I just don't get why people blame the US for almost everything. Maybe it's a way of getting out of the hot seat. The US is against terrorism, And because of this, most of the US citizens hate President Bush. So the politicians should use their brains and take this as an oppurtunity to come up with some sort of peace arrangement.

And with our forces bombading there captured areas, it will also help in putting more pressure on the LTTE.

And whats this comparison between SL and Singapore? I just don't get it.

As Srilankan if you want to go to jaffna from Colombo u have to go to omathei check point and we have to take approval from LTTE and we have pay tax to LTTE and that area control by LTTE police …….

So is this u say unitary state??

None of the Sri Lankan Tamils belive in your statement.

But I must agree with what you said. . It's better to deal with a weak opponent. But now that we gained some of our captured territory, It's better to start some sort peace agreement.(cus now that we've shown that we are capable of war). Now they are in the hot seat. So it's a good time to take some diplomatic action.

I really don't get why people would have different country histories, though they are living in the same country. You can't really say a country belongs to the people who lived there first. Then america belongs to RED indians.

Many groups of people came to this country because it was in the center of some trading route. But really you can't get evidence from stories like Ramayana. Many people might have come from india because its pretty close. But in the end the main language was sinhala. You coudn't even rule the country if you were'nt sinhala.

Well.. It's true that nobody wants war! But its also true that there is so much burden the people would take before they really had enough of it?? I mean 25 years!!! Man.... that’s a lot.... its the silver jubilee now for this war!!!

In the past, maybe Sinhalese politicians might have done things that lead to discrimination of Tamil people, but a 25 old war is definitely not the answer. And I'm talking from experience that I have seen Tamil people around the world living in environments even though there are lot of discrimination for them. in an environments where the Tamil students apply for IT courses in govt. universities but they only get Agriculture, why this problem only in SL???

I see few reasons, our country has a Buddhist culture so by nature we tent to give freedom (Buddhism taught how to be democratic long before it was invented), and our politicians are very weak, whole politics SUCKS! for that matter! Tamils must understand that they live in a country where more than 70% is Sinhalese Buddhists and any country works for majority NOT for minority that's the way it is, whether you like it or not! Only thing they can do is to adopt to it, they have done it in rest of the world.. so why not in Sri Lanka??

And as for LTTE.. F**K them.. They are not Tamil people's savior, they are some blood & power thirsty lunatics head by the Praba the "Dick head"!!! I stand by govt. decision to attack, and pls this time DONT STOP!!! until they put down their arms.

I have Tamil friends, I treat them as my buddys because we respect each others differences.. I'm sure all of us can do that, but by hurting the MAJORITY of a country wont help anybodies cause!

Well.. I gotta say that some who contributed to this thread have come to certain idea of comparing Singapore and Sri Lanka.. Actually this is very funny!

Its true that Singapore is technologically advanced than Sri Lanka and regarded as the technology hub of Asia Pacific, but that's all to it....

When you talk about Sri Lanka, The history of Sri Lanka it self goes beyond 5000 years (lately they have proven that Mr.Paranawithana was wrong, real age of Sri Lankan history is over 5000 years), if you wanna compare Sri Lanka, this puts our nation par with civilizations such as Rome, Egypt etc..!!!

Remember this........ Sri Lanka can one day become Singapore but Singapore can never become Sri Lanka, simply because time doesn’t travel backwards to give them the history and rich culture that we have!

Singapore's billboards maybe in Tamil and its probably their official language.. and that's because their president is Tamil, which is not the case in Sri Lanka, Let me give a tip for people who wondering how to tell a nation's mother tongue and their official languages... Turn to their national anthems in which language the national anthem, that is the official language of that country!

And Mr.mayooresan you say you dont believe "Mahavamsa"? Let me tell you something... Mahavamsa says a King named Dutugamunu was here and in his time Ruwanmali Maha Saya was constructed, and it is indeed there if haven’t noticed !!! so what the book says is already exist! so please don’t question about the history of Sinhalese people or Sri Lanka!! Because it looks Stupid when a graduate from Kelaniya talks like that..instead use your knowledge to investigate "How did Hanuman bought a piece of Himalaya all by himself "

And one more thing, if you question about how free the Tamils in Sri Lanka look no further than yourself..
