that Mr. Rohana claimed a lawyer but sadly his reading of law is wrong. This is the type of people we got at the helm of govt. Why blame govt when we have such people at the top.
This is not the first time top police officers giving incorrect messages as to the law of the country.
You may exercise your right to self defence only in proportion to the threat to you or your property only.
In simple terms if the thief is unarmed you cannot kill. If the thief is going to kill you or member of your family , then only you can exercise the right to self defence to the extreme to kill. Section 96 of Penal Code he mentioned is read with Section 92 of Penal Code. So proportionality is important part of self defence, you cannot exceed right of self defence to you and your property . If so it is an offence.
