The simple answer is that it depends on what you need to do. A microwave & a conventional oven are two different things. A Microwave oven is ideal for reheating. It does that job pretty fast.
Even if you can defrost fast the result is not the same. For example if you defrost frozen fish, after you cook it you will note a difference in the texture of the cooked fish. Leave the fish in the normal fridge for a day, then leave it outside so that it gets naturally thawed, the cooked fish is different.
A microwave oven is way faster... no pre-heating. But a conventional oven offers fine temperature control. Certain foods needs to be cooked at a certain temperature. Even if you go for a Microwave with convection heating the results are not the same.
One instance that a microwave comes handy is if you BBQ Chicken drumsticks. Place these in for a few minutes in a microwave first, then you can cook these faster.
