Nope. Sure ATI is a bit late, but architecture wise R600 and G80 are comparable. G81 will be just a small improvement over G80 (like GF7800 vs GF7900).

65nm = better power consumption and cooler operation

I can only see two differences: Core clock speed has improved, and they have moved to GDDR4 (still doesn't make it faster because the clock speed is the same - but will lower the power consumption)

Pretty much similar to AthlonX2 90nm 4800+ and 65nm 5400+. Not like AthlonX2 4800+ and Core2Duo 6600.
