Need to start off by de-politicizing first. This is the only wrong thing I see with SAITM.

Face it. Nothing is non political. The state owns the capital and it controls the people. behind every sugar coated system there is a political arm which controls it. unless you have the capital or power the only way to over come this is by knowledge and performance, that is where competition matters. the world is knowledge centric, the performer will win and the other will lose.

In another few years the SAITM grads will be armed with some good overseas post grad qualifications and will become top class consultants, and will work for worlds top medical research institutes or hospitals.

While,

most of the GOVT Uni doctors will settle with their MBBS for the life time, will not do any post grad studies, will not get updated with the latest developments in medicine. They will open a small PP place in a town, will treat ppl for minor sicknesses with the same prescription for abt 500/=, Will get the God's level respect from 'Anthare' class Sinhalese, and will live and die like that.

While,

'Anthare' assholes will block the streets till they go old asking the govt to give them jobs, maybe a SAITM doctor will do their postmortem the day they die as poor, worthless men who has not done any good to the world.

There is no doubt about the fact that the best are from the State universities may it be Medicine or Engineering.

That being said I am totally for Private Education- but should be carried out pertaining to proper guidelines with transparency.

A child who had been admitted to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for treatment of a swelling on her right knee, had had her left knee operated on instead, it was reported yesterday. A doctor had examined her and decided to operate on her on March 1. The specialist who examined her had afterwards gone abroad on a training course and another doctor had performed the operation. When the child was discharged from hospital her father had found that the left knee had been operated on and not the right -- which was still swollen.

They will be assesed regularly for the quality along with Gov doctors. So nobody is left behind.

actually the intern process or clinical training process is the same for govt uni and SAITM students. they will be assessed the same way.

Any idiot with a brain that has the money to spend and has no interest in learning in a governemnt uni or doesn't have the privillage to do so, will(I say must) choose an overseas uni for the degree. (I'd say even if you're qualified to study here, go abroad) The only bunch that'll stay at SAITM as I think is the lazy and the ones without any ambition.

They might have their own reasons to stay here, we never know.

If they are lazy with no ambition, they will fail the exams, practicals and will never get their MBBS. Simple as that.

Since some are bitching about ACT16

Students (Graduates) of SAITM were not allowed to sit for ACT16 exams because SLMC did not accept their degree as a Valid one. (Though all the SAITM grads were requesting SLMC to let them sit for an unbiased ACT16 exam after their graduation) This was one main point highlighted on the Appeal.

But from today SLMC must allow all the SAITM Grads to sit for ACT16 without any restrictions.

If someone can pass ACT16 (Which even a considerable number of local med students fail) after a MBBS or an MD from anywhere in the world, i do not see any issue with letting them to practice.
