Terry: I could handle being dropped by Chelsea

    john-terry-chelsea-premier-league-24052015_tj14c2mdnpsf1r4tthu8wsgy0.jpg

Chelsea captain John Terry is prepared for the possibility of losing his place at Stamford Bridge this season.

The former England international turns 35 in December and, with the Blues set to vie for a second consecutive Premier League title this season, will face competition for a starting berth from Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma, while the club are also chasing John Stones of Everton.

Taking the example of Petr Cech, who sat obligingly on the bench as Jose Mourinho's No.2 last season before being granted a move to Arsenal this summer, Terry is willing to work hard as a reserve if he is overtaken.

But after Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard left for Major League Soccer rather than sign for a team in direct opposition to the Reds, the Chelsea skipper says that he would not join another Premier League team if he were to move on next summer to finish his career with regular first-team football.

"Every summer I work more or less every day to give myself the best chance. If it comes to that point where I am left out of the side, I know it's not through any fault of not trying," Terry told reporters. "To look at myself in the mirror and my family, that is all I do in my career.

"I could handle being out of the team. No doubt, people like me and Steven want to play, of course. That is our natural instinct. When you play your whole career, it's hard [not to do so]. Petr Cech was a model professional last year and that is why he got the move he wanted, because of how well he reacted around the place.

"I have seen other players go the other way. I certainly would go down the Petr route and continue giving everything to the squad. If I then felt Chelsea were going to release me or thought I had nothing else to give, but I thought I could, then of course I would still want to continue to play but that would not be in the Premier League.

"I am not taking anything for granted. The manager has said that, if I can keep my form, I am in the side but, if I don't keep my form, he will have no qualms about taking me out and putting someone else in.

"We have an honest relationship. I don't doubt that he trusts me. I hopefully can repay that because he has been superb to me. I will give him everything and he has been a father figure in my career so I owe him an awful lot. I realise one day that my career will come to an end so I want to give everything these next few years."

I love Di Maria, he will take PSG to a new level - David Luiz

    angel-di-maria-manchester-united_izl80njl0mep1t2nk4gd4s1ox.jpg

David Luiz is hopeful that Paris Saint-Germain will sign Angel Di Maria, as he believes that the Argentine's arrival could transform the French giants into genuine Champions League contenders.

The 27-year-old winger is said to be closing in on a move from Manchester United to PSG after missing a flight to join up with the Red Devils' pre-season tour of the US, with Laurent Blanc admitting there is a "good possibility" of the Ligue 1 side capturing him.

Di Maria has struggled to live up to his British record £59.7 million transfer fee while in the Premier League but prospective new team-mate David Luiz is convinced that he is still a quality player who can elevate PSG and take the French league by storm.

"We want to win the Champions League and of course Di Maria is a player that can help us go up another step," the Brazilian told reporters after PSG's defeat on penalties to Chelsea in Charlotte, North Carolina.

"Di Maria is one of the top three wingers in the world. He's fast, technical, he plays for the team, he knows how to play as an individual, how to pass, how to score.

"Sometimes you can not have luck in one place but he is still a fantastic player. I know him from Benfica; we played with each other when we were very young.

"He will love playing in the French league just like I do. He is my friend and I love him."

Di Maria scored just three Premier League goals in 27 appearances for United, though registered 10 assists – a tally only bettered by Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal's Santi Cazorla last season.

    Bayern interest flattering, admits Xhaka

    bastian-schweinsteiger-granit-xhaka-bayern-gladbach-bundesliga-22032015_1cmqk61u9blw51v423hsuw51rn.jpg

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka has admitted that he is flattered by Bayern Munich's interest, but has stressed that a transfer is very much unlikely at this stage.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions earlier this summer after impressing over the last three years with Lucien Favre's men. However, Xhaka has made it clear that his immediate future lies at Gladbach.

"Of course, Bayern Munich's interest is flattering," the midfielder was quoted as saying by Bild am Sonntag.

"But a move to Bayern was not an issue."I signed a contract until 2019 in the winter. I didn't sign a renewal to then leave six months later.

"For me, Gladbach are already a top club. But there are top, top clubs as well, clubs that could be the next step in my career."Xhaka joined Borussia from Basel in the summer of 2012 and has developed into a key figure after a difficult start to life at the Bundesliga outfit.

He netted twice in 30 league appearances in 2014-15 to help his team to third place in the table, thus securing Champions League qualification.

Icardi: Real Madrid tried to sign me

    mauro-icardi-inter_1l45jwkchmk511ja03s7e6xdbq.jpg

Inter attacker Mauro Icardi has claimed that Real Madrid attempted to lure him to La Liga earlier this summer.

The Santiago Bernabeu side are in the market for a new striker following the return of Javier Hernandez to Manchester United after his loan spell and they had allegedly earmarked Icardi as the ideal addition.

The 22-year-old netted 22 times in 36 appearances in 2014-15 to finish top of the Serie A goalscoring charts, thus earning the interest of Madrid.Nevertheless, Icardi has made it clear that he is happy at Inter and therefore rejected the chance to move to the Spanish capital in favour of a new deal with the Nerazzurri.

"Real Madrid tried to sign me," Icardi was quoted as saying by AS."But I am happy to have signed a new deal with Inter."We want to return to the Champions League next season."

Icardi came throug the ranks of the Barcelona youth academy, but left the Catalans for Sampdoria before breaking into the first team. He joined Inter in 2013.

Terry: Sterling a great signing for Man City

    sterling-raheem-manchester-city-international-champions-cup-210715_oonr2r3ol5so1in94dnhqvybn.jpg

Manchester City got an outstanding deal in signing Raheem Sterling from Liverpool for £49 million, Chelsea captain John Terry says.

The Blues veteran was impressed by the young England forward last season and, although Sterling and Liverpool's actions in the build up to his exit from Anfield attracted criticism, Terry feels that his forcing through a move to a Champions League team is understandable.

"Sterling was one of the best players I came up against last year. He caused a lot of problems and I think he is going to be a big player for them," the Chelsea defender told the press.

"It is a lot of money but what other English player could you go out and buy? For me, he was one of the best players in the league.

"There were things that he did not perhaps handle well but he is a young kid who wants to play right at the very top and, through no fault of his own, he has had to go and do that at Manchester City because Liverpool did not make that grade last year.

"So I understand where he has come from and wish him well because I think he's a top English player. Forget the money."

The defender then went on to discuss his team's performances last season but insists they must be ready for a touch challenge next term.

"I thought the way we played and the way we won [the Premier League], staying top all year, showed how good we were.

"I think a lot of our rivals needed to strengthen and they have done that and I think they will come back a lot hungrier, ready and believing they can catch us and even overtake us.

"Yes, I think we forced other clubs to step up and maybe clubs have had to put £5m more on players than they thought they had to because how good we were last year has forced them into that."

De Bruyne: Of course I'm thinking about Man City and PSG interest

    kevin-de-bruyne_10a0qvffw0ffp1bexwxactliua.jpg

Wolfsburg star Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that he is considering his options amid interest from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

The Belgium international was voted 2014-15 Bundesliga Player of the Season at the weekend and his fine performances last term have not gone unnoticed elsewhere.City are believed to be willing to pay €72 million to lure the 24-year-old away from his current club, while PSG are also keeping a close eye on his situation.

Wolfsburg have so far been adamant that they have no intention of selling De Bruyne, but the attacking midfielder has hinted he would be open to a summer transfer."I don't know where I will play next season," De Bruyne told Kicker.

"I just have to train well and make sure that I am fully fit. We will then see what happens."But it is always something special when big clubs show an interest in you. Of course, I am thinking about it."

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, have reiterated their desire to hold on to De Bruyne, but suggested the former Chelsea man could still leave if a big-money offer comes in.
"Kevin has a contract with us until 2019 and he knows we do not want to sell him.
"But we will take serious offers into consideration. Only an extraordinary offer could change our stance."

    Afellay in Stoke City talks

    1155972_heroa.jpg

Former Barcelona forward Ibrahim Afellay is in talks with Stoke City over a move to the Britannia Stadium, Goal understands.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving Barcelona and has been linked with a host of clubs.

Afellay's old side, PSV, have been trying to persuade him to move back to Netherlands, while Sporting have also held talks with the Netherlands international.

But Goal understands that Stoke have made progress in their pursuit of Afellay, who could even undergo a medical with the club on Monday.

The Potters want to add a winger to their ranks and have recently failed with ambitious bids to land Xherdan Shaqiri and Yevhen Konoplyanka.

Now, however, they are confident that they have succeeded in persuading Afellay to move to the Britannia Stadium.

The Dutchman, who struggled with injuries during his time with Barcelona, spent last season on loan with Greek side Olympiakos.

Juventus can cope without Pirlo, Tevez & Vidal, insists Chiellini

    giorgio-chiellini-juventus-champions-league_10okb9z1cjru41e3so2sbyvmov.jpg

Giorgio Chiellini is confident Juventus can cope without the likes of Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez and feels the Serie A champions have held onto their best players.Pirlo, Tevez and Vidal played a key role in Juventus' recent successes, but all opted to move on ahead of the 2015-16 campaign.Nevertheless, Chiellini has little doubt new arrivals such as Sami Khedira, Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala will prove to be more than adequate replacements.

"There will be a few more new arrivals. Either way, the strongest players remain at Juventus. With all due respect toward the others," Chiellini told Corriere dello Sport."The players who left gave Juventus a lot, but their replacements will do well.

Mandzukic and Khedira are born leaders and have already shown this week that they will become important."The younger players will also help the older ones. Their presence will increase the intensity and the level of the team.

"The core of this Juventus is still there. And players like Khedira and Mandzukic can perform right away."This will not be a start from zero for Juventus. The structure is still there. Plus we have great youngsters like Dybala."

Apart from Khedira, Mandzukic and Dybala, Juventus have also brought in Simone Zaza from Sassuolo, Guido Vadala from Boca Juniors and Neto from Fiorentina, while Daniele Rugani has returned from his loan spell with Empoli.

Bayern have not put Gotze in shopping window, says Rummenigge

    mario-gotze-bayern_h0bta5fm4a6g1xuqrjqfmkv2w.jpg

Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has insisted that the Bundesliga champions are not trying to sell Mario Gotze this summer, following reports linking him to Juventus.

The Germany international has been struggling to live up to the high expectations at Bayern since joining them from Borussia Dortmund in 2013 and it has been suggested a summer exit could be on the cards.

Nevertheless, Bayern have now made it clear that the 23-year-old is going nowhere as they remain confident he will eventually seize his chance at the Allianz Arena."We have not put any players in the shopping window. That also goes for Mario Gotze," Rummenigge told Kicker.

"Every player deserves a second chance. Mario will get another chance as well and he has our full support."Gotze has a contract with Bayern until June 2017.

He has scored 30 goals in 93 appearances for the Bavarians, winning two Bundesliga titles, one DFB Pokal, the Club World Cup and the European Supercup during his time with FCB.

Neymar wants to play Olympics and Copa America 2016

    neymar-brazil-copa-america_19qvzgg9gb2mk19fkplwf82sw3.jpg

Brazil captain Neymar has warned Barcelona that next year he wants to represent his country in both the Rio Olympics and the centenary edition of the Copa America.

Olympic gold is the one major accolade to have eluded the five-time world champions, with the Selecao having been forced to settle for silver on three separate occasions, most recently in 2012 when Neymar was part of the team that fell to a shock 2-1 defeat in the final of the London Games. The Copa America, meanwhile, will next year celebrate its centenary in the United States, with the competition set to include six invitees from the Concacaf region.

Neymar has a busy schedule ahead of him, with Barca bidding for the sextet, but he says he has no intention of reducing his international commitments."I really want to play in the Olympics and the Copa America too. I'm hungry. I am stating it now that I want to play in both," Neymar said.

The 23-year-old was sent off in Brazil’s second group game in this year’s Copa America before the Selecao were eliminated on penalties by Paraguay in the quarter-finals.

Neymar was handed a four-game suspension that rules him out of Brazil’s first two World Cup qualifiers, against Chile and Venezuela, before returning for October’s clash with Argentina, but the striker is confident Dunga’s charges can make a good start without him."We know how difficult it will be, both home and away,” he stated.

“In Brazil we are going to be under pressure, which is normal. But even away from home the fans are going to have high expectations.”The former Santos attacker went on to dismiss claims that Dunga’s side were overly dependent on him, adding that he is excited by the next generation of talent ready to break into the senior side.

"The ones who say Brazil is just me, don't understand football. I am lucky to have great team-mates who help me to shine for the national team,” he added."I think that Brazil has a fantastic young generation and, if we work hard, we can achieve some a great future."

:no:Van Gaal: Romero signing prepares Man Utd for De Gea exit

    sergioromero-cropped_290vb8em7zqc1x1jome28e1c8.jpg

Louis van Gaal has indicated that Manchester United have signed Sergio Romero to prepare for the possible departure of David de Gea this summer.Romero completed his move to Old Trafford on Monday, agreeing to a three-year deal, with the option of a fourth.

De Gea is heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the wake of Iker Casillas' departure from the Santiago Bernabeu, having blossomed into one of the Premier League's top shot-stoppers.

And with Victor Valdes set to leave the club over his apparent refusal to play in Under-21 matches last term, Van Gaal concedes Romero could be thrown in at the deep end if De Gea does leaves United. "I know Romero very well and I think in our situation, if De Gea is going or not going, it is always a threat and we have to take care, make sure that we are prepared," Van Gaal told MUTV.

"That is why I think it is very good that Sergio Romero is now a Manchester United player."Van Gaal has previously worked with Romero at AZ, where the pair won the Eredivisie in 2009.

"He was also a former player of mine," Van Gaal added. "I was coach of AZ in Netherlands, I picked him up when he was 19 and he was a great talent. "We became champions with him, with a minor club, and in the Netherlands it was a fantastic result of course."

Ter Stegen: I want to be Barcelona's No.1

    marc-andre-ter-stegen_cz9ki2p23bx51k0ddhz5fryep.jpg

Barcelona shot stopper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has made it clear that he no longer wants to settle for a position on the bench behind first-choice goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

The Germany international joined the Catalans from Borussia Monchengladbach ahead of the 2014-15 campaign, but did not feature in La Liga once as head coach Luis Enrique preferred the Chilean international ahead of him.Ter Stegen did defend the Barcelona goal in the Champions League and Copa del Rey, but he is no longer satisfied to only feature in cup competitions.

"I returned before my holidays were up to prepare well for the new season. I want to play every game," the 23-year-old told Sport."I did not play every time last season, so we will have to wait and see how things go this year.

"It's not about exchanging roles with Bravo. Claudio was in great form last season.
"We will see what happens this season."Ter Stegen kept 10 clean sheets in 21 appearances to guide the Catalans to Champions League and Copa del Rey glory last term.
