මචන් මම මේක ලියන්නේ ලොකු කණගාටුවක් එක්ක ලංකාවේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්‍රමය පිළිබදව....

මම දැනට ලංකාවේ ලොකුම රජයේ විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයක Engineering Bsc Degree එකක් කරනවා 3rd Year. මම මචන් Mechanical Engineering කරන්නේ. මම Mechanical Engineering කරන්න තෝරගත්තේ ආසාවකට හෙම නෙවේ බං. මට ලකුණු නැති නිසා වෙන Option එකක් තිබ්බ නැති නිසා. මම පොඩි කාලෙ ඉදන් ආස කරේ Software Engineering පැත්තෙන් ඉස්සරහට යන්න. Campus එක ඇතුලෙ ලොකු තරගයක් තියෙනවා. ඒ නිසා හැමෝම තමන් කැමති Field එකට යන්න බැරි වෙනවා. ඒත් බං එහෙම කියලා මගේ Software පැත්තෙන් ඉස්සරහට යන හීනේ නවත්තන්න පුලුවන්ද බං...!

මම හිතාගෙන ඉන්නේ BSc එක ඉවර කරලා Software Engineering පැත්තෙන් MSc එක කරන්න. මට මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් දන්න අය පොඩ්ඩක් කියන්න පුලුවන්ද මට MSc එක කරන්න කොච්චර කාලයක් යනවද? මම MSc එක ගත්තට පස්සේ මගේ Recognition එක අලුතින් Passout වෙන එකෙක්ට වඩා අඩුයිද? මට එහෙම MSc එකක් තියෙනවනම් WS02, VIRTUSA වගේ IT companies වල වැඩ කරන්න පුලුවන් වෙයිද?

මචන් අන්තිමට උඹලට අහන්න තියෙන්නේ මම මේ කරන්න හදන්නේ බොරු වැඩක්ද? මම අකමැත්තෙන්ම Mechanical පැත්තෙන් Job එකක් ජීවිත කාලෙම කරන්නද? නැත්නම් අවුරුදු දෙක තුනක පරක්කුවක් තියාගෙන මේ MSc එක කරන්නද? මම ලොකු ප්‍රශ්නෙක ඉන්නේ බං. ගෙදර මිනිස්සුන්ට කිව්වම එයාලට ලොකු වැටහීමකුත් නෑ. මම වගේ මෙහෙම වෙනස් Field එකකින් MSc එක කරලා ඒ පැත්තෙන් Job එකක් කරන අය ගැන විස්තර දන්නවද?

Thawa Robotics/Mechatronic paththata yannath puluwan, Balapn ubalage final year projects, image processing, control theory wage hena scope ekak thiyanawa mechanical wala. Just come out of restricted thinking. Everything depends on your ability. I personally know of SriLankan Mechanical Engineers who hold Professorships in IT in overseas Universities. Also I know of guys who hold an Engineering Degree and also an MD.
I should add that I have seen some Mechanical engineers who doesn't know how to change a car brake pad.
Get your primary degree first. Then look at alternatives.

I assume you are from Mora Mech!
And almost everything you have stated is correct but do not worry, as it was suggested by other EK members you can learn more on Robotics, and when you are choosing an FYP, make sure it has its fair share of coding, meanwhile build your knowledge on programming.
Follow online courses, do small coding projects, Share those on your LinkedIn profile. Participate in coding competitions. ENTC, Trical guys are getting selected as Software Engineers every year without any prior knowledge on coding (Most of them only have irregular, self-learned programming knowledge), there is no reason to say no to a mechanical Engineer by IT companies.

And the surprise is, I know a Tech Lead from WSO2, who is from Mora Material Engineering Department!!

Stop bitching and start working, life is not fair, Complete 1 Coursera course within this month, create a Lynda account as per that method suggested in another thread. Build up a killing LinkedIn profile and show the recruiters who you are.

You have many options actually and here are some facts also.

• As long as you can nail the interviews, Degrees doesn't matter. HR people will simply ask why you do IT with this degree. That is the only place anybody care about your degree. As long as it is a degree in STEMS you are good.
• Mechanical side has very good IT combination, Intelligent agents and Robotics is a good side. These days field is boomed because of all the autonomous vehicles and Deep leaning models for drones and stuff. Try out that side to get advantage of your degree as well.
• Don't wait till you finish your Masters. That will cost you another 3 years in life (2 years with all these things happening + application time its going to be 3 years)
• I would do a professional qualification like BCS PGD just to get qualified professionalize and learn knowledge while doing degree. So by end of your degree you have both.
• Just after you start your work , do your MSC. Experience value more than advance degrees. so dont let one go over other.

උඹ IT පැත්තට කැමති නම් හොඳම සීන් එක තමයි Mechanical degree එකත් එක්ක UCSC BIT එක හරි BCS හරි අදින එක. එතකොට උඹට mechanical knowledge එකත් එක්ක mechatronics, IoT වගේ පැති හොඳට ගොඩ දාගන්න පුළුවන්.

ඔය M.Sc idea එකනං එච්චරම හොඳ අයිඩියා එකක් විදිහට මම දකින්නේ නෑ. ඕනේ හෙල්ප් එකක් ඉල්ලපං. පුළුවන් විදිහට දෙන්නම්.
