if ur interested in Networking I think CCNA is the place to be. The .Net framework contains a module called ASP.net which is entirely for web engineering. Plus there are languages like PHP and JavaScripts that you might wanna learn. Those are interesting stuff. Plus machan these days there is a hype for JSP (Covered in SCJP upper levels) due to security reasons. So i recommenced you have a hand on that also.darshanarc said:ok..now im following that BCS. its full time course in the Esoft and for the full time they offer some vendor certifications like VB. NET(MCSD), SCJP and CCNA. I select VB.NET and for additional CCNA.
I want to be a Web engineer but Im not good in programming. so im not interested in Software development but i like Networking also. Can you tell me what are the fields that currently available in the job market(IT). If I select my future carrier as a web developer can i go ahead and what are the additional qualifications which what i need?

If u are doing AL in Math & intending on entering to the computer field, there good options wating for u.
Starting from Computer Engineering in Moratuwa university which'll give u BSc. Eng. degree, but of course u won't be directly selected to this as first u have to face two exams (2 semester exams) & then have to score a high GPA & then u can select this field.
Then again in Moratuwa university u have B.IT which was introduced in very recent times & a 4 year course but to ur choice u can finish it & leave in the third year for a job. If u only want to do Honors. u can do the fourth year too.
Then again u have Computer Science degree ( I think software focused one), which Heshan ayiya is engaged in. U can get more info about this when comes back online.
There is also BIT, which u can either enter through AL examination or externally, again another 3 yr course.
More info about Computer Engineering & Moratuwa BSc..IT can be aacquired from Moratuwa university official site.
I'll give u more information about Moratuwa university IT programms.

heshan123 said:Aniva machan. Me okkama sira degrees offered by Sri Lankan universities. If you can enter one of these, it will be great. But do not worry if you come down a little in your A/Ls and you have to do it from some place like APIIT. Its quite ok. There are several ways to get to the same destination.![]()
ok, in my opinion HR is a great field. Just that it requires special skills from you to be a good HR manager. The thing is machan lot of Sri Lankans dont know how to talk, present themselves or behave in a working environment due to lack of soft skills. Oppose to us foreigners are quite good at this. So we find HR pretty difficult. Sri Lankans are really good at technical stuff but not human interaction.DJ.Parker said:great thread!
well I put a thread sumtym ago asking abt HR field....n the response I got was that vacancies r limited in that field n its quite hard to get promotions......... may be any1 here can tell me more abt it?![]()

So my advice to you is, dont be afraid of what others say about the field. This is a great field and since most of the Sri Lankans are not good at it, there is a good gap in the market. So go ahead and do it.
As far as i know IPM offers well recognized HR programs. See what you can gather from there.
of course there is machan. As i said HR is a good place to start a good carrier. Plus I think Sri Lankan music is in for a good start now so you can do something related to that. And possible Cinema or Sports or something out of the ordinary. Im sure if you are talented there are always opportunities. So do not worry, just have faith.CoolCartoon said:great thread machan. really helpfull cuz ek have lot of members who nearly finishing their AL......thanx 4 opening this.
unfortunately i dont have much knowledge of these things cuz i wasnt in touch with SL education in long time.![]()
machan except IT and commerce fields ( cima , cim... ) is nt there any paths to go students after A/L ????

SLIIT is attached to the UGC machan so they are recognized as a uni(I think). I believe X-Pert was at SLIIT for sometime before he left to Aussie. Better PM him regarding this.CoolCartoon said:
as i know SLIIT is the only private institute which provinding sri lnkan degree, is nt it ???

Yep machan, Colombo uni and J'Pura uni has specialized HR degrees. Im not sure about Colombo but J'Pura surely offers somewhat the same degree externally. So to the websites and find out. Both these unis are pretty recognized.DJ.Parker said:is it available as an external degree in local uni's?(I guess its availabe for the internal degree)
Inside SL machan I think its software. Simply coz we dont manufacture computer hardware in SL due to lack of technology. But outside SL they are pretty much the same.rash87 said:with some thing little called "MONEY"![]()

Hey machan anyway, is it a Computer Hardware engineer or Software Engineer has the higer reputation in the field? Who is getting paid the highest salleries?
Well HR mangement is used in many fields. The latest trend is in Planning field. Especially in Physical Planning HR is major factor. In Jayawardenapura university there is a specific degree for this. Other than hat in Urban Planning & Quantity Surveying (both in Moratuwa university) lectures on this as a adjacent subject with the main.DJ.Parker said:great thread!
