The work of engineers forms the link between scientific discoveries and their subsequent applications to human and business needs and quality of life.[1]
Nobody argues that software engineering doesn't exist. It's got to meet up to certain educational standards. That's all. Not every programmer, software developer or a software architect can be considered as a SE.The work of Software Engineers does not?
And as I mentioned, Software Engineering is listed under the Engineering branches. So we can say that is a fact.
So a guy works at google building frontend frameworks like Angular.... ok they are not Software EngineersAll details in the IESL web. Briefly if you do have a four year degree from a recognized institution included in the Washington Accord list then you can.
This argument about Software Engineering is going on for the last couple of decades in many countries. I am not going to start an argument all over again, but most of the guys who call them Software Engineers are not. They are programmers, software developers and on a level up are the software architects. Quite often persons with a MCSE call themselves SEs.
There are SEs, the real ones who builds things like in Avionics, Missles & Guidance systems. Instrumentation, Medical equipment etc. Engineers have to have a broader skill set. Programming is an implementation tool.
With half-baked degrees popping out everywhere it's hard to give recognition to everything just by looking at the title of the qualification.
You can call yourself with any fancy title....But the recognition from a professional body is different. So a guy works at google building frontend frameworks like Angular.... ok they are not Software Engineers
I am also a Software Engineer in a reputed company in Sri Lanka. So I guess I have the right to answer for this. Yes I agree ,you need to have an Engineering degree to get an IESL membership, but your knowledge on 'Software Engineer' definition is very narrow

Professional qualifications are not assessed by what's listed in Wackypedia.
washington accord nadda ekeමම කෝල් කලා, Peradeniya and Moratuwa විතරලු දෙන්නෙ
මට තියෙන්නෙ foreign degree එකක්... University of Plymouth වල, ඒකට බෑලු මචන්
so washington accord is a madeup getaway lie made up by IESL to enjoy eliteness ?IESL consist of SL university graduates so they want to create a micro elite club.. same as gmoa's hate on the construction of any private medi unis
the underline problem is IT professionals in SL have no association or at least a club to standout from others.. ex.. BCS in UK
if they have such association then easily can apply for loans and all those facilities which IESL enjoy..
normal software professional makes lot more money than a typical IESL member. just need a proper association to get the privileges.
