Galatasaray can compete with Real Madrid - Terim

    315274_heroa.jpg

Fatih Terim is adamant Galatasaray can upset Real Madrid in their Champions League group stage encounter on Tuesday.

Gala reached the quarter-finals of the competition last term, where los Blancos eliminated them 5-3 on aggregate over two legs.

But the Turkish giants won the second leg at home 3-2 and Terim believes his men can once again spring a suprise on Carlo Ancelotti's star-studded side.

"Real Madrid are the favorites of this group," Terim said.

"One of the two best players in the world is [Cristiano] Ronaldo. The newcomer [Gareth] Bale, same. [Angel] Di Maria, [Karim] Benzema, [Sergio] Ramos, [Iker] Casillas... There are plenty of them.

"They are very strong. But what we say is that we want to succeed in Ali Sami Yen Arena."

Gala will have the backing of their famous home support on Tuesday and Terim is convinced the club's "world class" supporters can give them a crucial edge.

"We can compete against any team," the 60-year-old told a press conference.

"The will, the heart is important. When the Galatasaray team meet with the supporters, everybody knows what my players can do.

"No one should expect a Galatasaray that will accept defeat - especially in European cups. You may not see me to speak like this in Turkey. But in Europe, this is the case.

"We respect our opponents. But we expect the same thing from them too."

"Our supporters are world class. They will have an important mission. I ask their support for our players. We all are Galatasaray fans."

Ancelotti: Casillas will start against Galatasaray

    312032_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Iker Casillas will start in the match against Galatasaray on Tuesday.

The goalkeeper has been left out in the cold so far this season, with Ancelotti opting for Diego Lopez in all of his Liga matches so far.

However, while giving praise to Lopez for his consistent performances, the tactician has announced plans to rotate his squad ahead of the first Champions League group game this term.

"Diego played really well, but the Iker decision has been made," the 54-year-old was quoted as saying by Marca.

He went on to praise Gareth Bale's performance in the 2-2 draw against Villareal last weekend, where the €100 million Welshman was able to get himself on the scoresheet.

"Bale is happy. He played well and showed a good attitude on the pitch," he said.

"I don't think it was the team's worst performance this season. It was clear that the two teams were playing at different tempos. That's to be expected after the international break."

Madrid are preparing to kick off with Galatasaray on September 17.

Kaka waives AC Milan wages during injury absence

    317406_heroa.jpg

AC Milan have announced on their official website that Kaka will be out of action for a while after picking up an adductor problem in this weekend's 2-2 Serie A draw against Torino.

The attacking midfielder was forced to leave the pitch after 70 minutes of play on his Milan return and underwent further examination on Monday to clarify the extent of his injury.

"AC Milan communicate that medical examinations have revealed an injury to Kaka's left adductor," a Milan statement reads.

"The player will undergo another series of tests in 10 days before making a prognosis about the date of return."

Kaka, meanwhile, has made it clear that he will waive his right to receive his wages as long as he is unavailable due to injury.

"Saturday was a bad day for me as I didn't expect this," the 31-year-old told Milan Channel.

"I've talked about this with the club and with [CEO] Adriano Galliani. What I have decided is that I don't want the club to pay me while I'm unavailable. All I want is the club's support and affection during my absence."

Milan are being plagued by injury at the moment, with Giampaolo Pazzini, Daniele Bonera, M'Baye Niang, Riccardo Montolivo, Mattia De Sciglio, Ignazio Abate and Stephan El Shaarawy also sidelined for this week's Champions League clash against Celtic.

Balotelli can become one of the best, says Zanetti

    288198_heroa.jpg

Inter skipper Javier Zanetti believes Mario Balotelli has the potential to become one of the best players in the world with the right attitude.

The Argentine played alongside the current AC Milan star between 2007 and 2010 and he has admitted that the Italy international's attitude complicated matters during his time at the Nerazzurri.

"It was difficult with Mario," he told Rai Due.

"If he realised how much potential he's got he could become one of the very best.

"I hope he does, for his sake."

Zanetti, 40, then went on to discuss his recovery process from a serious Achilles injury and revealed that he could make his comeback halfway through November.

"I've started running again – I missed that! I'm still training on my own but I'll have a test on Tuesday and if everything's okay I'll start upping the workload.

"I need to build up the calf muscle a bit. I'm not too far off returning: hopefully it will be around mid-November."

Ozil will create a lot of opportunities for Arsenal - Ramsey

    317063_heroa.jpg

Aaron Ramsey hailed record signing Mesut Ozil's display after the pair starred in Arsenal's 3-1 away win over Sunderland on Saturday.

After arriving from Real Madrid on deadline day, the Germany international set up Olivier Giroud for the opening goal 11 minutes into his debut with an expertly weighted pass from the left flank.

Operating in the absence of fellow playmaker Santi Cazorla through injury, the 24-year-old went on to create more chances for Theo Walcott on the right flank and Ramsey believes that his new team-mate will continue to impress.

"He's a fantastic player and is very gifted. He's going to create a lot of opportunities for us," the Welshman told the club's official website.

"I think he showed what he's all about [on Saturday] - slipping those little balls through. He has a wonder of a left foot. He caresses the ball and the passes seem to be of a perfect weight and right into people's strides."

Ramsey provided the winning goals for Arsenal, netting his fourth and fifth of the season after Craig Gardner had equalised after a penalty, and praised his side's resolve to recover from conceding just after half-time.

"We conceded a goal very early in the second half and the crowd were right behind them," he added.

"They were putting us under pressure with crosses into the box so we had to dig in and be patient but the goals came in the end and I thought we deserved it."

Wenger: More to come from Ozil at Arsenal

    317116_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger knows that there is more to come from record signing Mesut Ozil after the Germany international's impressive debut at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

It took just 11 minutes for the 24-year-old to capture the fans' attention, providing the assist for Olivier Giroud's opener against Sunderland.

Ozil created further chances for his team-mates, particularly Theo Walcott, as the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners and Wenger believes that what was shown was just a glimpse of the former Real Madrid star's talent.

"He looked very comfortable," the Frenchman told the club's official website. "He is a great player and there is a lot more to come from him. He told me after the game he enjoyed it but he had a good idea of what to expect.

"We have a game that's based a lot on movement and he gives everyone time to be available on the ball. It's a kind of technical security and a creative side to his game that is very interesting. His final pass and his retention of the ball gives everybody time to move."

Ozil missed training on Friday through illness but started on Saturday and Wenger was impressed with his response.

"He was like a guy who was invited to play for us because he was sick," the manager continued, "but, for a guy who was invited, he did well.

"There was a demand from everybody to have a player for reasons that we didn't challenge for the title because we lost big players without being capable of bringing the same stature of players in so [his signing] was a huge lift for everybody who loves our club."

:cool:Manchester United new-boy Fellaini eyeing Champions League debut

    316999_heroa.jpg

Manchester United new-boy Marouane Fellaini is eyeing up a Champions League start when Bayer Leverkusen visit Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

The Belgian midfielder, who joined the club in a £27.5 million deal from Everton on transfer deadline day, made his debut in a 30-minute cameo for the Red Devils in their 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was delighted to feature for United but wants to dive headfirst into his first outing in Europe's biggest continental competition.

"I was happy with my first 30 minutes [against Palace]," the Belgian told reporters. "I've tried to do my job – winning duels, clearing balls, playing clean.

"I hope to start in the Champions League. It will be my first experience in that competition and I'm looking forward to it but the coach decides.

"It's important we make a good start. It was a nice first experience with the fans. They all supported me. I felt confidence. It was a great feeling to come in. Everybody cheered. There were fans with wigs in the stands, which is always nice.

"I want to give everything for this club, for the team-mates and the fans. In all things you feel this is one of the biggest clubs in the world."

:love:Van Persie wants to extend Manchester United stay

    316989_heroa.jpg

Robin van Persie wants to extend his Manchester United stay beyond the end of his contract, which still has three years left to run.

The 30-year-old striker, who joined the club from Arsenal at the beginning of last season, collected his first Premier League medal in May and hopes to add plenty more to his collection.

"I have three more years to go and I would like to stay longer," Van Persie told MUTV.

"I want to play as long as possible at the highest level. Winning trophies is what it is all about."

Despite winning the domestic title, the Dutchman does harbour some regrets about last season, particularly in the Champions League.

Van Persie failed to find the net when United played Real Madrid in a 3-2 aggregate defeat to the Spanish outfit, with the Red Devils leading up until Nani's sending-off.

David Moyes's side host Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday evening in their opening fixture of this season's Champions League campaign and the forward aims to make amends.

"It is probably my only regret about last year," Van Persie remarked of the Madrid defeat. "The referee played an important part but I should have scored at least one or two goals in those games. I didn't, which I don't like. I have to improve on that. Hopefully we can do better this year."

Mourinho: Chelsea are not unbeatable like in 2004

    306977_heroa.jpg

Jose Mourinho warns that success with Chelsea will not come as quickly following his return to the Premier League as it did on his arrival in 2004.

Despite several chances, the Blues were beaten 1-0 away at Everton on Saturday after failing to cancel out Steven Naismith's goal just before half-time, the Portuguese's side having dropped five points from their first four games.

Mourinho dropped just seven points from his opening 13 league matches and lost just one all season upon his first appointment but insists that circumstances are different now.

"No, it is not 2004 all over again. Then we lost against Manchester City in October – our only defeat - but that is not the point. We are not unbeatable. This is a different team," he told reporters.

But the double Champions League-winning manager maintains that he will not accept poor results, arguing that his team will improve if they convert their chances.

"We are not a club who will accept in a cool way that things will come. We're going to chase it," he remarked. "I came here to work – I don't say peacefully because I am the first one that does not like to work peacefully – but to work with time, to develop the players and play the best they and we can.

"We have to be effective, be adult and not naive. That is what we have to work on. We have to transform the beautiful football we played into goals.

"The beginning of the season was hard. Away against Manchester United, away in the Super Cup against Bayern, and away against Everton but Saturday was the story of a team with 21 shots that couldn't score a goal. That is the beauty of football."

Moyes sets 30-goal target for Rooney

    316983_heroa.jpg

Manchester United manager David Moyes has set Wayne Rooney a target of scoring 30 goals this season.

Following a pre-season which was disrupted by injury and transfer speculation, the 27-year-old forward netted his first strike of the campaign with a curling free kick against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Rooney scored 16 times in all competitions for United last season and Moyes believes that the England international is capable of building an understanding with Robin van Persie.

"I will try to do that [get Rooney to 30 goals]," Moyes told reporters.

"I think Wayne's aim will be to do that as well. Hopefully we can make that happen.

"The hope is that we get a partnership where folk are saying, 'My goodness we are having to play against Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney'.

"Everybody is looking to see if those two form a partnership that can score lots of goals. I have to say I have also got Chicharito and Danny Welbeck. Danny has made a great start to the season."

Rooney's reduced tally last term was partly down to being played in midfield on occasions, a move which Moyes is reluctant to replicate this year.

"I can only see Wayne playing up top and playing as a forward for us," said the Scot.

"He has scored a lot of goals. It was down last year. But to be successful you need to have people who can score you 20 goals.

"I am hoping with Robin and Wayne you have two there who you would say they have it in them to do that. It was also good for us that Robin scored. A good start."
