Di Maria: Argentina want to become legends

    angel-di-maria-argentina_zl3yrfzv6kdj130orhhswfiiv.jpg

Angel Di Maria says he and his Argentina team-mates want to become legends by winning Copa America 2015.

The Albiceleste have won the tournament 14 times but they have not lifted the trophy since 1993.

However, Argentina will play hosts Chile in the final in Santiago on Saturday and Di Maria has revealed how Gerardo Martino's men are desperate to cement their place in their country's proud footballing history.

"Reaching a final is something very important, so we have to rise to the occasion," he is quoted as saying by Marca on the eve of the tournament decider."We must carry on working hard because it's what's needed to reach our goal.

"Getting to the final is no walk in the park and we have made history in doing so.
"But now we want to become legends. Hopefully, we can pull it off."

Di Maria arrived in Chile on the back of a difficult debut season at Manchester United, but he insisted that he is now brimming with belief again after bagging two goals in Argentina's 6-1 demolition of Paraguay in the Copa semi-finals.

"In attack, things hadn't been working out for me, but now, after scoring, I'm happy about a job well done and the goals," the winger added.

    Cagliari sign Storari from Juventus

    marcostorari-cropped_1puzwuqf5i1m91lr89mo9ax8wy.jpg

Cagliari have confirmed the arrival of goalkeeper Marco Storari from Juventus on a two-year contract.

The 38-year-old joined the Bianconeri from AC Milan in 2010 but spent his time in Turin serving as Gianluigi Buffon's understudy.Storari has now decided to leave for Sardinia, where he will compete with Alessio Cragno and Simone Colombi for the No.1 jersey.

"Cagliari announces that it has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Marco Storari," a Rossoblu statement read."The agreement with the keeper will last for two years and a medical will take place in Cagliari next week."

Juve, meanwhile, were quick pay tribute to a goalkeeper whose final act was to help the club win last season's Coppa Italia.

"Signed from Milan in 2010, Storari promptly became an integral figure of a dressing room that propelled the club to four successive Scudetto titles, always willing to offer encouragement and advice to those around him," read a statement on the Italian champions' official website.

"His role as Gigi Buffon’s deputy may have seen him take a back seat as far as first-team duties were concerned, but when given the nod, he always proved up to the task with reliable and consistent displays between the sticks.

"This commitment and dedication to the cause was particularly evident in last season’s win over Inter at the San Siro, when a miraculous double save denied both Rodrigo Palacio and Mauro Icardi from point-blank range, and the unforgettable Coppa Italia final win over Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.

"Having lifted four Scudetti, two Italian Super Cups and one Coppa Italia, the 38-year-old will now embark on a fresh challenge with a club he represented on loan in 2008, Cagliari.

"All associated with Juventus wish Marco all the very best for this new chapter of his career."

Holebas: I haven't signed a contract with Watford!

    lichtsteiner-holebas-roma-juventus-serie-a_10iwkumh4btcl111guy7grw8qu.jpg

Roma defender Jose Holebas insists he has been left in the dark over his move to Watford and claims he has yet to sign a contract with the Premier League new boys.

The Hornets announced the arrival of the experienced Greece international on Thursday, with Roma simultaneously confirming his departure from the Stadio Olimpico.

However, the 31-year-old left-back claims that he is being forced into a transfer.

“They arranged my transfer without asking me,” Holebas told gazzeta.gr.

“I haven’t signed anything yet; I have to see the contract first. I don’t know why this has happened. I know that both Roma and Watford announced my transfer, but they’d have to talk to my representatives first.

“I never said I wanted to leave Roma. I’ll sign after first agreeing to the terms of the contract.

“I can’t understand what’s happened. I came back from my holiday in Dubai and everyone started telling me my transfer had been officially announced.

“I’m in Germany right now, so how could I sign a contract?"

    Fiorentina set to sue Salah

    mohamed-salah-fiorentina_jowww1x25dv81llun4tam53yk.jpg

Fiorentina have announced they are willing to take legal action against Mohamed Salah over his refusal to remain at the Artemio Franchi, prompting the forward's agent to brand the Serie A side "pathetic".

The Viola signed the Egypt international on loan from Chelsea in January and it was reported at the time that the Italian outfit retained the option to extend the agreement for another year and buy the winger for an agreed fee at the end of the 2015-16 season.

However, Salah and his agent maintain that the 23-year-old did not sign any contract committing himself to Fiorentina beyond June 30.

Consequently, the Viola - who also claim to have offered Salah a pay rise to stay in Florence - are now ready to settle the matter in the courts, with the former Basel ace having refused to turn up for pre-season training.

"The player, through his representative, rejected the offer of improvement of his contract and he has even expressed his intention to be transferred to another club and not answer a call-up that had already been submitted," read a statement released on Fiorentina's official website on Friday.

"Our lawyers will now work to evaluate lawsuits aimed at defending Fiorentina."
However, Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas, reacted furiously to the threat of legal action, insisting his client has done nothing wrong and will not be at Fiorentina next season - no matter what happens.

"Please note, in response to the Viola’s press release, that at the moment Salah is a Chelsea player,” he stated.

“We referred to the document signed by all [three] parties in January, which is clear, crystal clear, and it’s regrettable that Fiorentina are now talking about legal proceedings.

“It’s very sad to see a great club like Fiorentina make such pathetic attempts to renege on their agreements, and their written contractual obligations.“Salah would like to play for a club with different moral and professional values.”

Abbas added that he now expects his client's future to be resolved in the coming days - and that the winger could end up lining up for another Serie A side next season."I can only say that he belongs to Chelsea but that he's liked by Italian clubs, among others," the agent told Radio Bruno Toscano.

"Some of these clubs have shown great interest in him. There will be news in the coming days.

"Mohamed is grateful to the city of Florence for the way in which they treated him, but I cannot speak for him: just that there will be a chance to explain everything."

    Official: Juventus sign Neto

    neto-fiorentina_o4sk8c4m6eek1rpnu5yv0m14p.jpg

Juventus have completed the signing of Neto on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Fiorentina.

The Bianconeri allowed reserve goalkeeper Marco Storari to join Cagliari on Thursday but wasted little time in acquiring a new understudy for current No.1 Gianluigi Buffon.

"Norberto Murara Neto has officially completed his move to Juventus, penning a four-year contract that keeps him with the club until June 30, 2019," read a statement released on the Italian champions' official website on Friday.

"The Brazilian goalkeeper, 25, joins following four-and-a-half seasons with Fiorentina where he displayed the credentials which have led the Bianconeri to recruit him as Gigi Buffon’s deputy."Neto joined Fiorentina from Atletico Paranaense in 2011 and established himself as the Viola's No.1 during the 2013-14 season.

The Selecao shot-stopper was dropped to the bench last season after deciding against signing a new contract with the club, but was restored to the starting line-up following an injury to Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Braida: Barcelona won't give up on Pogba

    paul-pogba-lionel-messi-juventus-barcelona_1xftbpvlu5y4e1i8l4bj4qizqv.jpg

Barcelona sporting director Ariedo Braida has revealed the club have no intention on giving up on signing Juventus ace Paul Pogba.

The Blaugrana made an €80 million offer for the France international, 22, after meeting with Bianconeri officials in Milan on Wednesday.

However, their bid was rejected, with Juve general manager Giuseppe Marotta claiming the Italian champions have no intention of selling their most-prized asset.
Braida, though, has intimated that Barcelona fully intend to test the Old Lady's resolve to hold on to Pogba by submitting a second offer after this month's presidential elections."My friend Marotta, whom I hold great affection for, officially turned down the offer that I made,” Braida told Sport Mediaset.

"However, we won't stop here. First, there are the club elections, and then we'll see about other moves."Braida's boss, Josep Maria Bartomeu, will bid for another term as Barca president on July 18.

Former Blaugrana supremo Joan Laporta, who is also running for election, has already labelled the failed attempt to land Pogba as "ridiculous" for making the Catalans "look bad".

'Chelsea the team to beat in Premier League' - Neville

    chelsea-cropped_1u6vi7fyhjuxk1rzeftfr4xwn6.jpg

Gary Neville says Chelsea are favourites for the Premier League title this season.

Jose Mourinho's side finished the previous campaign eight points clear of Manchester City to be crowned champions for the first time since 2010 and have since signed Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan.

Chelsea's rivals have been busy in the transfer market, with Petr Cech moving to Arsenal, Manchester United signing Memphis Depay and Liverpool making six new signings, including Roberto Firmino and Danny Ings.

However, Neville cannot see past Mourinho's men, though admits the transfer window could yet change matters with the season start still five weeks away.

"We're in July when teams haven't completed their business yet; that's something I think you've got to be very careful about at this stage," he told Sky Sports News.

"But as I stand here today, I think it would be very difficult to look to past Chelsea. However, who knows what is going to happen in the next month in terms of signings and how those signings will then come in and adapt.

"Things can always happen and you could look at a team in a month's time and think 'they're going to take some stopping with the people they've signed', we haven't seen the transfer market flush itself out yet.

"But certainly now, without the business having been done, you aren't as informed as you'd like to be, but Chelsea would be the team to beat and I think everyone would say that."

Diego Costa: It would be fantastic to have Arda at Chelsea

    1607472_heroa.jpg

Diego Costa is hoping to one day play alongside Arda Turan again amid reported interest from Chelsea in the Atletico Madrid man.

The 28-year-old Arda, who is set to leave the Vicente Calderon this summer, has already denied potential moves to Barcelona and Manchester United.

Costa won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and reached the Champions League final with the Turkey international while at the Vicente Calderon and feels the pair - along with Filipe Luis - could replicate their trophy-winning form at Stamford Bridge.

"It would be fantastic [to play alongside Arda again]," Costa told Bugun. "Arda makes everything so much easier out on the pitch. Arda, Filipe and I function perfectly.

"Arda is such a great person. He invited us to eat at his house many times; I really liked his kebab. The whole team would go round to his house for dinner."

Costa also spoke of his admiration for Blues boss Mourinho as the Premier League champions ready themselves for their title defence.

He added: "Mourinho dedicates himself completely to his work. He adores his job and immerses himself in it.

"At the moment the team is resting but I am sure he isn’t – he will be planning, doing things to improve the team. Mourinho makes things easier for the players.

"Simeone is still a relatively young coach and he always strives for the best; he always helps his players and he enjoys his job. Both of them have enjoyed success."

Bartomeu: I plan to sign Arda Turan

    arda-turan-atletico-madrid_mn2z9r6a7yyb1lu8l1nsz327u.jpg

Barcelona presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that he is planning to sign Atletico Madrid forward Arda Turan.

The Turkey international has already confirmed he plans to quit Atletico Madrid this summer and the Liga champions have emerged as heavy favourites for his signature.

The 28-year-old was forced to deny he had already signed a deal with Barca but Bartomeu, who is hoping to secure re-election this month, has revealed head coach Luis Enrique wants to sign him.

"He's a very good player, has real quality and perfectly marries what Luis Enrique wants for next season," Bartomeu told Esport3. "As such, as a candidate, I encourage the board to sign the player."In this way, next season, we'll have a team that will be very competitive and primed to win all possible titles."

Arda himself has further fuelled speculation that he could join the European champions after admitting that his footballing idol is already at the club."My idols? Emre Belozoglu, when he played at Galatasaray, but now it's Iniesta. He's from my era, but that doesn't matter. I have a lot of admiration for him."

The versatile attacking midfielder also admitted he likes watching Barca on TV - but not Real Madrid.

"When I don't have important things to do, and Barca are playing, I watch them on TV. Real Madrid - no! And I love Atletico, but I can't watch them as I'm playing."

Bacca: Milan one of the best in the world

    carlos-bacca-sevilla_16np28vyg5tu1sn8mz01fzsg3.jpg

Carlos Bacca says he cannot wait to start life with AC Milan, insisting the club remains "one of the best in the world".

The Colombia international's switch to San Siro was confirmed on Thursday, with the Rossoneri thought to have coughed up a sum close to the 28-year-old’s €30 million release clause.

The move brings to an end what Bacca has revealed was a two-month wait.
"I'm very happy to be moving to an important club, one of the best in the world," Bacca told Il Tiempo.

"I started talking to Milan about two months ago, but the decisive push forward was 10 days go. [Milan CEO] Adriano Galliani called and convinced me of their project."Recently, things haven't gone so well for them but they have a great project and lots of motivation. I cannot wait to wear the Milan shirt and give everything I have."

The former Club Brugge man, who hit 49 goals in 108 appearances for Sevilla as he helped the Andalusian side to back-to-back Europa League titles, says he is now focused on returning 18-time Italian champions Milan to the top of European football.

"Now I have a new objective in my career, which is to take Milan back where they belong. Contributing to that is great a motivation for me."I will arrive in Milan on July 20 because we leave for a tour of China on July 21. I am going to wear the number 70 shirt, as it was my first number and it always brought me luck."

Bacca will be joined at the club by Brazil international striker Luiz Adriano, who joined from Shakhtar Donetsk this week.

Podolski set for medical at Galatasaray

    762452_heroa.jpg

Galatasaray have confirmed they are in talks with Arsenal over a deal to sign Lukas Podolski, with the Germany international set to undergo a medical on Saturday.

Podolski has fallen out of favour under Arsene Wenger and spent the second half of last season on an unhappy loan spell with Inter.

His agent claims that the Gunners boss had wanted to keep him at the Emirates Stadium but only as a squad player and that was not enough for the 30-year-old.

A statement to the stock exchange read: "Formal negotiations have begun with Arsenal FC over the transfer of Lukas Josep Podolski, with the player to arrive in Istanbul [on Saturday] morning for medical checks at Istanbul Liv Hospital.

"The public will be informed of developments."

Podolski revealed on Wednesday his excitement at the prospect of a move to Turkey as a deal neared.

Pogba and Arda would be welcome at Barcelona, says Iniesta

    paul-pogba-juventus_l317vmdjr6bc17aigfzuswkk3.jpg

Arda Turan and Paul Pogba would be welcome additions to Barcelona, says Andres Iniesta.Barca have already seen an €80 million offer for Pogba rejected after a consortium met with Juventus officials in Italy this week.

Arda, meanwhile, is expected to leave Atletico Madrid this summer and Barca presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed that Luis Enrique wants to sign the Turkey international.

And Iniesta says both players would be welcome additions to the club as they look to mount another title challenge on all fronts next term.

"Pogba's a player that every great team wants to have. He's a young lad but with the talent and the strength for the best teams. If he comes and can be with us, he'll be well received," he said to reporters.

"He's a great player, a great talent with a lot of quality," he added of Arda. "If he ultimately comes, he'll be welcome, as any other team-mate would."
Iniesta also expressed his delight at Dani Alves' decision to sign a new contract and the arrival of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla."It's phenomenal that Dani will continue. I think he's one of the best signing in a long time," said the Spain star.

"Vidal's had a great season and he comes to a great team to keep improving."
Iniesta also believes Neymar will continue to learn as a player following his Copa America suspension for a post-match outburst at both players and the referee.

"I know more or less what happened, not in the dressing room but on the pitch. Ney takes a lot, sometimes it's difficult but he's learning. He's still young," he said.
Finally, the World Cup-winner from 2010 stated that Barca have every intention of going for a clean sweep of trophies in 2015-16 following their treble triumph in the past season.

"The six titles are an objective," he added. "Almost nobody thought we could win another treble, and almost no-one thinks we can win six titles because it's very difficult. But we have the players and the team to try to get it."

'He can be Liverpool’s main man' - Fowler urges Rodgers to sign Benteke

    christian-benteke-aston-villa_1hj3b9doi3ka8175gof5bqjwo6.jpg

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has urged manager Brendan Rodgers to pull out all the stops to sign Christian Benteke this summer, believing that the striker would be the perfect signing.

Following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona and with Daniel Sturridge struggling for form and fitness, the Reds had major problems in front of goal last season, with midfielder Steven Gerrard topping the scoring charts with just nine goals.

But Fowler feels that Benteke is the answer to Liverpool's striking woes and is convinced that he would be an ideal fit for the club's style of play.

"The striker issue is a big thing," he told the Liverpool Echo. "We didn't have anyone who scored 10 Premier League goals last year and I can't remember the last time that happened at Liverpool.

"It's important we get a proven goalscorer and, of the names being bandied about, I'd go for Benteke. I think he's excellent.

"I know there are other top strikers out there and probably more prolific scorers but in terms of all-round play - strength, speed, physicality, finishing - I think Benteke could be the main man for Liverpool.

"I think we cross more balls into the box than any club in the league and I think Christian says he feeds off crosses. There's no point going to a club where they don't cross the ball."

Andy Carroll famously flopped at Liverpool and was unable to gel with the philosophy that Rodgers implemented but Fowler is certain that Benteke is much more than a mere target man or battering ram.

"I've watched him a lot and he's not just a target man," he continued. "He can hold the ball well and bring others into play but he's also mobile and keeps defenders on their toes.

"Before he got his injury I was very impressed with him and I was hoping we would sign him then. He had a slow start after getting back fit but, under Tim Sherwood, his form was superb.

"I think he's ideal for the way Brendan wants to play. It's probably what we lacked at times last season. We had forwards who wanted to drop deep to get involved with the play and we always had that gap up front.

"With a Benteke type, you have someone who will stay up there and stretch defenders. If you have someone who stretches the defence and makes the pitch bigger there's a lot more space for the likes of [Roberto] Firmino, [Philippe] Coutinho and [Jordan] Henderson to run into."

:cool:Rojo: Van Gaal will bring back trophies to Manchester United

    marcos-rojo-manchester-united-cambridge-united-fa-cup-03022015_1ajox0cmptqnx1gwbrt27sevpk.jpg

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has no doubt that manager Louis van Gaal will bring back glory to Old Trafford.

After David Moyes's ill-fated succession of Sir Alex Ferguson, the Dutchman took over last summer and led the Red Devils back into the Champions League at the first time of asking.

His next goal is to secure United's first silverware since 2012-13 but Rojo, one of the boss' first signings at Old Trafford, has seen enough to be certain that it will come.

The Argentina international told the press: "Louis van Gaal will be successful at Manchester United. He will win trophies. For me, that's not even a question.

"From the first training session he took, we could tell he was a winner. He's very demanding. He's not only looking to improve the team but also looking to improve you as an individual – he made me a better player.

"Being demanding and asking a lot is a sign of a real winner and it will only be a short time before Manchester United are winning trophies again.

"When we're out socially he's a funny guy, always making jokes, but, when it comes to the success of the team, business is business. That's why he commands so much respect from his players."

Rojo also backed his club and international colleague, Angel Di Maria, to shine after a tough first season at United following his British-record transfer from Real Madrid.

"People forget Di Maria last season was adapting to a new league," the defender noted. "They just saw a big transfer fee and maybe didn't think about England being very different from Spain – it's a lot more physical.

"He's one of the best in the world and, on his day, can do things like [Lionel] Messi and [Cristiano] Ronaldo. That's the level he's on. I'm sure, this coming season, we will see very special things from him."

Dembele to hold talks over Tottenham future

    mousa-dembele-tottenham-hotspur_m45i7z0m44wn1auakr7nbddjv.jpg

Mousa Dembele has revealed that he will hold talks with Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino regarding his future at the club after being reduced to a bit-part role last season.

The Belgium international started just 10 Premier League matches in 2014-15, ousted from the starting XI by academy-graduate duo Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason.

And the 27-year-old will seek clarification over his importance in the upcoming campaign when he returns for pre-season training, believing that he is deserving of a bigger role.

"After my holidays, I will talk to the boss about my future at Spurs. We will see," he told the London Evening Stanard.

Speaking to Belgian publication Sporza, he added: "I've played so few minutes, it is a big disappointment to me.

"At one point I showed what I've got and I thought I took my chance but, as quickly again, I fell out of the team.

"Do I get little credit at Tottenham? Yes, I have that feeling at times, but it is ultimately down to me. I have to stay positive. I am still confident."

Sergio Ramos rivals Chelsea captain John Terry and Paris Saint-Germain's Thiago Silva as the best centre-back in the world, says Paul Clement.

The Real Madrid defender has reportedly been the subject of bids from Manchester United as they attempt to leverage the expected departure of goalkeeper David de Gea to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Clement, who was a coach at Madrid before taking over as Derby County manager this summer, says that Ramos compares favourably to almost anyone in his position.

"He is a wonderful player, one of the best I have ever worked with," Clement told Sky Sports. "[He has] so many qualities, [he is] a fantastic footballer, leader, competitor, athlete, a fantastic guy.

"He is one of the best centre-halves in the world - and I've worked with some good ones like John Terry, Thiago Silva at PSG, good ones in Pepe and Raphael Varane but Ramos is up there with the best I've worked with.

"Whether at Real Madrid or United, either club are going to massively benefit. Wherever he is, it's going to be a massive plus for that club."
