    Walcott suffers injury setback

    330925_heroa.jpg

Theo Walcott is set to miss Arsenal's next three fixtures after a setback in his recovery from abdominal surgery. The winger recently underwent a minor operation that ruled him out of England's final two World Cup qualifiers, but manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that the problem flared up again in training.

"He had a setback. He had to stop, to jog again, I don't think we will see him against Dortmund, nor Crystal Palace nor Chelsea," he said.
"He is at least two weeks away now."

Arsenal have continued their blistering start to the season in Walcott's absence, while Tottenham's Andros Townsend impressed on the right flank as England booked their place at next summer's World Cup.

Vidal doubtful for Real Madrid clash

    329694_heroa.jpg

Juventus coach Antonio Conte has received some worrying news from the treatment table ahead of the Champions League match away against Real Madrid as he will possibly have to make do without the services of Arturo Vidal due to injury.

The Chile international sustained a thigh injury in Juventus' 4-2 Serie A loss against Fiorentina on Sunday and the Italian champions fear that the combative midfielder might not recover in time for Wednesday's encounter at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vidal started the match against Fiorentina from the bench for disciplinary reasons after returning late from international duty with Chile, but was brought on for Claudio Marchisio late in the second half.

Although the midfielder lasted until the final whistle, he complained about pain in his thigh afterwards and he could consequently miss the game versus Madrid.

Juventus desperately need a good result against Real Madrid after dropping points against Copenhagen and Galatasaray in their opening two Group B games.

:(Manchester United too slow in midfield - Neville

    330200_heroa.jpg

Manchester United are struggling because their midfield play is too slow, according to former Red Devils star and current England coach Gary Neville.

David Moyes has presided over United's worst ever start to a Premier League season, having won just three of his first eight matches and lost to Liverpool, Manchester City and West Brom.

And Neville believes the problems stem from his former club being unable to replicate the fast, decisive midfield play which made them so formidable under Sir Alex Ferguson.

“There is still a sense that David Moyes is finding out about his players and his own way in the job,” Neville told reporters. “The key for me is that the speed of their game through the midfield is not quick enough.

“United have always been about those relentless waves of attacks, sustained for good periods without counter which would eventually overwhelm the opposition. Because this isn’t happening opponents have time to rest and recover between attacks.

“And it means teams are perhaps playing a few more attacking players against United and going into games with a bit more confidence than usual. Southampton certainly showed that in the first 20 minutes of the game.

“I have no doubt that David Moyes will be an excellent United manager. But for now he is having to endure some painful results.”

United saw high-profile bids for midfield targets Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas fail last summer, though Marouane Fellaini was eventually secured from Everton on deadline day.

'Ozil crucial to Arsenal' - Aubameyang

    330877_heroa.jpg

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has pinpointed Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud as major threats when Borussia Dortmund face Arsenal on Tuesday. The Schwarzgelben have picked up three points from two games in the Champions League this season, following May's final defeat to Bayern Munich with a 2-1 loss to Napoli in September before bouncing back with a 3-0 win over Olympique de Marseille.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have a 100 per cent record in the European competition, including two wins over Fenerbahce in the play-off to reach the group stage and Aubameyang is under no illusions that the Gunners' squad is packed with quality.

"Ozil is in great form and is crucial to Arsenal's game but they're a quality side anyway," Aubameyang told Bundesliga.com."Olivier Giroud, for example, is also a very good player, I know him well from my time in France, he's a dangerous striker."Playing Arsenal won't be easy at all and we'll have to do better than we did on Saturday."

Jurgen Klopp's men peppered Hannover's goal with 18 shots on Saturday but won just 1-0, thanks to an early Marco Reus penalty, with the Gabon international suggesting that the international break took affected BVB's sharpness."We'll have further recovered by then and we'll be in better form," Aubameyang added. "Having a big game in the Champions League should give us extra motivation.

"I had the impression some of us were already tired going into the game and it got worse as the match proceeded.

"We didn't have our usual rhythm and didn't play the high tempo football we normally do. But a second goal would've killed the game."

Following the continental tussle with Arsenal, Dortmund face arch-rivals Schalke this coming weekend.

Mourinho charged by FA for behaviour during Cardiff City clash

    323332_heroa.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been charged by the Football Association for improper conduct during the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday.

The Portuguese coach was sent to the stands after berating referee Anthony Taylor for warning Branislav Ivanovic over time-wasting.

Mourinho was forced to watch the remaining 20 minutes from the East Stand amongst Chelsea fans but may now face a touchline ban following the FA's statement.

It read: "Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has been charged with improper conduct in relation to his behaviour during his side's game against Cardiff City on Saturday 19 October 2013.

"Mourinho has until 24 October at 6pm to respond to the charge."

Assistant manager Steve Holland fielded questions in the post-match press conference and attempted to explain Mourinho's actions.

Speaking to reporters Holland said: "Jose is very frustrated and it stems from the time-wasting from the opposition from basically the first two or three minutes of the game. We mentioned it to the fourth official in a professional way on countless occasions.

"The referee didn't appear to do anything about it but when we had a throw-in, Ivanovic had the ball in his hands for two seconds, and the referee was about getting the ball back into play and pointing at his watch.

"So it was a case of huge frustration with that. And to be sent off for that was very harsh."

Wenger: Man Utd not out of title race yet

    307286_heroa.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is refusing to rule Manchester United out of the title race despite the champions falling eight points behind the Gunners.

The north Londoners extended their lead over David Moyes’ side on Saturday after beating Norwich 4-1 while a late goal at Old Trafford saw United drop more points as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Southampton.

While Wenger’s side lead the Premier League table by two points from Liverpool, United sit in eighth place having lost three times already.

However, the Frenchman insists the champions cannot be discounted in the race for the title, warning his side how quickly a lead can slip.

"It's too early," he told the club’s official website. "Eight points starts to be a little gap but they [United] are not out of the title race. And we are only two points in front of all the others.

"If you have a choice nobody wants to be eight points behind. If you have the choice, you want to be in the race at the top.

“But you cannot rule Man United out today. They have big players, big experience and they are a big club. It’s three games basically [to make up the gap] - that is very quick in our league."

Record signing Mesut Ozil has been a key feature of Arsenal’s superb start to the season and Wenger did not rule out adding to his squad again in January.

“We have a squad that, number and quality-wise, is very, very good," he added. "We are not desperate now [to sign anyone].

"I think it’s important, when you know who is out injured now, that they will come back in November and the beginning of December.

“Then you have a really massive squad. [But] if there is a good opportunity, why not?"
