A/L vs. Degree

අනෙ බන් බයිලා ගහන්න එපා ඉරිසියාවට..ආන්ඩුවෙ උපාදි දන්සල් වලට යන උන් කොහොමත් ඉරිසියයි...මම දන්න එකෙක් ඉන්නවා උ O/L කරෙ නැ BCS කරා එට පස්සෙ තව ඩිග්‍රි එකක් කරා එ ගමන් CISCO CCIE වෙනකන් කරා පොර දැන් ලක්ශෙකට වඩා පඩියක් ගන්නවා...ආන්ඩුවෙ උපාදි දන්සන් වලට යන උන්ට ඔව කියද්දි රිදෙනවා තමයි..

අඩුම ගානෙ උඹ වගේ උන්ට ඒ කෑම කන්න බෑනෙ. ඒ ඇති.
ලක්ශ 1 තියා 5 ගන්න එවුන් හිටියත් මට රිදෙන්නෙ මොකද මහත්තයො?
ඔන්න 9 ක් 10 ක් වගේ වුණානම් රිද්දගන්න තිබ්බ අමාරුවෙන් හරි

මොරටුව කියන්නේ ලංකාවේ තියන හොදම university එකක් ඒකෙ ගොඩක් උන් හොද සිරා ඩයල් එත් ඉදල හිටලා මේ වගේ අනාථ කේසුත් ඉන්නවා ඉතින්

සිරාවට බන්..විහින් ඩිමාන්ඩ් එක නැති කර ගන්නවා.. මොනා කරන්නද ඉරිසියාවට බෙහෙත් නැ බන්

Do not feed misinformation to youngsters asking for advice.
I have a degree from a different institution than the ones you mentioned, and I work in the IT industry.

If the interview panel who recruits you have actual brains, they will know better not to judge someone just from their degree, A/L results or O/L results. They would give you a chance to demonstrate your real ability and talent, and not reject you just because you don't have a degree from UoM (or wherever else).

I know people who do well in IT industry who did not even sit for A/L. They just went on do an IT degree just after O/L. Your ability, brains and a passion for what you do is all that matters. Not the university you get the degree from.

if a degree doesn't matter but skill, isn't it better to try his chances with A/Ls? safety is ensured anyway.

If he has already decided to choose IT as his career path, a degree with proper subject content would educate him better on the principles of IT, software engineering, computing, networking etc than Advanced Level.

I'm not saying don't do A/L. I'm just saying I personally know people who did not even sit for A/L and do well in IT. It's an option.

yes but O/L kids like that shouldn't be impressed by telling stories about bill gates, zuckerburg etc.. specially by people who failed to go to the moon and prevent others from even trying. he has no experience to take a decision on his own, its always better to make a safe path through A/L and try taking risks then. few years delay won't be a problem than getting wasted by chance.

Come on people it's not something to argue about. The OP wants some genuine insights from the experienced members over here. We all gave our honest opinions. That's it right? Because in the end it has to be his own choice right? Why are we insulting each-other over the internet? Can't we all use our time in more productive way to develop our country?
