    Guys,

    I recently purchased a D-Link wireless router(DSL-2640U). I've configured it all right,
but the signal strength is very weak just 10 meters away from the router.

Ive checked the settings, everything looks fine...

Can any one help me on this.

i guess you could change the placement of ur router or add an external antenna to it.

antenna should be placed near a window or something, without thick wall. concrete/steel walls cut outs wifi signal very often.

if u have a specific plce u want to use wifi, u can use directional antenna(u can find many things about making one @ home by googling). but if u want it to be spreaded around evenly, best is omni directional antenna(similar to original one in ur router, but probably with a extendable wire so that u can place it near a window or something).

If u buying an antenna be sure to see its connector type.

Also gain ( dBi or dB rating) should be higher than the one u got originally.

BTW How much was the router ? and where did u buy it from ?

Through thick walls 10m sounds about right. Try to place it in a way that the path between your router and your other PC encounters as few walls as possible, maybe in an open area like a corridor or a balcony.

True ConcreteWalls and Glass cuts down by about 50-60% but it cannot change fm time to time. Watch out Dlink has some issues. Even their USB wireless dongle does not work well. So try another brand of router at the same place and check.
