In Australia, part-time PhD programs are generally available only to citizens and permanent residents, not international students. I was pursuing a PhD in the IT field in Australia but had to withdraw because of serious issues with my supervision.

In my opinion, a PhD may not be worthwhile for many professionals in the IT industry. It may help someone secure a research engineer position at a major technology company, including a FAANG company, but the stress, pressure, and significant time commitment may outweigh the potential benefits. This is based on my personal experience, and others may have different perspectives.
It's simple. If you want to go into industry, don't ever bother doing a PhD. It's not an industry qualification unless you've developed a new algorithm or made a new invention, which is rare. If you do a PhD in CS or IT, don't bother trying to go into industry. Just apply for grants and do research as a researcher. The industry will eventually chase you when you're in the spotlight because of your years of research.

A PhD is a PhD, my dude. Even in Sri Lankan state universities, completing one is an absolute test of endurance. You need to publish at least four peer-reviewed papers, which is no joke.
The real issue lies entirely with resources. I’ve seen state universities running PhD programs without basic access to Elsevier or IEEE, and that’s just the start. Complete lack of proper lab equipment and zero access to the latest research makes it extremely difficult for students. They have to build and facilitate the entire infrastructure themselves. This is the fundamental reason why we suffers in university rankings.

I've seen a huge spike in PhDs in Gov campuses in the recent years. You hardly had any in past graduations, but now it's growing. With this I think underlying infra issues will get fixed eventually.

If you've ever done a PhD, you'll never ridicule one. (Well apart from Honorary ones ). At the end it's never about which University you've earned it. It's simply, how fellow scholars value your research and the impact it made ✌️

in reality the country and the university matter IMO. not every place has the same analytical tools, lab gear or PIs with the right expertise. so the (PhD) research output becomes relative to the resources you have. the students effort may be the same, but the environment directly affects what kind of work is even possible..

Industry fund

Nah bro. Just asked a genuine question. I was thinking about doing a phd. Guess I have to do more research on what to do.
if you are in academic, research field doing is Phd is good qualification for the job.
But in sri lanka in industries research kind of jobs are very rare and most of them are gov jobs 🤪

    Thanks machanla.
