Informed sources states that the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama is planning on surrendering its responsibility of issuing Halal certifications over to the government.
Sources note that this would be made public during a media briefing which is due to be held in Colombo this evening.
When contacted a spokesperson for the ACJU noted that the attention of the council had been directed towards conferring the responsibility of issuing Halal certifications over to the government.
While the ACJU urged companies to issue goods on a dual basis, bearing Halal certification & devoid of it, the Jathika hela Urumaya opposed this notion charging that it was impossible to execute.
