Aspas urges Moreno to reject Liverpool

    440345_heroa.jpg

Liverpool outcast Iago Aspas has urged Alberto Moreno to reject any offer from the Anfield outfit in favour of staying with Sevilla.

The forward, who was signed by Brendan Rodgers last summer, has been sent on loan to the Liga side after failing to score in 14 league outings during the 2013-14 season.

Moreno has been a target for Liverpool during the summer, with Sevilla demanding close to €23 million for their left-back, and Aspas has insisted the player would be wise to stay in Spain rather than move to England.

"Albert Moreno would never feel like he does in Sevilla at Liverpool," he told ABC de Sevilla.

"I've been here for three or four days. Now that I belong to Sevilla, I prefer he stays here."

Liverpool have already seen a bid of €20m plus attacking midfielder Suso rejected for Moreno as Rodgers looks to further add to his squad following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona for €88m.

Emre Can, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi have already arrived for a combined fee of around €113m, while Liverpool claim a move for Loic Remy failed due to medical reasons.

'Lewandowski is the past - I am the future' - Immobile

    438279_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile insists Robert Lewandowski is now firmly in the club's past and is confident of firing them to success in future.

Insgine, last season's top scorer in Serie A, completed his move to Dortmund from Torino in June as a replacement for Lewandowski, who has joined Bayern Munich.

The 24-year-old has urged the club's supporters to forget about the Poland international, who scored 103 goals in four seasons at Signal Iduna Park, and back him to fill the void in attack.

"Lewandowski is past, I am the future," said Immobile at a press conference.

"Lewandowski is a great player. I'll try to do my best. Then we will see if I can score more or less goals than him.

"I am very happy to have arrived at a big club. So far all expectations have been fulfilled here. [Head coach Jurgen] Klopp takes me often to the side, tells me that I should take it easy. I have a good feeling with the coach."

The Italian, who was part of his country's squad for the World Cup, also revealed that his team-mates have been helping him to learn German since his return from Brazil and that his first phrases were 'how are you?' and 'top scorer'.

Immobile added: "I would like to thank Sebastian Kehl and my interpreter. From them I got two notes with the most important coaching words. I must learn those for tomorrow."

Dortmund continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Chievo on Friday.

Dzeko agrees new Manchester City contract

    440146_heroa.jpg

Edin Dzeko has agreed a new four-year Manchester City contract.

It emerged in April that the Premier League champions planned to open negotiations after the striker impressed Manuel Pellegrini following injuries to Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo.

Goal understands Dzeko has not been offered an improvement on his current €189,000-a-week terms but has agreed to the deal, which now runs until 2018, with an announcement expected before the new season starts.

Dzeko had initially appeared to be on his way out of the club while Roberto Mancini was in charge after starting just 16 Premier League games during the 2012-13 campaign.

The likes of Inter had made him their No.1 transfer target while Borussia Dortmund were assessing his availability before signing Ciro Immobile in June.

However, Dzeko thrived with increased responsibility under Pellegrini, starting 23 leagues games - seven more than the 16 afforded to him by Roberto Mancini the previous term - and notching 26 goals in all competitions.

"I can only say that I am very happy at City and at the moment we are talking about the new contract," Dzeko said earlier this week. "We will see what happens but the main thing is that I'm happy at City.

"We talked about that at the beginning of last season - it's very important you feel the confidence that a manager has in you and last season was proof of everything I said."

Dzeko will become the third first-team player to be offered new terms during the summer, with Alexsandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri penning extensions in June and July respectively.

    West Ham open Eto'o talks

    430783_heroa.jpg

West Ham have opened talks over signing former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto'o, Goal understands.

The 33-year-old, who featured for Cameroon at the World Cup, is without a club following his release from Stamford Bridge at the end of last season but could prolong his Premier League stay with the Hammers.

Eto'o's agent Claudio Vigarelli met with Sam Allardyce in London on Wednesday in an attempt to negotiate a contract for the ex-Barcelona forward, who has had offers from the Middle East, the USA and Turkey.

The Cameroonian's high wage demands as well as the length of the contract on offer could prove a sticking point, although Goal understands talks are ongoing in the hope that a deal can be reached.

Eto'o is keen to stay in England after an up-and-down campaign with Jose Mourinho's side following his move from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala back in August 2013.

The forward clashed with the Portuguese during his short spell at Stamford Bridge, with Eto'o having labelled Mourinho a "puppet" back in May after the Chelsea boss was caught on camera mocking the player's age.

With Mauro Zarate and Enner Valencia having already arrived this summer, West Ham are hoping to conclude a short-term agreement with Eto'o as they look to cope without Andy Carroll, who is likely to miss at least the first three months of the season through injury.

Di Maria would be welcome at PSG, says Cavani

    440318_heroa.jpg

Paris Saint Germain striker Edinson Cavani has declared that Angel Di Maria would be a welcome addition to Laurent Blanc's squad.

Speculation surrounding Di Maria's future at Real Madrid has steadily increased after the July additions of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez for a combined fee of close to €105 million.

Madrid have considered cashing in on the Argentina international - valued at €60m - in order to recoup funds for further transfer activity this summer, with Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on their radar.

Manchester United have also long been linked with a move for Di Maria, although PSG are believed to be in a stronger position over a deal, and Cavani admits he would relish the chance to link up with the player at Parc des Princes.

"We are always looking to add new elements to the team," said Cavani to L'Equipe.

"[Di Maria] has a lot of quality, is a fantastic player and he would be welcome in Paris."

The 27-year-old, whose contract runs until 2018, also went on to confirm that he was not looking for a move away from Paris, but hinted that it was ultimately down to the club.

Cavani is another player to have been linked with United in recent months, with PSG under pressure to limit their financial losses this summer due to Financial Fair Play sanctions and having already spent €50m on David Luiz.

    Gerrard open to move abroad

    440165_heroa.jpg

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could follow Frank Lampard abroad, after hinting he would be open to the idea of leaving England.
Lampard called time on his illustrious Chelsea career to join MLS expansion franchise New York City on a two-year deal ahead of their inaugural season in 2015.

Gerrard, who retired from England duty at the end of the World Cup, has been at Liverpool since emerging from the youth team in 1998 - amassing 475 Premier League appearances and 111 goals.

The 34-year-old midfielder - in the United States for Liverpool's pre-season tour - has a year to run on his contract and admitted playing in a league such as the MLS could be on the cards.

"One day that might happen to me, I don't know," Gerrard told reporters.

"I've never really discussed it with anyone or thought about it. Maybe one day I would like the chance to go away from Liverpool for a short time and try something different.

"I think Frank has made a great decision. At his age, 36, he's had a wonderful career and I don't think he has anything to prove in England in any more.

"He's broken records with Chelsea and won everything with them. I think it's a perfect move for him. But I haven't given it much thought. That carrot hasn't been dangled yet."

Gerrard only has a year left on his Anfield contract to run, but has made no secret of his desire to extend his time at Liverpool, and is hoping a new contract could be discussed in the very near future.

"Brendan has mentioned it a couple of times in the media but no talks have happened," said the 34-year-old to the Daily Telegraph.

"I'm sure we will talk in the future, but we will have to wait and see. I hope that I am here for more than one year, of course I do. But it is all about this season for me."

Official: West Ham snap up Arsenal defender Jenkinson

    439324_heroa.jpg

West Ham have signed Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson on a season-long loan, the club have announced.

The Englishman was also the subject of a bid from Hull City but opted to remain in London having fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates following the signings of Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers.

Upon completing his move, Jenkinson claimed West Ham was "always the place I wanted to go to."

He added: "I'm clearly seen as a big part of things here and hopefully I can prove my worth here because it is an important year for me.

"It's one of them where I wanted to do the right professional thing and consider all the options, but in the back of my mind it was always West Ham and I'm just so glad it's all worked out how I wanted it to in the end.

"It will be brilliant to play here. I've got a lot of friends who are West Ham fans and I know how good the supporters are here.

"I've played here a couple of times so I know exactly what it is all about, so it's going to be fantastic to be a part of that, to be honest.

"You get a great atmosphere here and the fans are great, so I just can't wait to get a West Ham shirt on and get on the pitch and play. This is an exciting time for me, it really is."

Jenkinson made 14 Premier League appearances last season, scoring once and providing two assists.

Romulo will be a Juventus player - Marotta

    439653_heroa.jpg

Verona star Romulo will be a Juventus player by the close of business on Friday, according to Giuseppe Marotta.

The Gialloblu only acquired outright ownership of the versatile midfielder earlier this month but have now agreed to sell the 27-year-old to the Serie A champions.

"Romulo? Between today and tomorrow will be a Juventus player," Bianconeri director general Marotta told reporters on Thursday.

"His agent will be here tomorrow in Turin to close the deal."

Indeed, the Italy international's representative, Alex Firminio, is not expecting any last-minute hitches.

"It is virtually a done deal with Juventus," Romulo's agent told Calcio News. "We are delighted and want to thank everyone at Verona for believing in him.

"[On Friday] I will arrive in Italy and we will sign [the contract]. I’ve spoken to Romulo and he is really happy to have been given an opportunity like this at Juve."

Pardew confirms Newcastle closing in on Ferreyra

    440659_heroa.jpg

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has confirmed the club are in talks to sign Facundo Ferreyra on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The striker is set to head to the north East after Newcastle agreed a €2 million [£1.6m] loan fee with the option of making the deal permanent for a further €8m [£6.4m].

The 23-year-old is one of a host of players who have grown increasingly concerned at the ongoing violent unrest in Ukraine, and Newcastle are understood to be confident of sealing the loan in the coming days.

"It's something that is not done, but we're working to see if that can happen," Pardew told BBC Newcastle.

"Facundo is a good presence on the pitch, a big guy at six foot two inches, a player who has gone to the Ukraine and has been okay.

"If we manage to secure him, he would be a player who we'd expect to do a lot better here."

As exclusively revealed last week, Newcastle are also montoring a return for former loanee Loic Remy but Pardew has now hinted that the player is not keen on the switch and possibly abandoning the pursuit.

"We've not really had much contact with Loic and I don't see that evolving if I'm honest," he said. "Whatever happened at Liverpool is irrelevant really, because he's had plenty of chances to come to us.

"We've made it clear we'd want to have him but it hasn't really happened and therefore you sometimes have to say where is the line drawn? Maybe that one has gone away."

Wenger tips Wilshere to have 'great season' with Arsenal

    439198_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger is tipping Jack Wilshere to enjoy a "great season" as Arsenal step up their pre-season preparations.

Wenger's side face Benfica and Monaco as part of the Emirates Cup at the weekend as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace on August 16.

Wilshere suffered an injury-interrupted campaign last season before enduring a disappointing World Cup with England and was pictured smoking during the summer.

The 22-year-old has since apologised for the incident on holiday, insisting it was a mistake, and Wenger insists the England international is in top shape.

"It's a big season for Jack but he's in the best shape he's been for three years," he told reporters.

"He has prepared and has got over his ankle problems, I think he will have a great season but it's a very important season for him."

Before the Premier League kicks off Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield and Wenger feels the Emirates Cup will be important for his side’s fitness levels ahead of the Wembley clash.

"It's a real test ahead of the Charity Shield and the Premier League, as well as Champions League qualifier," he added.

"I'm more interested in the fitness because we have a stable team and know the football we play.

"We have a short time available but I'm quite happy with where we are. I will tell you more on Monday."

Wenger hits back at Gerrard: No one is too good for Arsenal

    436743_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger has hit back at Steven Gerrard's claims that Luis Suarez was "too good for Arsenal".

The Gunners bid twice for the striker last summer in the belief that an offer of over €50 million would trigger a release clause, a contractual agreement that Liverpool denied at the time but since admitted did exist.

Gerrard admitted he would have been "disappointed" to see the Uruguayan join the Gunners and feels the striker was wrongly advised amid the interest from the north London side.

Wenger acknowledges that Gerrard was just keen for Suarez, who has since joined Barcelona in a €88m deal, to stay at Anfield but dismissed the initial remarks as unnecessary.

"You're never too good for Arsenal and Steven Gerrard knows that," he told reporters.

"But I can understand completely that he asked him to stay because he wanted [Suarez] to play with him and have a chance to win the Premier League. But it didn't happen, and anyway, Suarez left."

    Koeman confirms Osvaldo-Taider swap interest

    436852_heroa.jpg

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that record signing Pablo Daniel Osvaldo could join Inter in a swap deal with Saphir Taider.

Goal reported on Wednesday that the two players are set to switch clubs, with the Serie A side hopeful of agreeing personal terms with the striker soon.

Taider is a box-to-box central midfielder who went to the World Cup finals with Algeria and played two games in Brazil, while Koeman is also willing to take 34-year-old defender Hugo Campagnaro as part of any deal.

"We are looking for the best for Osvaldo and the best for the club," Koeman told BBC Radio Solent.

"Taider brings quality and we need that. We need competition in the squad as well and that will be good."

The Dutchman stated that Southampton are closing in on three new signings after losing Rickie Lambert, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Calum Chambers.

"We hope to do that this weekend and then we have two weeks still to prepare for the Liverpool game," said the former Netherlands defender.

    Tottenham weigh up Musacchio bid

    440272_heroa.jpg

Tottenham are considering an offer for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino has made bolstering his defence a priority this summer, and has already brought in 20-year-old centre-back Eric Dier in a €6 million deal.

Now the Argentine boss – who knows La Liga well having spent eight years in Spain as player and manager of Espanyol – is eyeing a move for compatriot Musacchio, who is valued at around €19 million by his club.

The 23-year-old enjoyed an excellent campaign with El Submarino Amarillo last term and was voted the club’s Player of the Season, though surprisingly missed out on a place in Alejandro Sabella’s World Cup squad.

But, any deal could be complicated by ownership issues, with former club River Plate still holding a percentage of the defender’s rights.

Musacchio has impressed Tottenham scouts and is seen as an ideal foil for Jan Vertonghen, with the club keen to sit down with the Belgian to discuss a new contract.

Spurs will need to offload some of their current batch of defenders to make way for Musacchio, though, and Michael Dawson has already been told he can leave the club this summer.

Hull City and QPR have both targeted the veteran centre-back, who has failed to convince Pochettino he is suited to the Argentine’s style of play.

Van der Vaart not ruling out QPR move

    439082_heroa.jpg

Rafael van der Vaart has refused to rule out being reunited with Harry Redknapp but says he hasn't had any contact with the QPR manager.

The Hamburg midfielder has been linked with a move to Loftus Road as the Rs prepare for a return to the Premier League following their promotion last season.

Van der Vaart, who enjoyed a successful spell under Redknapp at Tottenham, denied having any discussions with his former boss but hinted he could be tempted to move if the opportunity arises.

"Harry Redknapp has not been in touch with me. He has not phoned me," he told Bild.

"In football you never know, but so far we have not been in touch.

"Harry Redknapp and I enjoyed a really great relationship back at Tottenham. He is a top-quality manager.

"I was in great form back then. I scored 12 (Premier League) goals in one season and I netted 13 in the other season."
