I think their problem is to maintain not being too mainstream nor too alternative, but they fail obviously. Maybe their record label is pushing them to be more commercialize. (Did you heard/listened Evanescence's new record? it sounded mainstream too) Maybe one day they'll be like Avril Lavigne.

dude, both bands are effing mainstream, and nobody's pushing linkin park, they just love the dough, I don't blame them though but evanescence is still yummy and nope, didn't have a chance to listen to their new album.
evanescence music should not be labeled alt rock, cos they make mainstream rock.

I thought rock suppose to be alternative from other mainstream acts (Maybe I got it all wrong, then again I don't know much about sub genres of rock).
I'll agree about Evanescence's mainstream if you say so.

I don't know much about it either, but from what I know, when grunge rock was immensely popular (Nirvana, Pearl Jam) there was another sort of rock they called alternative rock, which wasn't as much popular. now the grunge is dead, alt rock is the popular type, so it should be recorrected to mainstream rock, bands like Linking Park or Ev do get a lot of airtime and MTV play, which makes them rightfully mainstream. not to forget utter crap like nickelback.

Doom metal is new to me, only heard some Black Sabbath songs (they do doom metal right?).
