Ancelotti: Madrid searching for Bale 'solution'

    298264_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that club officials are hoping to find a "solution" to their problematic pursuit of Tottenham star Gareth Bale.

The 24-year-old winger has been heavily linked with a summer switch to the Santiago Bernabeu, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy finally caving on Wednesday and agreeing to negotiate over a €115 million deal.

"It's difficult to talk about Bale because he doesn't play for Real Madrid," Ancelotti told reporters in USA on Wednesday. "We'll see what happens; I'm happy with the current squad.

"I have not spoken to Bale. Usually I do not speak to players from other teams.

"The club are looking for a solution in the case of Bale, though there are no new developments with regards to this."

Ancelotti also revealed that Madrid are enjoying a setback-free pre-season to date and is pleased with the increasing fitness in a number of his players, including Xabi Alonso and Kaka.

"We've only had a small problem with [Asier] Illarramendi but today he has begun to run," he added. "The recoveries of Xabi and [Raphael] Varane are going well.

"Kaka is working hard, he is going to improve but we need time because he has to improve his strength and his fitness."

Madrid are in the US to take part in the Guinness Cup, which kicks off for the Blancos with a clash against LA Galaxy at 04:30CET on Friday.

Manchester United to fight plans allowing supporters to buy Old Trafford

Manchester United have asked Trafford Council to reconsider its decision to list its Old Trafford stadium as an asset of community value.

Manchester United Supporters' Trust (Must) submitted a proposal which would allow the local community to buy the historic stadium should it ever be put up for sale.

That proposal was accepted on Wednesday evening, but the Premier League champions have issued a statement highlighting their intention to fight the decision.

"The club has received the decision by Trafford Council. Old Trafford is, of course, a special place; it is the heart and soul of the club. The club obviously sees it the same way, which is why over the last eight years it has demonstrated its commitment to Old Trafford by spending around €100 million upgrading its facilities and it will continue that investment in the future," the statement read.

"We do have concerns that the legislation is not being applied correctly which could set a precedent throughout the country. Therefore, we have asked the council to follow the statutory review process to ensure the legislation is being applied as intended and we shall continue to keep open communication with the Council."

Must, who admitted that United's owners, the Glazer family, currently have no plans to sell the club or stadium, called on supporters to lobby their local councillor to put forward their proposal under the Localism Act.

Must CEO Duncan Drasdo revealed on his Twitter account that the group will be releasing a statement on their successful application later on Wednesday. The community rights website explains that local groups "can use the Community Right to Bid to ‘pause’ the sale of buildings or land they care about such as a local pub, shop, library or football ground. It gives the community time to develop a bid to buy it."

Liverpool's Spirit Of Shankly fan group have submitted a similar proposal regarding Anfield to Liverpool City Council.

Real Madrid want Bale in case Ronaldo leaves, claims Calderon

    278653_heroa.jpg

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes the club are trying to sign Gareth Bale because they fear losing Cristiano Ronaldo.Tottenham and Madrid have opened negotiations over a €114 million move for Bale, with the winger keen to move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Calderon, who was president for three years between 2006 and 2009, believes the transfer will be completed this summer, not least because current Blancos supremo Florentino Perez is concerned Ronaldo will not renew his contract.

"I know that [Ronaldo] is not happy at all with the attitude and behaviour of the president," he told TalkSport. "He is asking for €20million net every season, which is going to be difficult for Real to accept."I think the president has all his eggs on the table just in case he can’t get the renewal of Cristiano. That is my impression.

"He's afraid at some moment that Cristiano will say, 'I am not going to go on'. That will be bad news for Madrid.

"I would like to see him retire at Real but now the situation is difficult. Let's see in the next weeks or months if it can be sorted out and he can stay."Ronaldo sparked speculation about his future at the beginning of last season after revealing he was "sad" in Madrid, while reports in Spain over the summer have claimed that he is still unhappy with the club's attitude to his contract renewal.

    soc_g_soldado_gb1_576_576.jpg

Tottenham have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Valencia to sign Roberto Soldado subject to a medical.

Reports in Valencia sports daily Superdeporte said that the 28-year-old striker is due to undergo a medical on Thursday after signing a contract at 00:30 on Wednesday, enabling a move to White Hart Lane for €30 million.

It is believed the terms of the deal mean Tottenham will make an initial payment of €12 million, with three further payments of €6 million over the next three years. Reports earlier this week had suggested a deal was very close to being struck.Valencia will now turn their attention to replacing the Spain international striker, with former Spurs player Helder Postiga expected to join from Zaragoza this week.

On their official website the club said: "Valencia Club de Fútbol has reached an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, pending the corresponding medical examination, for the transfer of Roberto Soldado for the amount equivalent to that of his release clause."The Club wishes Roberto the best of luck in this new professional phase and we also wish to point out the professionalism and great performance of the footballer in the matches where he has worn the Valencia Club de Fútbol shirt.

"Given the great magnitude of the transfer, Valencia CF would like to manifest that the operation has gone ahead with great effort from the three parties involved. On one hand, Tottenham Hotspur and the footballer along with his agents, and on the other hand, it has supposed an added effort for Valencia Club de Fútbol which never would have had the intention in releasing Roberto Soldado.

"Lastly, Valencia CF wishes to thank the fans for the support received and at the same time offers a message of confidence in the work put forward by the coaches and players that wish to bring the Club forward and fulfill the objective of continuously maintaining Valencia Club de Fútbol as a great team. The Council and the professionals in the Technical Area will make the corresponding arrangements, in accordance with the economic reality, to maintain and increase the potential of the squad in sync with the level of demand of our great history and of our great supporters."

Soldado, who began his career at Real Madrid, scored 82 goals in 141 appearances for Valencia and hit 24 last season.
