Hey Son I'm not advising u to have sex with ur 17yrs GF.
But I have no rights to stop you.
So I can give some advice for safe of both of u.
Do not use any contraceptive pills in this young age, becoz it will effect on her future life and gives some problems when expecting a child.

For Couples like u the best is CONDOMS

I am talking abt the hymen man...
when it goes no need to worry put the IUD..
Read the post and answer man...

Well mate... Would you mind if I ask what your qualifications are to talk about these stuff?

Because from the information you're posting you are giving some false information as I can see...

As far as I can see nayk sis and paalugama bro are giving reliable information, but your information doesn't make any sense. (And by the way they speak, I can clearly see that they have some connection with Medicine)

You're talking about the hymen with an IUD? :S For what?
Do you think hymen is a layer which blocks the entry to vagina?
AFAIK, hymen is only a wall tissue layer. And it does not block the way into vagina. (There can be imperforated hymens, but rare I think)

    normal_hymen.jpg

What Nayk and paalugama told makes perfect sense and I was expecting that answer from them. Since the womb is small before a pregnancy, and the opening from the vagina into the womb (Cervix) is also too small it is hard to insert an IUD.

So that's why medical professionals 'recommend' using IUDs only after child birth.

But yes. It is possible to insert it.
C'mon, if people can have sex when they're 17, why can't they insert an IUD

  • Actually this was a good thread where most youngsters having misbelieves

But this thread has lot of mis interpretations and facts which may harm if got in to laymen's mind

Using Postinor after unprotected intercause: yes its for that purpose but should not be using every time when one had an unprotected intercause repeated use may harm the body so prevention is the best & use condoms, OCPs etc

    Gynaecosin:
Prohibited in SL & side effects are high & its not registered here due to some other obviuos facts what I really dont want to tell

Intra uterine device is not intended for prevention of pregnancy after unprotected sex yet about within, lets say somewhere around 72 hrs if inserted it may prevent pregnancy

( actually u can not guarentee upto 5 days as one said in this thread. but cannot argue NO as its not medically proven).

Actually its a long term contraceptive option works for years and should never use as a measure to prevent pregnancy following unprotected sex

damaging condom is a very rare:
nop! its not VERY rare but its rare

One quote says "heard abt the failure rate of condoms,,But nowadays there are lot of new quality brands available brand in sri lanka" Every ,contraceptive methode has its own failure rates nothing is 100% complete, but OCPs, IUDs( & permenent methods ie: sterilisations; Vasectomy, Tubectomy) being best & Condoms & natural tecniques being lowest

One said that the (IUD)device should covered by an anti bacterial agent beforeuse. Its completely wrong and u should not apply anything on IUCD (as it comes in a sterile pack) but u have to take sterile precausions and u have to clean the genital areas( im not going in to detail k?)

Also ectopic pregnancy is not a major side effect in this IUCD thing but ectopics ( pregnancy in areas other than womb) do occur.

common side effects would be changes in bleeding patterns ( menstruation), cramps during periods
another post said "AFAIK, IUDs (copper) reacts with sperm cell wall and the eggs cell wall which prevents them from generating an embryo... " The actuall reason is, no one knows how IUD works there are many Theories but non have been proven!
what most popular is it may prevent from implanting an embryo or change the speeds of sperm/egg( ovum) moves other thing is why IUD not recommended in women who had not had given a birth to child: there is no Hard no but best avoided as it is difficult to insert it ( if u damage ther cervix-entry place- u may do a harm than a good) and its difficult to retain within the womb than in women who hv given birth to at least one child! so failure rate is high(and this method is used for long term purposes as well).

So in SL as a policy non will recommend IUCT for nulliparous!

"OCP ( eg mithuri) normally for elderly women" completely wrong & it can use at any age and its the best for young pple ( So I wont Comment on the age 17yrs old girl then!- as there is an ethical problem with it)) who want to postpone their first pregnancy & its easily reversible than IUD , Implants etc! & IT is a treatment for menstrual irregularities!

No problem to use it while taking antibiotic ( rearly the effectiveness of antibiotic may varied due to OCP)
One said "in private sector IUCD uses for nulliparous!"
So what? Private sector is all about money- most of the time, but not always and not all the people -Using IUCD in nulliparous is not cost effective and not even applicable at all! as IUCD intended for years long protection & no women should delay their pregnancies if they are in best of their age ( usually in 20.s is the bestK?)

BTW this is not to hurt anybody but jus to correct some facts
    :) :) :)

mind what u publish in EK!
they are not used by elderly:shocked:
OCP is the contraceptive recommended to delay the first child for newly married couples!can be used even if unmarried!

they do not cause menstrual irregularities:shocked:
in fact thy are used to rugularize the cycles of women with irregular cycles!!!
they can be taken with antibiotics!!
problem is certain antibiotics can increase the metabolsim of OCP and the effect is lost!!!
so in such situations got to use second method like condom! or use a pill with higher strength!!![/quote]

this is the thing u a totaly lost...
The long term usage and short term usage of OCP is different..
In this post I wouldnt try to do deep..
but u enforce me to do so...
normaly main side effect of OCP is menstrual irragulation. ( see BNF if u know.)
menstural irragulaties and the menstural disturbances are diferent terms..

The short term use of OCP use for menstural disturbances..
    Long termly use for contraception.

Ha ha ha there is mixed up in this quote order neda? U'r qoute is shown as Nayk and nayks quote shown as yours :baffled: :baffled: :baffled: :baffled: :baffled:

it seems you are lost in lot of facts & she ( I suppose) is correct bro!
OCP per say is best for young people though not contra indicated in elders ( Child bearing age)!
one thing is correct there is "long term & short term use"
& u originally use the word menstruall irragularies( Go & see ur thread) so for irregularities OCP uses as a treatment & main side effect is not menstruall irregularities ( as u say dear pl see the above mention book)

Other thing is the antibiotics which disturb the OCP action is not that commonly use. effect is not very common & marked k?

& now Im stopping respondig to this as other Ek members may get bored!

many people in this totaly lost understanding abt menstural system...
read this if u like bro...
    OCP blocks ovulation.
thus the lining of the uterus, stays fairly thin and the monthly production of the pain-inducing prostaglandins reduced.
    Then the girls feels no
menstrual pain. thats how OCP effect the menstural cycle..
Occasionally a combination of the OCP and an anti–prostaglandin is necessary to inducerelief of menstrual pain in severely affected women.
anti–prostaglandin mean use of anti inflamatory agent which block the production of prostaglandins which cause the pain.
So the thing u a talking is correct the OCP use for menstural disturbances.
when there is no mence there is no pain at all..
In this OCP combine wit NSAIDS and give.
The guys has the problem with the drug (OCP) that use menstrual disturbances and it is also caused menstrual irregularities.
That problem is OK guys. Ur clue is ok.
Because there is a theory behined that ...
OCP stops the orvilation by changing the hormonal level. then the hormones could not act in the wall of the Uteres ( not in detail.)
The the birth couldnt happen because the wall of the uteres is not ready for that..
By doign this long term by braking the hormonal system of the body is cause
menstrual cycle irregularities. this happen when the OCP stops. Because the body dependence to OCP.
When using OCP there is no menstrual irregularities. because there is no mense. when it stops the body may couldnt tolerate the hormonal level that given by externaly (by OCP ) so then automatically there may be a menstrual irregularities can happen.
I hope u can understand this.
sry if I used to much medical term that cannot understand normal people.
