before you start laughing at me, let me tell you i'm living with my parents in the house they built in the 80s.. so it's got an old school fuse box. yesterday the fuse for my room blew up, and i had a hell of a trouble just to locate the blown fuse, and had equal trouble trying to fix it..
so today i went to a hardware store and bought a set of MCBs. (ten of them + a box)

now somebody pls tell me how to replace the old fuses with the damn MCBs

specifically, how do i make a common Live rail for each of these MCBs?

don't tell me employee an electrician. I don't want stupid electricians. i want to do it myself:cool:

rep (පගාව) will be given for anybody coming up with useful advise. :P

this is exactly what i've been looking for. "Common bus bar segment" is this some part that i have to buy??

Yes If you buy the whole Mcb box it comes with it even you can buy it separately it comes as bars you can cut off desired length.. and if you willing to expand it in future its better to get 2/3 more mcbs with the box,

Say you have 8 old school fuses now so install a 10 mcb box with extra 2 mcbs without connecting. then you can use them if you need in future, its my way of doing.

If its a box like above its more than enough it comes with all protection so dont need to replace.

or if yours looks like following you can replace it with a modern plastic box with MCB panel.

how do you ask for it in the store? is there a sinhala name for it?
yeah we have 8 fuses. i bought 10 MCBs.
i was thinking of running a wire connecting one side of all MCBs and connecting it to live wire. but then i thought maybe there's a more elegant professional way of doing it.

i'll do according to your advise bro.

    Sure
*use the bus bars and do it as the diagram ask from the shop guy and he will give you all the items needed for mcb box. buy the colored wires as easy recognition red and blue. and for the earth always use the green.

*if you tend to forget, just label every wire with some stickers first when you disconnect it

*even if you dont have good ground, buy an good earthing copper rod and wire the ground with heavy wire.

Is it possible to replace the enclosure without removing MCBs and other things? I want to get rid of this ugly looking enclosure

Its possible you can replace front easily you have to buy matching modern enclosure, but if its dug into the wall may be you have to break the wall lil bit to fit the new one.

always its better for ask some technician around. They know some hacks too :D
