I think plan of SL to play today without loosing much wickets. Score the runs on the 2nd day . But plan not worked.
Silva is defensive in nature machan. It is his class. We don't have samaraweera or Mahela to play long innings.
One opener should defensive in every test innings for team success.

Brathwaite, Lathem, Silva all are same class openers

Yeah but Brathwaite made a double century if I am not mistaken. Both Latham and Brathwate can be aggressive if it is needed machn.aggressive in the sense can play at a SR around 60-70. but Sila always play below 50.and Yeah Silva is defensive in nature. the problem is Karunaratne is not aggressive player either.So what happens when both the openers get bogged down against a good attack.from the word go we'll be in a hard situation. see why SA,Aus are no 1 and 2 in test cricket. both of them have openers who are mixture of defense and attack. defense doesn't mean going at SR of 7 odd. see Chris Rogers for Aus plays at 50 odd SR while Warner virtually goes at 100. same case for SA. being too much defensive won't give you anything machan which is the case for Silva.

We are pretty much screwed in tests and odi's, at least for a year and half. Still we are suffering from slc forcefully retiring Thilan Samaraweera
