    Pochettino: Tottenham won't buy big

    411381_heroa.jpg

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has warned fans not to expect many new signings this summer.

Spurs made major moves in the transfer market in 2013, breaking their club transfer record three times for Paulinho, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela following the €100 million sale of Gareth Bale.

But Pochettino, who moved to White Hart Lane from Southampton at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, says there will not be the same upheaval this time around.

"I'm very pleased with our squad and we don't expect many changes for the season," he told reporters. "It's possible we may still add some players but [there will] not be many changes."

Swansea left-back Ben Davies will seemingly be one arrival at White Hart Lane after he was spotted training with the club in Toronto in a video on their official website, even though his transfer has not been officially confirmed.

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin could also join up with his former boss Pochettino after making clear that he would prefer a move to Spurs over Arsenal.

Tottenham started their pre-season tour of north America with a 3-3 draw against Seattle Sounders on Saturday, and will play Toronto on Thursday and Chicago Fire on Sunday before flying back to Europe to face Celtic in Helsinki on August 2.

Pochettino, though, is not too pleased about the schedule and obligation to fly long distances at this stage of the summer.

"[The tour] is not easy for us because we are in the middle of our pre-season, but we understand we are a big club and we need to come here for various reasons, so we have to adapt," he added. "We are happy, because Seattle had a wonderful facility and Toronto is the same.

"For us it's difficult to play tomorrow because we are at a different period in our preparation, but it's good for our fans and to improve our performance."

The Argentine boss also confirmed that right-back Kyle Walker could make a return to action following a groin injury which has kept him out of the line-up since March.

"It's possible that he will play 45 minutes tomorrow," he added. "We want to see in the last training session today before the game that he is getting better, but we think its very possible that he plays 45 minutes."

Manchester City cancel Under-21 friendly over racism storm

    437716_heroa.jpg

Manchester City's Elite Development Squad Under-21 game against HNK Rijeka has been cancelled after an alleged incident of racial abuse, the club have confirmed.

City's players were withdrawn shortly before half-time in Novigrad, Croatia, after Seko Fofana was reported to have been subjected to the taunts by a member of HNK Rijeka.

A statement released by the Premier League champions states that the club's management took the decision to withdraw the team from the field of play and cancel the game.

The matter is now being discussed between City representatives, match officials and the Croatian Football Association over whether the matter will be pursued further.

Fabregas: I want to win absolutely everything at Chelsea

    426784_heroa.jpg

Cesc Fabregas says he is desperate to win every trophy on offer after completing his move from Barcelona to Chelsea.

The Blues acquired the Spain international for a fee close to €38m earlier this summer and Fabregas is keen to hit the ground running, having linked up with the club ahead of their pre-season tour of Austria.

Speaking during his first interview as a Chelsea player, the midfielder admitted he was glad the deal was agreed before the World Cup and insists he made the right decision to join the Blues, despite reported interest from former club Arsenal.

“My ambitions? My ambitions are to win absolutely everything,” he told the club's official website.

“It was very important for me that the deal was done before the World Cup. I wanted my head free and to know what I was going to do next season and where I was going to be.

“I thought I was at the right age and I believed I wanted a change. I looked at all the offers I had and after speaking to the coach I thought Chelsea was the best decision.

“Jose’s teams are always difficult to beat and always difficult to play against. Tactically they are very well-composed and they have discipline. He gets the best out of his players.”

Fabregas also hailed international team-mates Diego Costa and Fernando Torres, whom he will link up with at Stamford Bridge, with the former having completed a €41m move from Atletico Madrid.

“I started playing with Fernando when I was 18, on my debut for the Spanish national team, so we’ve been playing together for nine years,” he said. “We have won two European Championships and the World Cup together.

“I really like playing with him. He’s really strong, he goes behind defenders and his movement off the ball is superb. I’m sure we’ll have a good partnership together.

“Diego has been progressing immensely in the last couple of years.

“He is a real threat in every single game; last season he was playing every three days and he was consistently giving really strong performances.

“He goes behind the defence and he makes the kind of runs players like me really like because it gives you an option to play the killer ball. I think he will do superbly here.”

Zaha keen to impress Van Gaal at Manchester United

    432834_heroa.jpg

Wilfried Zaha is hoping to impress new manager Louis van Gaal, having returned to Manchester United following his loan spell at Cardiff.

Sir Alex Ferguson's last signing before his retirement, Zaha joined United in a £15 million deal from Crystal Palace in January 2013 and was immediately loaned back to the Eagles, helping them secure their promotion to the Premier League.

However, he struggled to make his mark under David Moyes – making just three appearances before his move to Wales – and he is now keen to prove his worth on the club's pre-season tour of America, with the Dutchman having replaced the beleaguered Scot.

"It's great to be back," Zaha told United's official website. "There's a nice vibe, everybody's working hard and we're looking forward to the new season.

"Going to Cardiff was a really good experience for me. I managed to get quite a few games under my belt at Premier League level, which was good, and I feel like I've come back a better player.

"I've realised there are things about my game I need to work on and concentrate on and I know this is the best place to be if I want to improve. I really want to make myself a better player."

United will play LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter and Real Madrid during their tour and Zaha is confident he will be given a chance to show his talent as Van Gaal evaluates United's squad ahead of the 2014-15 season.

"For me, I definitely feel like this is a clean slate," Zaha said. "All I'm trying to do is impress the new manager and get into his squad. All I can do is give my all. There's a new manager and I want to make sure I show him what I can do.

"United are a big club so we need strong opposition and we've got that on pre-season this year. There's no doubt we'll be tested on tour and that's a good thing. It should prepare us well for the season ahead. I’m really looking forward to being involved and I can't wait to face those teams."

'Bayern will fire me if I fail' - Guardiola

    412827_heroa.jpg

Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola has admitted he will lose his job if he fails to meet expectations next season.

The Spaniard led the Bavarian club to the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal in his first campaign at the Allianz Arena, but failed to retain the Champions League after being knocked out 5-0 on aggregate by Real Madrid.

"There are no secrets. If I don't win, another coach will come next year," he told reporters.

"I came to do my job the best way possible, like I did at Barcelona. I came to a different country where they play football in a completely different way.

"I intend to adapt myself and hope that they adapt to my ideas, but that process is not something achieved in a year.

"We won the Bundesliga and we won the Pokal in an incredible season. What happened against Madrid was a shame. Not that we lost, but that we lost an opportunity."

Guardiola went on to claim that too many teams attempted to copy his Barcelona side's style of play.

"All the people went and copied that. It's a big mistake. You copy that and you won one day because of that. But one day you are going to lose.

"Be patient with the coach and the player and you are going to be good.

"Any system is good, any system is wrong. I'm not convinced England and Italy went out [of the World Cup] because their system is wrong or Germany won because their philosophy is right.

"Spain lost and they will keep going with the same coach and the same style of play. And maybe they will go back. It's a matter of believing in what you do."

James will seduce fans - Perez

    437706_heroa.jpg

Florentino Perez has backed James Rodriguez to "seduce" supporters after completing his €80 million move from Monaco to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old was unveiled as a Madrid player in front of 44,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening following the completion of his medical and signing of a six-year deal with the club.

James joins the club on the back of a fine World Cup in which he walked away with the Golden Boot as the tournament's top scorer with six goals, and Perez hopes he can replicate that form for Madrid.

"Today arrives a man who seduces football fans, has led an extraordinary Colombian national team, a player who was one of the sensations of the World Cup," the Madrid president enthused.

"Their brilliant game and his goals have confirmed him as one of best at the World Cup, with the Golden Boot and the best goal of the tournament. Welcome to James Rodriguez!"

James spent just one season with Monaco after joining the club for €45 million from Porto last summer, but made no secret of his desire to become a Madrid player with a string of comments during the World Cup.

That desire to wear the Madrid jersey was not lost on Perez, who revealed his pride at giving the Colombia star the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of many of his childhood heroes.

He added: "You have never hidden your passion for our shirt. Every time you have been asked you answered proudly.

"Today you will intensely remember the first time you visited the Bernabeu and you said you wanted to play here. That dream has just begun. The boy who dreamed of wearing the shirt of [Zindedine] Zidane, Raul and [David] Beckham is now a Real Madrid player."

The deal makes James the fourth most expensive footballer of all-time, while he will wear the No. 10 shirt for the club.

    James reveals Zidane dream

    437659_heroa.jpg

James Rodriguez has revealed his lifelong dream to follow in the footsteps of Zinedine Zidane after being unveiled as a Real Madrid player.

The 23-year-old has signed a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu after Madrid agreed an €80 million deal with Monaco - making him the third most expensive Blancos player of all-time after Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale.

The Colombia international was paraded in front of 40,000 supporters on Tuesday evening and revealed he has always been a fan of the club and the man now in charge of the club's reserve side.

"I always idolised Zidane," James revealed after being presented to the media.

"Zidane, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos. I was always a Real Madrid fan. I always followed them and always dreamed about being here."

Falcao - who has played alongside James for Colombia and Monaco - has been tipped to follow him to Madrid, but the former Porto star says he hasn't discussed that prospect with the striker, but admitted he is more than good enough to play for the club.

"He's not told me anything. We don't talk about it. Falcao's a great goalscorer and could play here, but that's for the club."

Despite following the likes of Clarence Seedorf and Luis Figo in wearing the famous No.10 jersey for Madrid, James added his willingness to operate in any position coach Carlo Ancelotti sees fit.

"I'll play where the gaffer decides. In the middle, on the right or on the left."

The South American star will battle it out with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria and Isco for a place in Madrid's front four.

Nice 1-2 Paris Saint-Germain: Brilliant Bahebeck on target again for Ligue 1 champions

    438035_heroa.jpg

Jean-Christophe Bahebeck starred again as Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 2-1 friendly win over Ligue 1 rivals Nice on Wednesday.

Bahebeck, a goalscorer in all three of PSG's previous friendlies, continued his impressive form in the build up to the new campaign, as he netted the opener at the Stade de la Mediterranee in Beziers before Marquinhos wrapped up the win.

A late goal from teenager Franck Honorat gave Nice something to take from the game, but Laurent Blanc's side had already done enough by that stage.

Following wins for PSG over Hartberg and Videoton before losing to Red Bull Leipzig during pre-season, Nice promised to provide sterner opposition for the Ligue 1 champions.

However, Blanc's side started brightly and forged ahead in the third minute when Bahebeck slotted in at the far post after being cleverly played in by last season's Ligue 1 top scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Their lead was doubled nine minutes before half-time through centre-back Marquinhos.

Bahebeck was involved again, his corner being met by the Brazilian with a powerful downward header past Nice goalkeeper Mouez Hassen.

Nice, to their credit, produced a much-improved performance in the second half and they were rewarded in the 73rd minute with a well-taken goal from 17-year-old striker Honorat.

But for all their endeavour, Claude Puel's side could not find an equaliser.

Wolfsberger AC 1-1 Chelsea: Boga on target as Filipe Luis makes Blues debut

    438045_heroa.jpg

Filipe Luis made his Chelsea debut as Jose Mourinho's men came from behind to draw 1-1 at Wolfsberger AC on Wednesday.

Full-back Filipe - who penned a three-year deal at Stamford Bridge last week - played an hour of the pre-season fixture with the Austrian side at the Worthersee Stadion.

However, the Brazil international was unable to help his new team follow up friendly wins over Wycombe Wanderers and AFC Wimbledon.

After a goalless first half, the hosts went ahead in controversial fashion 10 minutes after the restart when Silvio's effort was deemed to have crossed the line, despite protests from Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

But Chelsea escaped with a draw thanks to a fine solo effort from teenager Jeremie Boga.

Filipe showed a first glimpse of his talent when his whipped cross from the left was met by a tame volley from Mohamed Salah from the edge of the box early on.

Isaiah Brown could have opened the scoring in the 34th minute when Patrick Bamford flicked Marco van Ginkel's cross into the young forward's path, but goalkeeper Alexander Kofler stood firm to stop the shot.

Having failed to find the breakthrough in the first half half, Chelsea fell behind in the 55th minute in contentious circumstances.

A cross from the right was knocked back across goal and substitute Silvio's shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Cech but was deemed to have crossed the line.

Soon after, Filipe was replaced by Nathan Ake, before Cech denied Christopher Wernitznig and then produced a spectacular save to keep out Silvio's low header.

However, Boga - who had replaced Lewis Baker at the break - restored parity in the 83rd minute, the attacking midfielder shrugging off two defenders before lashing the ball into the bottom corner.

Podolski urges Khedira to sign for Arsenal

    436070_heroa.jpg

Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has urged Germany international team-mate Sami Khedira to join him at the Emirates Stadium.

The Real Madrid midfielder is set to be offloaded by the Spanish giants in the summer window, with Goal revealing on July 17 that Chelsea have edged ahead of the Gunners in the race to sign him.

And while Podolski, who shared an apartment with Khedira at the World Cup, insists he did not try to convince the 27-year-old to make the switch to Arsene Wenger's side during the duo's time in Brazil, he is keen to see him move to north London.

"I don't have to try to convince Khedira to join Arsenal," he told Sport Bild.

"Sami knows how much fun he could have with me, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker at Arsenal. We had a great time together at the World Cup and I would like it very much if he comes to London."

Khedira's €250,000-a-week wage demands have put off the Gunners, clearing a path for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea to seal a deal, with Juventus having placed a €75 million valuation on the Blues' top target Paul Pogba.

Khedira played five of Germany's World Cup matches in Brazil but missed the final against Argentina through injury.

Iniesta: Barca captaincy would be a dream

    403088_heroa.jpg

Andres Iniesta has says being appointed as Barcelona's new captain would be "a dream".

The Catalan side have seen club captain Carles Puyol retire, goalkeeper Victor Valdes leave the club this summer and Xavi - at 34 years of age - is hardly a long-term option to take the skipper's armband for the long term.

Iniesta, 30, is now one of the senior squad members at Camp Nou and such a status makes him an ideal candidate for the captaincy, which he overwhelmingly endorses despite the pressure it would bring.

"Being captain of the first team has always been in your dreams," the Spain international told Mundo Deportivo.

"It's a step because it means you're still in the first team and keep improving. You have the respect of your peers, but also the other part, which is that you get older.
"It has its positive and negative parts."

The former Ballon d'Or nominee also shared some kind words for his departing colleagues Puyol and Valdes, as well as Xavi, whom he has played alongside in the middle of the park for the majority of his career so far."The truth is I am very happy to have been in this group with Xavi and Puyol as well as Victor Valdes," he added.

"Experiences that you live together, not just football but at personal level, make you a better person and better player."

Tevez: Ditching Juventus never on the cards

    437981_heroa.jpg

Carlos Tevez has claimed that it was never a possibility he would leave Juventus after the departure of Antonio Conte, who brought the former Manchester City striker to Turin last summer.

The Juve boss' acrimonious resignation this month was reportedly sparked by a lack of intent and imagination in the transfer market, with several senior players also thought to have been left disillusioned with the club.

However, the 30-year-old attacker insists he never thought about asking for a move - despite reports in Italy suggesting he threatened to force for a transfer if Roberto Mancini had been hired - while also claiming the team can succeed without Conte.

"The idea of leaving Juventus never crossed my mind after the departure of Conte. I signed up for three years and I want to finish my contract," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"His choice to leave did not disappoint me. We have to show that this team is winners. Conte had a great influence on our victories, but the badge is not just about him."

Conte's replacement, Massimiliano Allegri, has proven to be an unpopular choice among many Bianconeri fans while star midfielder Arturo Vidal continues to be linked away from Turin.

Despite the stream of negativity coming from Juventus at the moment, though, Tevez remains upbeat when questioned about the new coach and his Chilean team-mate."I don't know Allegri or how his methods work, but we are training well, which is important," the Argentine added.

"Vidal is a phenomenon and a great champion. I hope that stays here with us, as he simply must not go away from Juve."

Tevez was an integral member of the playing staff as he helped Juventus and Antonio Conte on their way to a third consecutive Serie A title last season.
