:angry::(Moyes relaxed over Manchester United's lack of signings: There's no pressure to buy

    304500_heroa.jpg

Manchester United manager David Moyes insists there is no pressure on him to add to his squad before the end of the transfer window.

So far this summer, the Premier League champions have signed 20-year-old full-back Guillermo Varela from Atletico Penarol and have fended off two bids from Chelsea for Wayne Rooney.

Moyes has also seen former target Thiago Alcantara move to Bayern Munich, while Goal exclusively revealed on Thursday that United have launched a £35 million double bid for Everton duo Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

"There is a need to do it but there's no pressure to do it. We'll bring in one or two if we can," Moyes told reporters.

"It's something I'd like to do and we've been talking about it probably since I took the job on 1 July. But we won't do it because people like you tell us we should be signing players."

Moyes concedes United may not sign any more players this summer and is adamant that he will not panic buy.

"I have an idea of where I need to strengthen and, if the right players are available, then great. If not, the first thing we'll do is encourage our own young players in the squad to do as well as they did last year.

"There is a possibility [we won't sign anybody] but the plan is we bring in one or two if we can. I think there's value [out there] but we have only targeted certain players and don't have a big, big list. There are only certain quality players we want to bring to the club."

Arsenal open Di Maria talks with Real Madrid

    304505_heroa.jpg

Arsenal have opened preliminary talks with Real Madrid over a €30 million deal for Argentine playmaker Angel Di Maria.

Madrid have indicated in early discussions with the Gunners that they are willing to off-load Di Maria as they prepare to announce the world-record signing of Gareth Bale.

But Goal understands that Real chiefs have told Arsenal they will not sell French striker Karim Benzema, another target, unless they first secure a top-class replacement.

Given that there are only 10 days left in the window, it means Arsenal’s hopes of landing the France international in particular look slim – Benzema is Real’s only senior centre forward following Gonzalo Higuain’s sale to Napoli earlier this summer – but the move for Di Maria is believed to be more advanced.

Wenger's audacious approach for the attacking pair comes in a week in which Arsenal have made a series of shock moves for players who were not on their target list earlier in the window.

As reported by Goal, the Londoners made bids for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye and Schalke right-back Atsuto Uchida on Monday, and also made an enquiry for Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Wenger also has his eye on Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and is weighing up a short-term contract offer for former Gunner Mathieu Flamini, who is training at London Colney after being released by AC Milan.

It is the search for marquee attacking talent that is Wenger's chief priority as he attempts to make use of the €116.5m transfer kitty at his disposal and turn Arsenal into genuine title contenders.

The Frenchman has turned his attention to Spain after becoming aware of Bale's impending move to Real, a deal that is expected to be completed for around €100m by the end of the week.

The Gunners have also still not given up hope of landing Luis Suarez, while they are also continuing to monitor the situation of Wayne Rooney, who is being openly pursued by Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admitted on Thursday that a bid this late in the window for Suarez "would be very difficult [to accept]", adding: "There might have been a point a few months ago where there was time to do it but, with 11 days to go, it would be difficult to replace him."

Chelsea agree £30 million Willian deal

    soc_g_willian_b1_576.jpg

Willian has opted to join Chelsea rather than Tottenham, a source has told ESPN, with the Blues agreeing a £30 million deal with Anzhi Makhachkala to sign the forward subject to a work permit hearing.Chelsea made their move for the 25-year-old late on Thursday, just when it emerged that he was undergoing a medical with Spurs.

Mourinho hinted during his press-conference on Friday that he already knew of the Brazilian's decision, while adding that he was an “extra target” alongside Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney, who he will continue to pursue. The Portuguese also insisted that Juan Mata is not for sale. But despite attempting to remain coy, Mourinho seemed to revel in discussing the Willian situation as he joked about the dangers of doing a medical before any contract is finalised.

When specifically asked about the possibility of Willian joining Chelsea ahead of Spurs, Mourinho paused and then said: “That’s a good question because I think he already made his decision.”The Portuguese attempted to evade questions about whether that decision was to move to Chelsea, but then conceded that he “couldn’t hide” what he knew.

“I don’t like to speak before time, because football can be crazy and this is the problem when we speak a lot about names and transfers,” he said. “Sometimes it looks like [a situation is one way], but it isn’t. But I know what the player wants, so we cannot hide.

“That’s the danger of medicals before contracts but, at the same time, sometimes you can have a problem before signing a player so you have to do the medical before. The best thing you can do is do the medical in secret. The player is fine, you can sign him. The player is not fine, you don’t destroy his career by saying the player has problems. So you do it in secret and after that sign the contract with the club and the player.“Sometimes you don’t make it. Sometimes you guys have great sources, find everything, but that’s the risk.”When quizzed on whether he expected the deal to be completed, Mourinho again joked: “We have to do a medical!”

The Blues boss also said that he hopes to bring in Willian alongside a striker like Rooney.“If you remember the press conference [ahead of the Aston Villa match]. I couldn’t say much. I have to answer your question and try to be honest, but at the same time try to hide a few things,” he said. “Yeah, it’s true.

But if you remember I told you that I’m happy with my squad but every one of us managers, we say we are happy but we are always unhappy. We always want something more, always want something of more quality, and we never close the door to the possibility of adding more quality.“Before Villa, I told you we have plan B and we have plan C, so I was letting the door open to other possibilities.”Mourinho also indicated he is relaxed about the Rooney situation, with Chelsea understood to be readying a final bid after their visit to Manchester United on Monday.

“At this moment, I don’t care. I have a big match to play on Monday. I don’t care with new players, with the market, I don’t care,” he said.“Not disappointed [if we don’t get a forward] but we are going to try, we are going to try to the last day, as I was saying before, to add more quality to the team, to add more options, we are going to try.”

Finally, despite the pursuit of Willian increasing the speculation about Mata being mooted as a potential swap for Rooney, Mourinho stated the Spain international is not for sale.

“No speculation, no speculation. He's a player we all like, he's a player we all want to keep,” he said. “We want more quality in the team, we don’t want less quality. We want to add quality to the quality we have. So Juan is not a player we want to lose.

“The point is not to sell, the point is I want a 22-player squad. So if somebody comes... Do we need to sell? No, we don’t. Do we need to loan, probably yes because I don’t like to work with big squads. I like to work with a small group of players and I think 22 is a perfect number to answer to our needs in four different competitions, and at same time to leave the door open for some kids to come out and train with us, to be selected in a few matches.”

Monaco 0-0 Toulouse: Disappointing draw ruins Ranieri's perfect start

    308753hp2.jpg

Monaco's perfect Ligue 1 start was brought to an end on Friday as they were held to a goalless draw by Toulouse.

Claudio Ranieri's men had breezed past Bordeaux and Montpellier in their opening two encounters.

However, they laboured to a disappointing stalemate against Alain Casanova's side - who earned only their second point of the campaign - in a game played behind closed doors at Stade Louis II as punishment for crowd trouble at the end of last season.

Radamel Falcao again led the line, looking for his third goal of the season, with top scorer Emmanuel Riviere - scorer of a hat-trick against Montpellier - partnering him up front.

Riviere, who moved to Monaco from Toulouse in January - was the first to provide his former club with a scare after 11 minutes, dragging an effort wide of the far post being put through by Falcao.

The 23-year-old drew a smart save from Ali Ahamada just seven minutes later as Monaco dictated play, with Layvin Kurzawa and Lucas Ocampos both wasting chances to score shortly after.

Highly rated Belgian winger Yannick Ferreira Carrasco then spurned a golden opportunity to put Monaco in front, firing over from close range after Ahamada could only parry a low cross.

Toulouse midfielder Oscar Trejo forced Danijel Subasic into a fine stop just before the half-hour mark, but that proved to be their only real opportunity of the game.
Still, Casanova will have been pleased with his team's defensive effort, as the Garonne club stood firm until the interval.

Chances proved to be few and far between in the second half, Kurwaza's 53rd-minute effort failing to test Ahamada as Monaco struggled in their attempt to break the deadlock.

Attacking midfielder James Rodriguez was thrown into the fray by Ranieri after an hour, but it was Jeremy Toulalan who came closest to finding the winner, the former Lyon and Malaga man rattling the crossbar from 30 yards out three minutes from time.

Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Werder Bremen: Lewandowski tap-in seals Schwarzgelben win

    308717hp2.jpg

Borussia Dortmund were gifted a 1-0 win by a Robert Lewandowski tap-in against a stubborn Werder Bremen on Friday.

Bremen had kept clean sheets in their opening two Bundesliga games and they looked capable of making that three until the Polish striker broke the deadlock in the second half at Signal Iduna Park.

Jakub Blaszczykowski crashed an effort against the crossbar and Marco Reus fired just wide in a frustrating first-half for the home side.

Jurgen Klopp opted to rest Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Sven Bender, with Marco Reus and Sebastian Kehl taking their respective spots in the starting line-up.

Luca Caldirola passed a fitness test in order to start for Bremen, while Marko Arnautovic was favoured ahead of Nils Petersen in the central striking role.

In a lacklustre opening, it was Dortmund who created the better openings.

Nuri Sahin volleyed wide from Marcel Schmelzer’s cross, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan found himself on goal after a neat one-two with Lewandowski, but could only lift his effort over.

Reus was continually Dortmund’s biggest threat and went close after collecting Kehl’s cross-field ball, but could only fire an effort wide of Bremen goalkeeper Sebastian Mielitz’s far post.

The home side sparked into life in the dying stages of the half, Blaszczykowski was left to rue his luck with as he burst free on the right-hand side and unleashed a fierce drive that cannoned back off the crossbar.

Just three minutes before half-time, Reus had a deflected effort that almost fell kindly for Lewandowski but the ball narrowly evaded the Polish striker at the far post. Neven Subotic saw a header cleared off the line by Aaron Hunt with Sahin blazing over the rebound.

And Dortmund were nearly punished for their profligacy on the stroke of half-time as Arnautovic flashed a narrow effort across BVB goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller from the right channel.

After a dominant first-half display Dortmund finally breached the visitors' defence in the 55th minute.

Kevin Grosskreutz’s short pass was collected by Reus in the box and he fired a ball hard along the six-yard box where Lewandowski was on hand to tap home.

The goal seemed to knock the wind out of Bremen's sails, and they were nearly two behind when Schmelzer's hanging cross was palmed away by Mielitz and Sahin hit an acrobatic scissor kick that sailed over.

Aubameyang was introduced to the action in place of Blaszczykowski, and almost doubled the lead in the 75th minute as he broke free down the right-hand side but his low driven effort was saved by the feet of Mielitz.

Dortmund continued to press, and with seven minutes remaining Mats Hummels flicked on Reus' corner to Lewandowski but his effort was blocked on the line by Hunt.

Weidenfeller had to be alert late on, as he produced a smart save at the near post from substitute Franco Di Santo to preserve the points for Dortmund and keep them top ahead of Saturday's action.

Mourinho intent on forging strong Moyes relationship

    306977_heroa.jpg

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho hopes to develop a strong relationship with Manchester United manager David Moyes regardless of the Blues' interest in Wayne Rooney.

The sides meet at Old Trafford on Monday night with Mourinho looking to extend his side's run of results to three consecutive wins, following victories over Hull and Aston Villa.

The former Real Madrid manager also explained that he would not have a problem facing Rooney - who he has seen two bids rejected for - should he line up against Chelsea.

"[I will feel] the same emotions I always feel when I play against him [Rooney]," the Chelsea manager told reporters when asked what his thoughts would be if Rooney features.

"I played against him with Real Madrid and with Chelsea and with Inter. The emotions is you have to be worried with a good player. No more than that.

"For me the difference is the routine of meeting a friend, of being together and relaxed before the match. You have the guarantee that after the match, independent of the result, we are together again, enjoying our time and having a laugh.

"With David [Moyes] we don't have this kind of relationship, but we have a good relationship. I think we can start this kind of very nice relationship I had always with Sir Alex, no problem."

The 50-year-old believes Moyes – who marked his competitive debut as manager with the Community Shield trophy – will cope with the expectations before revealing that the Scot wants to make his own mark at Old Trafford.

He continued: "I think he's in a fantastic position and I think he's going to do very well. I hope he doesn't win everything and he will leave something for the others, but he's in fantastic condition.

"There are things that we cannot change. David [Moyes] has experience and he knows that he cannot change history. The history that Sir Alex [Ferguson] did is there and it is there forever.

"Is that a problem for David? I don't think so. I think David doesn't want to be compared with Sir Alex."

Wilshere: I could exit Arsenal if Wenger leaves

    308695_heroa.jpg

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has vehemently backed under-fire manager Arsene Wenger and suggested he could be willing to leave the club if the Frenchman departed.

Wenger has come under scrutiny after failing to land high-profile transfer targets such as Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Luiz Gustavo and the London side's misery was further compounded by a 3-1 defeat on the opening day of the Premier League season at home to Aston Villa.

But England international Wilshere leapt to his manager's defence and, despite signing a new five-year deal in December, said he would consider his own future at the club if Wenger were to leave.

"I want to win things with Arsenal and I want to be there in the future," Wilshere, 21, told Zapsportz.com. "But if the boss leaves then things could change.

"Arsenal are always in my heart and by signing a deal for the next five years (it) shows my commitment to them and their commitment to me, so at the moment everything is good.

"Arsene Wenger has been there for so many years and he's always delivered trophies. We've had a little dip in the last five or six years, but he's a great manager and people who question his ability are ridiculous.

"He's qualified for the Champions League for 16 years so I think he's the right man for the job."

    Anzhi: Eto'o exit probable

    305085_heroa.jpg

Anzhi Makhachkala have confirmed that Samuel Eto'o will "probably not" be at the club at the end of the summer transfer window.

Clubs such as Chelsea, Napoli and many more have been linked with the veteran striker on mega-money wages since the owner Suleiman Kerimov decided he wanted to slash costs at the Russian team.

Igor Denisov, Yuri Zhirkov and Aleksandr Kokorin joined Dinamo Moscow earlier in August, while Willian looks set to move to Stamford Bridge having shunted interest from Tottenham.

Anzhi's exodus looks set to continue following assistant coach Haji Hajiyev's statement that the Cameroonian forward, 32, is unlikely to be around at the end of the summer transfer window.

When asked if Eto'o would remain at Anzhi, Hajiyev is quoted by the club's official website as responding: "Probably not".

Meanwhile, Christopher Samba looks set to stay despite exit rumours, having only rejoined the club - he left in January - in the summer, as does Lacina Traore.

"Lacina Traore and Chris Samba are staying for now," Hajiyev added. "But everything can change."

    Klopp not fearing Dortmund profligacy

    291937_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has insisted that he is not worrying about his side's profligacy in front of goal in the new Bundesliga season.

A second-half tap-in from Robert Lewandowski gave them a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen on Friday and continued their winning start to the season, but his goal was flanked by gilt-edged, missed opportunities throughout the match.

Klopp refused to dwell on the negatives following die Schwarzgelben's victory, though he admitted that there is plenty of room for improvement this season, and praised goalscorer Lewandowski's performance in front of the home crowd.

"I thought we started well we played impressively, but we were not able to get through their defence," the trainer told Dortmund's official website. "We wanted to play with pace, but that degenerated quickly into just playing hectic.

"That was not the plan and after 27or 28 minutes I was thinking, 'what's going on now?' since we had shifted down a gear and lost our doggedness.

"But we performed in the second half, the foot was no longer removed from the gas, the leadership was important and, of course, it did not surprise me that Lewy scored the goal. He worked like a bull.

"Finally, we had some defensive work, but I did not fear. I do not think that, after nine points from three games, having so much profligacy is the best thing.

"But missed opportunities are part of our game that we need to improve on and in all other areas we still have room for improvement. But what can I complain about? We brutally handled a venomous opponent for at least 80 minutes."

Dortmund captain Sebastian Kehl has insisted that the team's domination earned the three points at Signal Iduna Park and denied that Bremen's defensive mentally frustrated the side.

"I've seen [Werder Bremen's tactics] several times before," he is quoted as saying by Ruhr Nachrichten. "Bremen were cleverly set-up, but we had the chances. Thus, it was on us [to score].

"It is true that we can win the game and make everything calmer if we seize the opportunities. But, in the end, the win was well deserved.

"We know the defensive theme of opponents now. We have a certain dominance in our game, which means that often opponents are purely focused on defending. But we're not complaining."
