    Wenger hails stunning Wilshere goal as 'one of the best'


    Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hailed one of the goals of the season after his side cruised to a 4-1 win over Norwich City to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

    The Gunners were in scintillating form as Mesut Ozil scored his first two goals for the club either side of a superb solo strike from Aaron Ramsey.

    But it was Jack Wilshere’s opener - a classy volley following a sensational team move - that had Wenger purring in his post-match press conference.

    “It was certainly one of the best goals of the season and one I enjoyed the most,” Wenger said. “It was the combination and speed I like to play. It was a mix of technical quality, speedy thinking and quick reaction.

    “It was a great goal. I think we have scored some good goals already this season, but the first today was exceptional.”

    The result takes the Gunners two points clear of second-placed Chelsea after eight matches, but Wenger was keen to play down the suggestion that his side are now favourites for the title.

    “We have a good attitude and are hungry,” he added. “We have a good solidarity level and quality. We have belief and that is strengthened by every win. There is a long way to go and I believe we just have to focus as a team and keep that solidarity there.”

    Manchester United manager David Moyes has admitted that his side needs to be more clinical in front of goal after they dropped points at home in the Premier League to Southampton.

    The Red Devils spurned a number of chances while 1-0 up against Mauricio Pochettino's side before Adam Lallana's 89th-minute equaliser meant the champions have now failed to win at Old Trafford on three out of four occasions in the league this term.

    Robin van Persie gave Moyes' side the lead midway through the first half, but the former Everton manager was frustrated his side could not put the game to bed.

    "We were disappointed to lose a goal so late on. We had good opportunities to get the game finished off, but while it was 1-0 there was always a chance Southampton could get something," he told reporters.


    "I thought we’d just about seen it out when they got the corner late on.
    “We didn’t do well enough [with the goal] but we should have put the game to bed earlier on. We had a couple of chances and hit the bar.

    "We had some pockets of play that were very good and others where we weren’t so good. It was a mixed game but we still had those chances which I’d hope we could finish off.“We’ve had opportunities to get the goals and see it off, but we’ve got to do better. But we’ve got to do better at the other end too and make sure we’re harder to score against."

    Van Persie's strike was the first United have scored at home in the league from open play this season, and with Chelsea and West Brom also coming away from Old Trafford with points, there has been talk that sides now come to the ground without any fear.

    But Moyes insisted that this had nothing to do with the retirement of Sir Alex Fergsuon, believing it is down to the players to make the stadium a fortress again.
    "The fear comes from the team on the pitch," he added. "The players are the thing because of the quality. Obviously Sir Alex has great history, but the players are always the ones who have to do it on the pitch."

    Meanwhile, Pochettino was thrilled with the result and believes that this draw, coupled with already winning at Anfield, will give his young side great belief heading into the rest of the season.“Getting a very good win at Anfield and a positive result today is amazing for this team," he said.

    "It definitely certifies the quality of this project and how we move forward, especially for the younger players who will gain so much confidence from this.
    “We want to keep on believing that we can do well. It’s a very positive run we’re on at the moment and the sky’s the limit."

    Manchester United are ready to cut their losses on Ashley Young and will listen to offers for the winger in January, Goal can reveal.

    The 28-year-old enjoyed an impressive debut campaign following his £17 million move from Aston Villa just over two years ago but injuries and a chronic loss of form have seen him fall down the Old Trafford pecking order.

    Sources have told Goal that coaches have “seen enough” of the player, who earns £110,000-a-week plus bonuses, to determine he is not worthy of a place in the long-term plans of David Moyes.

    The former Watford starlet’s reputation has taken a pummelling having been embroiled in several diving controversies, the most recent of which occurred during last month’s 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

    Afterwards Moyes criticised Young – comments that have served to strain the relationship between player and manager - for falling under the challenge of Kagisho Dikgacoi which earned his side a penalty and the South African international a red card.

    Moyes said: "I’ve always said I don’t like diving. He deserved to get booked. I don’t want any of my players diving, I don’t want anybody doing it.
    “If you look at it [the penalty], the boy definitely throws his leg out and Ashley’s leg goes into it. I think Ashley has put his leg into it. But I will definitely say to Ashley that it is not what I want.”

    Young has not featured for his club since the 4-1 derby defeat against Manchester City and was ignored for England selection by Roy Hodgson ahead the recent World Cup qualifiers against Montenegro and Poland.The emergence of teenager Adnan Januzaj, who committed his future to the Premier League champions by signing a new five-year deal on Saturday, will further restrict Young’s chances of returning to the first-team fold.

    Young’s route back into the starting XI is further blocked by Nani, who recently signed a lengthy contract extension, Japan international Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha a £17m signing from Crystal Palace last January.

    Torino 3-3 Inter: Palacio strikes twice for 10-man Nerazzurri

    A last-minute free kick from Nicola Bellomo salvaged a point for Torino in an incredible six-goal thriller against 10-man Inter.

    The Nerazzurrihave not lost to the Turin side in 19 years, but that record looked in danger early on when goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was sent off for a foul on Alessio Cerci.

    Cerci saw his resulting penalty saved by substitute keeper Juan Pablo Carrizo before Torino took a deserved lead soon after through Swedish midfielder Alexander Farnerud.Inter, though, rallied and Fredy Guarin punished Torino keeper Daniele Padelli's mistake with a superb bicycle kick to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

    Second-half substitute Ciro Immobile put Torino back into the lead with almost his first touch before another mistake by Padelli was punished by Rodrigo Palacio.
    And the Argentina international grabbed another from close range in the 71st minute before Bellomo's inswinging free kick deceived Carrizo and flew into the net, bringing his side a last-minute reprieve.

    Torino were almost ahead within two minutes when Cerci's perfectly-struck volley from the left corner of the penalty area beat Handanovic but cannoned off the base of the post.

    Handanovic was given his marching orders with five minutes on the clock after he failed to beat Cerci to Farnerud's low cross and sent him crashing to the ground, giving away a penalty in the process.Walter Mazzarri brought on Carrizo to replace attacking midfielder Mateo Kovacic and face Cerci's penalty.The former Roma attacker stepped up confidently but Carrizo, making only his second Inter appearance, dived full length to his right to make a great save.

    As Torino turned the screw Carrizo again saved well when Danilo D'Ambrosio fired in a shot from the edge of the area.Inter, though, were unlucky not to take the lead when Guarin's cross just evaded Yuto Nagatomo at the back post.

    The hosts did take lead when Cerci's clever flick was nodded into the path of Farnerud, who showed brilliant composure to beat Carrizo with a left-footed finish on the half-volley.Inter slowly came back into the game and they got an equaliser with a sublime strike from Colombia international Guarin.

    Padelli's attempt to deal with an Esteban Cambiasso corner only resulted in the ball arcing into the path of Guarin, who pulled off a magnificent bicycle kick to score into the empty net.

    Farnerud returned after half-time with a limp and was soon making way for Immobile, who had an almost immediate impact with the equalising goal. As Cerci dribbled into the area, the ball broke to the former Genoa attacker who unleashed an unstoppable left-footed shot past Carrizo.

    Torino, however, seemed to switch off following the goal and when they allowed Saphir Taider to cross from the left, Padelli misjudged the flight of the ball that broke for Palacio to head into the empty net.

    And things got worse for the hosts when substitute Ishak Belfodil’s excellent low right-wing cross found Palacio inside the six-yard box and the former Boca Juniors striker finished well for his fifth of the season.

    But it was Torino who had the last say when substitute Bellomo sent in an inswinging cross from a left-wing free-kick that deceived Carrizo and ended up in the top corner.

    And the hosts almost grabbed a winner deep into injury-time but Immobile blazed over when teed up by Cerci.
