    Zouma Seals Chelsea Switch

    kurtzouma20111001_576x324.jpg

Chelsea have completed the signing of St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma, with the defender loaned back to the French club for the rest of the season.Zouma, 19, was part of the France team that won the Under-20 World Cup last year and moves for a reported fee of around 12.5 million pounds.

A statement on the Chelsea website read: "Chelsea Football Club has today (Friday) signed Kurt Zouma from St. Etienne. He will remain on loan at the French club for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old central defender has joined Chelsea on a five-and-a-half year contract. This season he has made 12 league appearances for France's fourth-placed side."The 6ft 2in Zouma is a French Under-21 international. He was born in Lyon and joined St. Etienne as a 15-year-old in 2009, turning professional in 2011. In total he has made 52 league appearances for 'Les Verts' and scored four goals. We will be monitoring his progress for the rest of the season here on chelseafc.com."

Zouma, who has attracted the attention of many clubs across Europe this season, was banned for 10 matches in November for a leg-breaking tackle on Sochaux midfielder Thomas Guerbert. He hinted earlier this month that he would like to move to Chelsea, suggesting he had already spoken with Mourinho.

:(David Moyes rules out deadline-day signings at Manchester United

    DAVID-MOYES_3074017.jpg

David Moyes does not expect any new arrivals at Manchester United before tonight's transfer deadline.Last weekend's club-record move for Juan Mata remains this month's stand-out deal, and Moyes will leave it at that until the summer.

Speaking on Sky Sports News ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Stoke, he said: "You can stand your cameras down. I don't think they will be required. We have done our business."Moyes does expect to send some of United's younger players out on loan on Friday.Wilfried Zaha has completed his move to Cardiff until the summer, while Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe have been linked with Fulham.

"We have quite a few young players who will go on loan before the window
closes," Moyes said. "It's for their development - they are looking for a different quality of football."Reserve team football doesn't quite do that for them, so a lot of them will go out on loan, get experience and become better players for it."

Of Zaha, who has made just two substitute appearances in the league this season, he said: "Right at the start of the season I said if I could get him the games I'd keep him. If I couldn't, then I'd get him some games on loan."There were a few clubs who wanted him on loan but in the end we felt Cardiff was the right choice for him."

Diego close to Atletico Madrid loan

    223596_heroa.jpg

Wolfsburg playmaker Diego Ribas is set to rejoin Atletico Madrid on loan until the end of the season, according to the Bundesliga club's sporting director.

The 28-year-old spent the entire 2011-12 season on loan with los Colchoneros and Klaus Allofs has revealed that a six-month deal has been struck following contact from Atleti on Thursday.

“Yesterday we received the offer from Madrid,” Alloff told Kicker.de.

“We had to weigh out the pros and cons. We found a loan agreement - I see it as degrading for us if we sell Diego.”

The attacking midfielder made 43 appearances during his first spell in the Spanish capital and has scored five goals in 16 games for Wolfsburg this term.

Should the transfer be finalised, Diego could make his debut on Sunday as Atletico host Real Sociedad in La Liga.

No goals, no problem - Martino backs Messi

    362836_heroa.jpg

Gerardo Martino insists he is not worried over Lionel Messi's lack of goals for Barcelona following his return from a hamstring injury.

The Argentine spent two months on the sidelines after picking up the problem back in November and has failed to find the back of the net in the league since making his comeback at the start of January.

Messi's last goal in La Liga was a solitary strike in the Blaugrana's 2-0 away win over Almeria on September 28, but Barcelona boss Martino has played down the significance of his star man's current dry spell.

"The biggest benefit is that Leo does not bear much responsibility,” Martino said ahead of this weekend's clash with Valencia.

“This year, the this situation is more beneficial because the other players are also growing.”

The reigning Liga champions have returned 23 goals in eight Liga matches since Messi's last league strike, though the 26-year-old did score two goals in the 4-0 win over Getafe in the Copa del Rey on January 8.

Martino also revealed he had spoken to the forward one-on-one this week but denied the discussion had anything to do with his performances on the pitch.

Martino added: “What I talked to him has nothing to do with Barcelona. I hope I can explain it next week.

“What I did with him, I do with most players.”

The former Newell's Old Boys coach then gave his thoughts on Neymar's battle to recover from an ankle problem in time for the first-leg of his side's Champions League last-16 clash with Manchester City.

“I am very respectful of what the doctors tell me. The importance of that game does not warrant putting a player at risk.”

Fulham close in on Heitinga loan

    361780_heroa.jpg

Jonny Heitinga is set to join Fulham on loan from Everton, Goal understands.

But the Cottagers' hopes of landing Manchester United pair Ryan Tunnicliffe and Larnell Cole as a double package are receding. As revealed by Goal, the two United midfielders were booked in for medicals at Fulham’s Motspur Park headquarters on Friday.Fulham are still on course to sign Tunnicliffe but the Cole deal is believed to be on the verge of collapse.

The Londoners had come to an agreement with United on Thursday to pay fees for Tunnicliffe and Cole, who are deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and capture the pair on permanent deals. It has been a frenzied spell of transfer window activity at Craven Cottage, with Rene Meulensteen’s side having seen off interest from West Ham to seal an £11m deal for Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglou.

Heitinga will join after Fulham completed the loan signing of Lewis Holtby from Tottenham earlier on Friday and signed midfielder William Kvist on loan from Stuttgart on Thursday.

AC Milan make late Nani bid

    363956_heroa.jpg

AC Milan have made a deadline day bid to sign Manchester United winger Nani, Goal understands.

The Serie A outfit have told Old Trafford officials that they would be willing to pay the Portuguese's £80,000-a-week salary in full as part of a loan deal until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent signing in the summer.

United are willing to allow Nani's exit despite Wilfried Zaha's loan to Cardiff City, but a deal remains far from close, with Milan concerned over both the player's fitness and the fact that he is ineligible to play Champions League football this term.

"Milan are definitely interested but there are a fair few obstacles to overcome if we're going to see a deal get signed off," a source close to United told Goal.

Milan's city rivals Inter were close to a deal with Nani earlier this week but terms couldn't be agreed.

Nani signed a new deal at Old Trafford after David Moyes convinced him not to leave in the summer transfer window but has failed to impress the new United boss this term.

The Portugal international has started just four Premier League games this season and has not featured since the defeat against Newcastle in early December, after which he suffered a hamstring injury in training that Moyes revealed would “keep him out for a while”.

Goal understands the player feels he has been harshly treated by his new manager and, prior to his latest fitness setback, had grown concerned at a lack of playing time, particularly in a World Cup year.

Aguero out of Barcelona showdown with hamstring injury

    364081_heroa.jpg

Manchester City have been handed a severe blow ahead of the Champions League showdown with Barcelona with the news that Sergio Aguero is likely to miss a month with a hamstring injury.

The Argentina striker, who has scored six goals in his last five games since returning from a calf injury he picked up in December’s win over Arsenal, tweaked his hamstring shortly after opening the scoring in Wednesday’s 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

City, who returned to the top of the Premier League in midweek, are due to face Tata Martino’s side in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium on 18 February, with the return fixture at Camp Nou scheduled for 12 March.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "[Samir] Nasri continues treatment. Javi Garcia and Kun Aguero are injured. [The] doctor has seen Aguero and he will be out for a month."

"It will be difficult because he is a top player for us but we have the players to replace him.

"He has just come back from injury and Alvaro Negredo, Stevan Jovetic and Edin Dzeko can replace him."

Monaco line up Berbatov to replace Falcao

    359872_heroa.jpg

Monaco have beaten Tottenham to the signing of Dimitar Berbatov from Fulham.

The Bulgarian striker landed in Monaco on Friday morning to complete his transfer to the Ligue 1 side before the transfer window closes this evening.

Spurs had hoped to bring Berbatov back to the club he left in 2008 in a £1.5 million deal but the 33-year-old is now heading for big-spending Monaco.

The French club made their move for Berbatov after Radamel Falcao was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, with coach Claudio Ranieri hinting on Friday that a move could be possible.

Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen sanctioned Berbatov’s departure as he looks to make big changes to his relegation-threatened squad.

The Cottagers have confirmed the arrival of midfielder Lewis Holtby on loan from Spurs until the end of the season, while they also hope to tie up a €12m deal for Olympiakos striker Kostas Mitroglou.

Fulham are also expecting to complete deals for Manchester United youngsters Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe on Friday.

    Fulham wrap up Holtby deal

    364623_heroa.jpg

Fulham have completed the signing of Tottenham midfielder Lewis Holtby on loan until the end of the season.

The Germany international, who has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane under new boss Tim Sherwood, completed a medical just before midnight on Thursday, with talks continuing into the early hours of Friday morning.

Holtby's agent exclusively told Goal that, despite being linked with the likes of Schalke and Borussia Dortmund, the 23-year-old was convinced by the Fulham project and that he was looking forward to working alongside manager Rene Meulensteen.

"Fulham made a big effort to get Lewis. This club is well-led and Meulensteen is an excellent coach and manager. His system and his philosophy fit well with Lewis," Marcus Noack told Goal.

"He will be able to gain matches in his favourite position during the second part of the season. Then we will see how things develop until the summer. Going back to the Bundesliga was not possible due to circumstances that we could not influence."

Holtby will spend the rest of the season on loan with the west London club as he looks to increase his chances of being picked for Germany's World Cup squad, with the Cottagers having the option to purchase the midfielder in the summer.

The former Schalke star, who will wear the No.10 jersey at Craven Cottage, trained with his new team-mates at Fulham's Motspur Park training base on Friday, with Goal exclusively revealing that club are also close to finalising deals for Kostas Mitroglou and Manchester United duo Larnell Cole and Ryan Tunnicliffe.

Dimitar Berbatov, meanwhile, is on his way out of Fulham, with the former Tottenham striker having travelled to Monaco to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms with the Ligue 1 outfit.

Official: AC Milan finalise Taarabt deal

    364112_heroa.jpg

AC Milan have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Adel Taarabt from QPR on loan until the end of the season with an option to make the move permanent come June.

The Morocco international travelled to Italy on Thursday to undergo a medical and he has now finalised his temporary move to San Siro on deadline day, with the club confirming the news via their official website.

Newly-appointed head coach Clarence Seedorf had demanded attacking reinforcements as he lacked options to play his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation and the Dutchman saw Taarabt as a useful addition to his front line.

The 24-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Fulham, but the Premier League side agreed to let go of Taarabt as he no longer played a part in manager Rene Meulensteen's plans for the remainder of the campaign.

Taarabt previously wore the jerseys of Lens and Tottenham Hotspur before joining QPR in 2010, with whom he has a contract until June 2016.

The Morocco international becomes Milan's fourth signing of the January transfer window after the previous arrivals of Adil Rami, Keisuke Honda and Michael Essien.

    Official: Dortmund sign Milos Jojic

    364433_heroa.jpg

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Serbia international Milos Jojic from Partizan Belgrade for a fee believed to be in the region of €2.5 million.

Last year's Champions League finalists were keen to add to their ranks after Jakub Blaszczykowski was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury and they have now found their man in 21-year-old Jojic.

The attacking midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the Bundesliga giants.

"We're very happy with the signing of Milos Jojic. He is a player who is very versatile in midfield and who has a lot of potential. He completes our squad," sporting director Michael Zorc commented on the move.

Jojic came through the ranks of the Partizan youth academy and made his official first team debut in 2012-13 after a previous loan spell with Teleoptik.

He had since developed into a key player at the Belgrade outfit and his continued good form this season earned him a switch to Signal Iduna Park.

Jojic has been capped at senior level for Serbia, scoring on his international debut against Japan in October 2013.

Cardiff complete moves for Zaha & Fabio

    357553_heroa.jpg

Cardiff City have completed moves for Manchester United duo Fabio and Wilfried Zaha, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The Brazilian full-back joins the Welsh club on a permanent deal, while Zaha has secured a loan switch until the end of the season.

The duo are the fifth and sixth signings of a busy window for the new boss, with Norwegians Magnus Eikrem, Mats Daehli and Jo Inge Berget and Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones also brought in.

"My phone is ringing and I am answering most of them. Maybe some players will go out on loan, but we are done with signings," Solskjaer told reporters.

"Some players I have looked at and some have not come through. I can't confirm or deny anybody.

"We have added three new players this week - Fabio, Kenwyne and Wilf. They have energy and enthusiasm and presence - together they complement my squad and I am happy with what I have now."

Zaha joined United in a deal reportedly worth up to £15 million in January 2013 but, after spending the rest of the 2012-13 campaign on loan at former club Crystal Palace, has found first-team opportunities difficult to come by under David Moyes.

Fabio, meanwhile, spent last season on loan at QPR after failing to hold down a place in the United team despite starting the 2011 Champions League final.

    Wenger rules out Draxler signing

    361761_heroa.jpg

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal will not be signing Schalke star Julian Draxler on deadline day.

Goal revealed on Sunday that the Gunners had disptached representatives to Germany in an attempt to thrash out a deal for the highly rated 20-year-old.

But the two clubs have been unable to agree on a valuation for the playmaker, with Arsenal willing to pay between £25-30 million and Schalke holding out for the player's £37.2m release clause to be met.

The Bundesliga club's general manager Horst Heldt insisted on Thursday that Draxler would remain in Gelsenkirchen at least until the end of the season, and Wenger has now confirmed a January deal is off.

"The Draxler situation has been created by the newspapers, not by me. He will stay at Schalke," Wenger told reporters.

With talks dragging on, Goal reported on Thursday that Wenger has turned his attention to Lazio striker Miroslav Klose and Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata in a bid to solve his striker shortage.

Klose is 35 but is expected to be in the Germany squad at this summer's World Cup and remains a regular scorer for club and country.

Morata, 21, is at the other end of the age scale but is only on the fringes of the Real team and Madrid may consider a half-season in England a valuable learning experience for the Spain Under-21s international.

Barcelona deny offering Valdes new deal

    360416_heroa.jpg

Barcelona have hit back at reports the club have offered goalkeeper Victor Valdes a new contract.

Last season the Spain goalkeeper announced his decision to leave the Blaugrana when his current deal expires at the end of the campaign.

But Radio Marca claimed the reigning Liga champions had attempted to change the 32-year-old's mind one last time.

A statement from club sources said: “FC Barcelona categorically denies the information released this afternoon by Radio Marca in relation to a new contract offer for Victor Valdes.

“The club respects the decision taken by the player. We would like to show its gratitude, once again, for the commitment and professionalism he shows day in, day out.”

Barcelona have recently been linked with a host of potential replacements, including Borussia Monchengladbach's Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Liverpool bid for Konoplyanka on verge of collapse

    350059_heroa.jpg

Liverpool's deadline day move for Yevhen Konoplyanka is on the brink of collapse after the player's agent admitted a deal is "very unlikely", Goal can reveal. The Reds opened negotiations after Ian Ayre flew out to Ukraine earlier this week but are struggling to agree a fee for the 24-year-old winger before Friday's 11pm deadline.

As revealed by Goal, the left-sided attacker has set his heart on a move to Liverpool after Tottenham pulled out of a deal, but Dnipro are keen to secure a sale for as close to their £20m valuation as possible.

But Oliver Cabrera, who owns OML Sports & Marketing, the company Konoplyanka is signed to, told Goal: "We have a very good relationship with the president [Ihor] Kolomoyskyi and he doesn't want to sell the player."

"Yehven and his father respect that so a move is very unlikely."

Cabrera is one of the main parties negotiating the deal from his base in Stockholm, and did insist that the proposed transfer has not collapsed completely.Liverpool are desperate to force the move through after being gazumped by Chelsea in their atempts to sign Mohamed Salah from Basel.

Tottenham pulled out of the race to sign Konoplyanka after Tim Sherwood had concerns over how well the Ukraine international would adapt to the Premier League"There's obviously an interest in the player but there's no update," Brendan Rodgers said at his Friday press conference.

"The staff over there have done brilliant work with regards to trying to get the player."But we need to see how that develops over the course of the day. It's all happened so quickly and the deadline is tight.

"We've had a list with a number of players on it, so we'll see how it develops later."

Kallstrom completes Arsenal medical but Klose move off

    364735_heroa.jpg

Kim Kallstrom has completed an Arsenal medical and is set to finalise a loan move until the end of the season, but Goal understands that the Swedish midfielder will not be joined at Emirates Stadium by Miroslav Klose.

The Gunners had centred their deadline-day attention on loan deals for Lazio striker Klose and Spartak Moscow midfielder Kallstrom, with Real Madrid youngster Alvaro Morata identified as a back-up forward option.

Arsenal contract fixer Dicky Law was in Italy on Friday to negotiate a deal for veteran Germany striker Klose. There were indications that the player was keen to join but the Londoners could not agree a deal with the Serie A club.

Arsenal could move back in for Morata but time is running out for new arrivals as the clock ticks down to the 11pm transfer deadline.

Arsene Wenger decided to reinforce his central midfield after learning, as revealed by Goal on Tuesday, that Aaron Ramsey is out for up to six weeks following a training ground injury sustained to his thigh injury on Monday.

Blaise Matuidi was Wenger's No.1 target but the France international has decided to extend his Paris Saint-Germain contract. The Arsenal boss then turned to Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin, but was put off by the £15 million valuation placed on the Saints midfielder.

Wenger eventually sanctioned a move for Kallstrom and the 31-year-old arrived at Arsenal's London Colney training base on Friday for personal talks and to undergo a medical, which he has now passed.
