If you go for a win & during the cause if you loose, then so be it.. That's the spirit we should have.. We are not brave enough in-terms of decision making.. We always fear of taking gambles. We always try to follow the safety first policy. Not only we also Pakistan. Teams like Aus, SA they take risks more often, & that is a one reason they been so successful in recent past. Also those games are more interesting & watchable..
It mainly depends on the captain's approach I think.. He is the one who determines whether to take the risk or not. Even in the field setting we are not maintaining closing fielders long enough. If a attacking shot been hit, mathews quick to remove that closing fielder & post him on the boundary. By doing so giving batsmen the easy single & less pressure on him. Also bowler would not be able to bowl enough ball to a batsmen continuously. That's what batsman looking for by taking bit of a risk. . So this in-turns play into batsmans hands. I saw this happen to even with our main strike bowlers. You need to tempted batsmans for big shots. That is where your chance come to pick up a wicket. Yes they may hit a boundry or two, but that is where your chance may also comes. When things are not going your way then you have buy a wicket. For that you sometimes you have to take a gamble or two.
Still Mathews to me, is a holding back captain. Not a one make things happen like Clarke does for australia. But his batting in this test series was outstanding.. Here I am not saying he is worst captain going around & we should look for alternatives. No he is good captaining the side at times. But if he could improve on those above points also, the would become a better captain & a player..

Its nt abt mathews for me its our culture.just not in cricket evn in general life we fear to take risks do smthng new. We r worried f lossing rather thn trying to win.coning out f a culture taking jobs thonking of u pension u get at 60 . Not only ckarke evn days with mark taylor they always had attacking fields .evn in onedayers they tend to hv 5 or6 inside.whenever wicket goes dwn thy hv 9 inside then.obviously they had a attack who cn bowl consistantly with it.
