FYKI information , this is a Buddhist populous country but you have all taken so well to the laws and governance model handed down to you by THE COLONIZERS. The people who enslaved this land for hundreds of years , killed your kings , stole the resources etc etc and yet you have no issue with that. The existing laws are not based on any Buddhist scriptures.

The Islamic Banking system is another banking model based on islamic law. It doesn't demand you to change your way of life or doesn't enforce you to go with it. If you like it take or if not opt for conventional banking . simple as that. no need for a senseless hullabaloo

Oh I do understand that, banks will do anything as long as they can milk more money out of the customers. They don't really care whether it's sharia or any other law or such. My problem is why a different banking system for people based on their religion? like I said this isn't an Islamic state.

Mahinda is the person who backed Sharia Banking in Sri Lanka. They became powerful in an unimaginable speed for the past 5-6 years. Halal is another major aspect of showing their strength.

Mahinda has to take the responsibility, he should have take actions against these acts, but he never did, which explains why he's so corrupted by his own political arena.
