Klopp envisions 'historic' night of football

    220889hp2.jpg

The BVB boss believes Tuesday's game will be remembered for years to come - regardless of which team emerges victorious.Jurgen Klopp is envisioning a "historic" night of football when his Borussia Dortmund side face Real Madrid in the second-leg of their Champions League semi-final.
Die Schwarzgelben ran out 4-1 winners in the first-leg last Wednesday, making them strong favorites at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the BVB boss is expecting a special evening.

"We know what can happen in football, either way, something historic will happen," the 45-year-old told reporters at the pre-match press conference. "If we get eliminated, it will be historic, if Madrid turn the match, it will be historic as well.

"My players cannot fail tomorrow, they can only give their best, there's no doubt about this. We have to show that BVB will do everything in their power to reach the final. We don't have the feeling of already being in the final. But we have built us a solid foundation, which we didn't expect. We're not in the final yet, but we're fighting for it."

Meanwhile, midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has reflected on the last three encounters against Jose Mourinho's side, reminding that the club has already taken home a positive experience from the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this season.

"We've already have the experience of playing here, successfully as well, and it's always a sensational feeling to play here in Madrid," he said.

Thiago Silva 'happy' with ambitious Paris Saint-Germain

    205226hp2.jpg

The Brazilian says he is enjoying his time in the French capital and wants to be a part of a bright future with the Ligue 1 leader.

Thiago Silva says he is content at Paris Saint-Germain and "glad to be part of an ambitious project".

The 42 million euro signing from AC Milan has helped his side to the top of Ligue 1, with les Parisiens on the cusp of winning their first domestic league title since 1994.

The defender has gained critical acclaim so far this season through a string of impressive performances and says he has no plans to move away from Paris any time soon.

"I'm glad to be part of an evolving team," the 28-year-old told le 10 Sport. "I'm happy in Paris, I'm happy to play with great players and to be part of an ambitious project. We were eliminated in the Champions League quarterfinals but we played well in both games. Today, I hope that with my teammates we will form an even stronger team."

The capital club is nine points clear at the summit of Ligue 1 and could be crowned champion next weekend if it takes three points against Valenciennes.

On Sunday, Javier Pastore's 50th minute strike guided PSG to a 1-0 victory over Evian.

Mourinho: I never told Klopp I was going to Chelsea

    273442hp2.jpg

The Portuguese coach has dismissed reports that claimed he is set to return to the Premier League giant and is focused on the match against Dortmund.Jose Mourinho has insisted that he never told Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp that he will leave Real Madrid for Chelsea at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

German tabloid Bild reported after the first leg of the Champions League semifinal tie between both sides that the Portuguese had told his opposite number that he would return to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Klopp already stressed that he never told anyone that the former Inter boss will leave Madrid at the end of the season, though, and Mourinho himself has now added that he did not tell the BVB trainer anything about his plans for the future.

"I never told Klopp that I was going to Chelsea," Mourinho said at a press conference.

The 50-year-old then went on to state that the outcome of the tie against Borussia Dortmund will not influence his decision on his future.

"My future doesn't depend on what happens Tuesday," he continued. "Will it be my last game? I am only thinking about the match against Dortmund. It's the most important game of the past 10 years for Madrid. My future is not on my mind."

Madrid will be looking to overturn a 4-1 first leg deficit in the return leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Liverpool in Anfield naming rights talks

    112623hp2.jpg

Qatari based firm Ooredoo has been linked with a big money sponsorship deal with the Reds that could see the stadium renamed as part of the agreement.Qatari telecom firm Ooredoo has been linked with a multimillion pound sponsorship deal with Liverpool which could result in the renaming of Anfield.

Liverpool’s current sponsor Standard Chartered has 18 months remaining on a 20 million pounds contract with the Merseyside outfit, and is in talks with Liverpool chiefs to extend the deal.

A period of exclusivity had been agreed with Standard Chartered to broker new deals although Ooredoo has now claimed it has received a tender from Liverpool and the firm is keen to become associated with the Premier League.

Regarding the potential deal, a spokesman for Ooredoo told Al Jazeera: "The goal was to sponsor a big English club with a huge history. Our search included Arsenal and Manchester United but the former two have long sponsorship deals and the same applies to Manchester City so Liverpool is the only club available right now."

The spokesman added: "We want to sponsor the club in full. We want to sponsor the stadium (possibly rename it) as well as the club's kits. Our goal is to reach the Asian markets where the Premier League has an enormous fan base.

"We received the tender from the club a few days ago and we are currently in the process of due diligence and we are studying each aspect of the study. It is a dual interest, Liverpool needs the money to compete with the European heavyweights and we want to expand our brand to reach new markets via football."

:DCristiano Ronaldo denies cheating on girlfriend

    276018hp2.jpg

The prolific attacker has dismissed claims that he slept with a Brazilian model just 48 hours before Real Madrid's 4-1 loss to Dortmund.

Cristiano Ronaldo has vehemently denied claims that he cheated on his girlfriend Irina Shayk with Brazilian model Andressa Urach, also known as 'Miss BumBum'.

Urach told The Sun on Sunday that she had slept with with the Real Madrid star at the Hotel Villa Magna just 48 hours before the first leg of Madrid's Champions League semifinal tie against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park, but the player has insisted there's no truth in the Brazilian's comments.

"I was informed that The Sun, faithful to its editorial line, will publish an article where it has given voice to a so-called Andressa," Ronaldo wrote on his official Twitter page.

He added: "Someone seeking the limelight on my account. And I wonder why this happens one day before a very important game for my team. Deeply outraged by a situation intended, in vain, to affect my personal life, I just want to clarify...

"I was in fact at the Hotel Villa Magna on April 22 giving an interview to Manu Sainz, something the reporter himself is able to corroborate. Everything else is pure fiction and forgery."

Ronaldo is currently preparing for the return of Madrid's semifinal against Dortmund at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

Effenberg: Bayern has it in the bag

    118449hp2.jpg

The former midfielder believes his old club is well on its way to Wembley, but feels Borussia Dortmund faces a trickier test in seeing off Real Madrid.Stefan Effenberg says Bayern Munich is already in the Champions League final as the club prepares to face Barcelona in the second leg of their semifinal tie.

The Bundesliga champion handed the Blaugrana their biggest European Cup defeat since 1997 by thrashing them 4-0 at the Allianz Arena last Tuesday.

And despite their still being 90 minutes of the tie left, Effenberg is confident FCB will finish the job off at Camp Nou, but has reservations over BVB's second-leg clash with Real Madrid - regardless of the 4-1 win in the first leg.

"Bayern are through, they will not allow anything to happen in Barcelona," the 44-year-old told reporters. "BVB also have a good opportunity to reach the final, but Real will try everything in their own stadium. That will be a really dicey contest.

"An all-German final would be a real dream come true," added Effenberg.

Dortmund and Madrid do battle at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night, while Barca and Bayern face one another for a second time on Wednesday.

Hitzfeld 'convinced' of all-German Champions League final

    234968hp2.jpg

The Switzerland coach is certain that the Bundesliga's two leading clubs will meet at Wembley in May.Ottmar Hitzfeld is "convinced" that his former club Bayern Munich will face off against Borussia Dortmund in this year's Champions League final.

In the first leg of the semifinals, the Bavarians beat Barcelona 4-0, while Die Schwarzgelben will go into their second leg match against Real Madrid with a 4-1 advantage.

Hitzfeld does not believe the two Spanish clubs will be able to turn around their ties at home this week.

"I still remain convinced that Dortmund will reach the final, where they will meet FC Bayern, but it won’t be easy," the 64-year-old told Bundesliga.com. "I believe that neither Dortmund nor Bayern will lose in Spain."

Hitzfeld, who won the Champions League as a coach with both Dortmund and Bayern, was impressed by the way his former clubs defeated the two Spanish giants, and feels there may be a changing of the guard in Europe.

"If you consider that the Bundesliga leaders beat the Liga leaders 4-0, and the Bundesliga’s second-placed side that of La Liga 4-1, then the goalposts really have been moved," he explained. "There is a changing of the guard taking place, but Dortmund and Bayern need to confirm that in the second legs."

Dortmund will play its second leg against Madrid on Tuesday, while Bayern faces off against Barca at Camp Nou on Wednesday.

:(:(:sorry:Agent: Lewandowski unlikely to join Manchester United this summer

    275297hp2.jpg

Maik Barthel has revealed the Dortmund striker is keen on a move to the Premier League but concedes a move to England this summer "is not the future"
Robert Lewandowski's agent has revealed the Borussia Dortmund striker is unlikely to join Manchester United this summer.

The 24-year-old, who has scored 33 goals in 39 appearances this season, has a year remaining on his contract with the German club and has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford at the end of the campaign. Lewandowski's representative, Maik Barthel, insists the Poland international is keen to play in the Premier League but has played down a switch to England this summer.

"I can tell you only one thing - Robert is interested in the future coming to the Premier League," Barthel told the Guardian. "The Premier League is very interesting for Robert. How long is the future, I cannot say to you. I think this summer is not the future."

When asked whether Lewandowski will join Bayern Munich, Barthel replied: "I don't know."

On Sunday, Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke conceded the club will discuss "decent offers" for Lewandowski but claimed the decision does not mean the forward will leave Jurgen Klopp's side.

:eek:Linesman handed lifetime ban for assaulting player

    276089hp2.jpg

Musa Kadyrov was handed a lifelong ban from officiating in Russia after launching an attack on a young defender, but some say the official should be dealt with more severely.

An assistant referee in Chechnya has been issued with a lifetime ban on Monday following an assault on an 18-year-old player.Linesman Musa Kadyrov launched an attack on Amkar Perm defender Ilya Krichmar in the later stages of Sunday's match with local team Terek in Grozny, Chechnya.

"The referee blew the final whistle and I started walking to our bench when suddenly someone came from behind me, pushed me to the ground and began kicking and punching me," the victim told reporters. "Terek players then joined the attack. Someone grabbed me by the throat, another hit me ... bloodying my face.
"Thank God, my teammates came to the rescue. Special thanks to [Oleg] Vlasov from Terek. We had known each other from a youth academy in St Petersburg and he helped me escape."Authorities within the local game in Chechnya were united in condemning Kadyrov, but differed on the severity of the punishment.

"He has only worked on a regional level but we made the decision to ban him for life, therefore he won't be able to officiate matches at any level," Chechan chief of football Lom-Ali Ibragimov told R-Sport.

The general secretary of the Russian Players' Union (RSFT) also thinks that other steps should be taken."We feel just banning Kadyrov is not enough," Nikolai Grammatikov told Reuters. "The RFU must take a much tougher stance on this because assaults on players have become an almost regular occurrence in Grozny.

"We think preventing Terek to host reserve matches in Grozny for a year should teach Chechen authorities a lesson, otherwise it is just going to get worse and worse."

:love:Manchester United in Ronaldo bid report

    ronaldocelebvunited20130213_576x324.jpg

Manchester United are readying a summer offer for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo, according to a report in the Sun.
Sir Alex Ferguson has this season led United to a 20th league title win, but made it clear in the immediate aftermath that the Red Devils cannot afford to rest on their laurels.

Ferguson is reported to have a desire to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, having reluctantly agreed to his sale to Madrid in 2009 for a world-record fee of £80 million, and this could be the summer he makes his move.

Ronaldo, 28, has two years remaining on his contract and there are rumours swirling that he is prepared to wind down his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu.
In January, ESPN learnt Ronaldo no longer sees his long-term future at Madrid and has made it known to United that he favours an eventual return to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have been monitoring the situation, but the Sun claims news of interest from Paris Saint-Germain in Ronaldo has alerted Ferguson.A United source is quoted as saying the club have contacted Ronaldo's agent to make it clear that they are interested."United are not happy now PSG have made their move with a substantial offer," the United source is quoted as saying in the Sun. "They will not give up, however, and have told Ronaldo's agent of their intent."

Ronaldo's focus at the present time is on Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final with Borussia Dortmund, with the Spanish giants trailing 4-1 from the first leg.

Sheik Mansour close to $100m deal to start new MLS side... with link to Premier League giants

    article-2316808-01C5982600000514-345_634x357.jpg

Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour of Abu Dhabi is close to sealing an astonishing $100million deal to establish a new Major League Soccer team in New York.
The billionaire owner of the deposed Barclays Premier League champions has been in top-secret discussions with MLS for months about establishing a lucrative franchise in the USA.
Sportsmail understands that a deal is close and the Sheik is hopeful he, and MLS officials, will be in a position to announce its completion when Roberto Mancini’s side play an exhibition game against Chelsea in New York at the end of next month.

Nobody at City will comment and it is understood that there are some crucial details to be ironed out before the deal can go through.
Sources close to the situation suggested last night there is still an outside chance the move may fall at the final hurdle.
However, staff at all levels at City are now working towards an announcement being made in New York next month. If and when it is established, the new club would be tied intrinsically to City and would probably be based in the New York borough of Queens, near to the home of the New York Mets baseball team and Flushing Meadows, venue for the US Open tennis tournament.
The team would be ready to play in the 2016 season and although the name of the franchise is a closely guarded secret, sources in America have suggested that ‘New York City FC’ is a possibility.
The Sheik’s move would be enormous for the development and profile of the MLS. To have a team playing in the league owned and run by one of the biggest names in European football would have an immediate impact on its credibility and commercial value.
For City and the Sheik, the move is seen as a way of planting their flag firmly in the one corner of the globe not conquered commercially by European clubs. They would also use the MLS to blood young players.
Given that City are relative newcomers to the top table — the Sheik only bought the club in 2008 — they have found lucrative foreign markets in Asia and South Africa have been sewn up by traditional powerhouses such as Manchester United, Liverpool and, to a lesser extent, Chelsea and Arsenal.

However, previous attempts by the big clubs to do likewise in America have failed. United, for example, established a tie-up with the New York Yankees baseball club in 2001 but the venture proved fruitless.
But with City acutely aware of UEFA’s new Financial Fair Play rules, they need to explore every revenue stream.
The club are investigating ways of partnering with clubs in Mexico, China and elsewhere in Asia, as a way of developing the City brand.
The American league has been looking to expand for some time. And there is no team based in the city of New York, with the New York Red Bulls playing in nearby New Jersey.:P
