Sri Lanka youth beat England to take 2-0 lead
Richmond college skipper Dhananjaya de Silva top scored with 79 as Sri Lanka Under 19 thashed England Under 19 by 137 runs in the second Youth ODI at Colts Ground today to take a 2-0 lead.
De Silva scored ten boundaries and a six off just 59 balls to lift the total to 325 for 6 after the Sri Lankan top order had put the team on a firm footing.
England in reply were dismissed for 188.
After Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, opener Ramith Rambukwella blasted a whirlwind 66 off just 39 balls with eight boundaries and four sixes as he shared a 100 run opening stand in 13.2 overs with Shehan Jayasuriya.
Jayasuriya who made 71 off 103 balls with eight boundaries, shared a further 66 runs for the second wicket with skipper Bhanuka Rajapakse.
Rajapakse who scored 42, produced a fine all round performance when he removed both openers Sam Wood and Daniel Bell-Drummond with score on 34 to strike early blows from which England failed to recover.
Ateeq Javid who scored 61 was the top scorer for the visitors while left arm spinner Amila Aponso from St. Sebastian’s destroyed the England innings taking 4 for 25 in 8.4 overs.
Rajapakse had figures of 2 for 23 off 7.
