Customs Rules
Import regulations::
Nationals of Sri Lanka and Residents of Sri Lanka. Free import only by persons over 18 years of age:
- 2.5 litres of spirits; and
- 2 litres of wine; and
- 250ml of eau de cologne.
Non-Residents: Free import only by persons over 18 years of age:
- 1.5 litres of spirits; and
- 2 bottles of wine: and
- 250ml of eau de cologne; and
- small quantity of perfume; and
- souvenirs not intended for commercial use, up to the value of USD 250.-.
In case of members of a family travelling together, free import is in general only allowed for 2 members.
Note: No person shall import or export any raw material or finished products of cigarttes, cigars, beedi, or pipe tobacco without obtaining a Certificate of registration issued by the Commissioner General of Excise in Sri Lanka. If no Certificate of Registration is in possession, the items shall be seized and declared as forfeited by Customs in respect of Import or Export. Such items when brought in as passenger baggage in Commercial Quantities with a Certificate of Registration for Importation can be cleared on payment of Customs Duty, Other levies and a Penalty under the Customs Ordinance and non declaration of such items will be an offence under the Customs Ordinance. Passengers should consult a Customs Officer On Duty for any doubts.
Passengers are required to declare upon arrival valuable personal effects to ensure free export.
Prohibited:
- dangerous drugs or narcotic substances;
- pornographic or seditious materials;
- any material ridiculing any religious belief.
Restricted:
- fire arms, ammunitions, explosives and weapons;
- pharmaceuticals and medicines, except for personal use;
- goods for commercial or trade purposes, except trade samples;
- plants, fruits, birds and their products. In case of import, a permit from the Director General of Agriculture of Sri Lanka as well as a Phytosanitary Certificate must be obtained prior to travel. If failing to present these document, materials will be collected and destroyed by the Plant Quarantine Authority.
