Xavi slams Mourinho's tactics with Real Madrid

    250199_heroa.jpg

The Barcelona star believes the Portuguese coach's side lacked the style and philosophy of the Galacticos team of the turn of the century Barcelona midfielder Xavi has slammed Jose Mourinho's brand of football while at Real Madrid, claiming his style was not befitting a club of its stature.

Despite wresting the Liga crown from Barcelona in 2011-12, the Portuguese's stint at Santiago Bernabeu became marred by on-pitch controversy and dressing-room spats, most notably with club captain Iker Casillas.

Xavi believes Mourinho's conduct was a blot on the reputation of los Blancos, and pointed to the Galacticos era at the turn of the century as evidence of how a club of such stature should operate.

"I don’t want people to think that I’m always attacking Mourinho, that’s not my intention, but obviously I don’t like the way his teams play on the pitch,” the 33-year-old revealed to Sport. "It annoyed me to see them play like that before they had an idea and a concept before. [Zinedine] Zidane, Roberto Carlos - they were incredible.

"They dominated every area of the pitch. You had to look at the facts and just admit they were better. It was the same with the Madrid side in the 'Quinta del Buitre' era, another amazing team with a clear and sound philosophy.

"A big club can't play like Mourinho's Madrid. We don’t let the pitch dry up so it turns into a ‘potato field’, nor do we kick the other team 30,000 times or try to turn up the heat in a game. We didn’t even do that when Madrid went above us.

"We’ve won, drawn and lost, but always according to a footballing philosophy. The result is an impostor; it goes beyond winning and losing."

Madrid lost its Liga crown to Barcelona last season before Mourinho opted to quit the club in favor of a return to Chelsea.

Llorente: Juventus is as big as Real Madrid and Barcelona

    287120_heroa.jpg

The Spain international is flattered to be playing for the Serie A champion next season after an acrimonious departure from Athletic Bilbao Fernando Llorente is relishing the prospect of playing for Juventus next season, insisting it is a club to rival Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The outgoing Athletic Bilbao striker, who will leave his boyhood club once his contract runs out this summer, is enthused by the prospect of playing under Antonio Conte's leadership at one of Europe's elite sides.

"It's one of the best teams in Europe and the best in Italy," the 28-year-old told Marca. "Juventus has impressed me ever since it expressed an interest.

"It's a really big club, comparable to Real Madrid and Barcelona. I'm lucky to be able to play for a team like that. It's as though I've always known it was my team."

Despite excited at his imminent move to Italy, the Basque forward admitted he has been saddened by the acrimonious nature of his departure from his boyhood club, with coach Marcelo Bielsa restricting him to just four starts in last season's La Liga.

"I've always attempted to choose the best option for both Athletic and me. I tried to get the best deal but I came up against a brick wall," he concluded.

"I didn't want to go for free. Neither did I want to have the year I've had. I'll never go through that again if I can do anything to avoid it."

    Iniesta calls for Barcelona evolution

    276606_heroa.jpg

The midfield star believes changes are vital to help the club continue to compete for titles and take its "revenge" in the Champions League Andres Iniesta believes there must be an evolution at Barcelona in order for the club to compete for top honours next season.

The Blaugrana stormed to the Liga title with a record-equalling points tally of 100, but a 7-0 aggregate semifinal defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League left many to consider the Catalans' era of dominance in Europe to be drawing to a close.

Tito Vilanova has responded to Barca's shortcomings with the 57 million euro signing of Brazil starlet Neymar, and Iniesta admits that further changes are vital if the club is to mount a serious challenge in Europe and take "revenge" in the competition.

"There will be changes, because it is the evolution that has to happen every year in order for the club to continue competing at the highest level," he said in an interview on Cuatro.

"Next year, we will not reach the semifinals of the Champions League with practically no competition. We will try to take our revenge in this competition."

Iniesta notched an impressive 16 assists in 31 appearances in Barcelona's title-winning Liga campaign last season, but the 29-year-old insists personal tallies are not the correct way to judge the success of a season.

"I feel content at having finished a season and I have the feeling things have gone well, more or less," he contined. "You can't analyse it by the goals you've scored or the assists you've been able to create, because there are many more crucial things in the game that mean more than how many goals or passes.

"My goal is simply to finish the year and think I have done better than in the last one."

De Bruyne has not discussed Chelsea future with Mourinho

    218220_heroa.jpg

The Belgium international admits he is yet to hold talks with new Blues boss but insists he wants to play regular football and does not want to sit on the bench
Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne says he has yet to discuss his future with new manager Jose Mourinho with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in the frame for his signature.

The Belgian spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, scoring 10 times in 32 league appearances during a hugely successful spell in Germany which has caught the attention of the Bundesliga giants.

However, De Bruyne admits he is unsure where his future lies and has not spoken to Mourinho yet, although he is expecting talks in the near future.

"[I haven't spoken to Mourinho] yet, but I think the time will come," he told Sky Sports.

"The season is over now. We will see what happens."

De Bruyne also added that with competition for places at national level hotting up ahead of next summer's World Cup, he will not be content with a bit-part role.

"The most important thing for me is to play games," he added.

"I know that I will be stressed when I play a few games on the bench.

"I always try to give my best for the team and I've had a great season, but also next season I need to play a lot of games. With the point of the World Cup, it's very important."

Dos Santos wants to continue in Spain
    284584_heroa.jpg

The Mexican winger says he would like to continue his career in Spain even after his club was relegated. The club future of Giovani Dos Santos has been the subject of mounting speculation ever since Mallorca got relegated on the last day of the La Liga season, but he has revealed that his preference is to stay in Spain.

“Of course I want to stay in Spain,” the 24-year-old told reporters following the Mexican national team.

Valencia has shown interest in the forward and rumors suggest Espanyol and Villareal could also be in the mix. Then there is the audacious bid from MLS side LA Galaxy, or the possibility that he will continue with Mallorca and try to help the club get promoted back into Spain’s first division.

Dos Santos is trying to push the big decision back, focusing at present on helping Mexico towards Brazil 2014 in the World Cup qualifiers and then the Confederations Cup.

“What’s going to happen with my future? I don’t think even I know,” said Dos Santos. “But it isn’t time to talk about it, I’m with the national team and I just want to concentrate on the qualifier (against Costa Rica on Tuesday) and the Confederations Cup and the rest we’ll see.”

Dos Santos had perhaps the best season of his club career for Mallorca, playing double the minutes he has in previous seasons in Europe and scoring six goals over his 29 appearances.

Former Barcelona VP: Messi would have become great anywhere

    274641_heroa.jpg

The current Manchester City CEO has hailed the Blaugrana's treatment of the forward, but believes the Argentina international would have become a star at any club Lionel Messi would have developed into a world-class player at any club, according to former Barcelona vice-president Ferran Soriano.

The prolific attacker joined the Barca youth academy at the tender age of 11 and has since developed into one of the best players the game has ever seen, winning four Ballons d'Or up till date.

"Messi is an extraordinary talent, pretty much unmatched. He would have developed into a great at any team," the current Manchester City CEO told La Nacion. "However, he was planted in very fertile soil at Barcelona. He was watered and tended to with a lot of care in a good system."

Soriano added, "While Messi was growing, Barcelona looked after him to make sure all the basics were OK and to keep giving him new challenges, like playing against older opponents. He didn't get complacent that way and always had to give his best.

"When he turned professional, his contract was improved a number of times without him asking for a pay rise. That kept him calm and relaxed and made sure that he felt appreciated."

The 25-year-old has netted well over 200 La Liga goals for Barca since making his official league debut in 2004-05.

El Shaarawy targets Milan stay amid Manchester City links

    287118_heroa.jpg

The promising forward has ruled out a summer transfer amid suggestions that he could be on the move, while Adriano Galliani has stressed the youngster is not for sale Stephan El Shaarawy says he has no intention of leaving AC Milan for Manchester City as he is happy with life at the San Siro giant.

The 20-year-old has been one of the revelations of the 2012-13 campaign, netting 16 goals in 37 Serie A appearances, and has recently been linked with a move to the Premier League runner up.

El Shaarawy is keen to stay at Milan, though, and is not interested in a move to City for now.

"It is flattering if Manchester City really want me, but I want to stay here. I don't think that I will leave Milan," the Italy international told La Repubblica.

"I have always felt that everybody at the club believes in me, the coach, the direction and my teammates. I also have them to thank for breaking into the national team."

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, meanwhile, has insisted the young forward is going nowhere, while former Rossoneri striker Filippo Inzaghi has advised him to stay put.

"El Shaarawy is untouchable, he's not leaving Milan," said Galliani.

"He should stay at Milan. He can still grow as a player here," added Inzaghi.

El Shaarawy signed a new contract with Milan until 2018 earlier this year.

Neuer refuses to rule out future move abroad

    262164_heroa.jpg

The goalkeeper has insisted he is not thinking about a transfer for now, but has hinted he could be on the move at a latter stage in his career.Manuel Neuer says he is happy with life at Bayern Munich but has refused to rule out a future move abroad.

The Germany international joined Bayern from Schalke in the summer of 2011 and believes he made the right choice to make the switch to the Bundesliga champions.

However, he has admitted he could be on the move in the future if he ever feels that he needs a new challenge.

"Winning the treble was confirmation for me that joining Bayern rather than moving abroad was the right decision," the shot-stopper told Bild.

He added, "I am not thinking about a possible future after Bayern at the moment. I have never experienced a team where the players have such a high level of respect toward each other and I am very happy to be part of this team.

"But I obviously don't know what will happen in the future. Things can go pretty quick in football. I can all of a sudden reach the moment where I need a new challenge ..."

The 27-year-old has a contract with Bayern until the summer of 2016.
