ado awesome story machan... but i think as guys before have told, BNS should be emphasized way more than that. Cuz in my belief what Sri Lankan music is today is because of what BNS dared to do. They are the people who revolutionized the music arena and paved way for the likes of Iraj, Centigradz, Ranidu etc. and I also think that Rukantha Goonathilake is also a very important link in this timeline. he was the earliest to break free from the stereotypical music in sri lanka at that time and create a sound of his own.
anyhow Great post brother! keep it up! :D

dude..bathiya santhush or anybody that followed them didn't do anything unique..they just ripped off lots of foreign and local artists and formed their own shit :) do you think that's doing something of their own? sri lankan music did have something of its own until those two ruined it.... and wut you said about sinhala music being stereotypical before that is just pure irony cos its totally the other way around.

well everyone is entitled to their own opinion aight? True that they've copied and all, but that's something that you can see even in the seventies. Many of the songs those days were not copied as they are from hindi movie songs and some of the lyrics of those songs match the sound of the words in the hindi songs to a great extent. So you can't exactly point the finger at BnS or ones who followed them. True there might be copies here and there, but if you take their hit singles, except for wasanthaye and siri sangabodhi all the others have been their own unique productions. And if they do lack talent and ruin music as you say why would music greats like hari haran and asha bosle would even bother making songs with them? Even maestros such as Master Premasiri Kemada and Pandith Amaradeva acknowledged the talent and the music of BnS.
There's no way of ruining music brother. The way we feel music can differ from one person to another. To a thrash metal fan, eminem's music can be a piece of crap. but that does not necessarily mean that eminem's music is crap. So please do not discriminate or condemn musicians and demean their music just because you don't like them.
And yes i believe that sinhala music at the time rookantha was emerging was a bit stereotypical. cuz the classic people were just sticking to their raghadhari style which they burrowed from India and the clarence followers were sticking to their style. No one was trying to make a difference. If u take rookantha's music it completely deviates from the styles at that time and also involves a little bit of technology up to a certain limit in his songs.
whether you like it or not these two profiles (BnS and rookantha) have been significant in creating the Sri Lankan music to what it is today. The stage performance, the use of technology in creating music, introduction of rap, reggae, pop music cultures are just of these individuals achievements. It would be nice to see people looking at these people with a more open minded perspective.

and Ranga Dassanayake also shouldn't be forgotten. He contribution towards the sound engineering, music production and mixing area in Sri Lanka is just enormous. Tremendously talented person who was also responsible for changing the music styles of sl along side with BnS! :D

so you first said their music was unique and I objected saying that its not unique to which, to a considerable extent you agreed... and on the way to that point, how did we end up talking about seventies cinema music? I wasn't praising them at all nor was I degrading the music BnS or any other made.. I Just simply said it ruined Sl music and you did agree that it was my personal opinion to which im entitled and im pretty sure im not only one who has that opinion. I just simply don't see wuts so great about those two.

and to answer your question about their endless collaberations, they make music for mass audience..its no wonder they have incredibly good production value if that's only wut counts and ok lets say they did have some talent i have no problem with that but anybody that followed them do? dude they can't sing live for shit they all just go on making silly songs with utterly cliched lyrics..for an example take iraj..do you not agree that every song he produced or wutever has the same tune and some batshit insane lyrics with no real value wutsoever ..same goes for groups like centigradz ..i dont follow any of those closely to give you any constructive comment yet I'm talking outa my experience as a citizen here who happen to catch their shit on popular media....we can't turn on tv anymore to find kapuge or malini bulathsinhala on it ..its just iraj or bns masquarading themselves infront of entire nation(this is wut i meant by saying that they ruined music, foprgive me for beign nostalgic.) ...and again another reason why they aren't doing anything unique is that they are just following mtv hits and their song structures that just pisses me off ..when we heard a sinhala song before it had its sri lankan signature all over ..but lets evolve eh? lets get along with the world and mainstream music of america.

and I don't deny every sorta music except for the one I dig ..Id acknowlede the quality of it if rap or thrash metal had any.

I've no problem with it if you and your friends can enjoy them and you are content with it..it's your life and your choice just let me say that they suck when i think they suck :)

i want to add here some more , beside all amaradeva/ nanda malaini / rookantha the hippop range in late 90's were originally introduced by B n s oya den inna Irajla/ Centigardez /chinthy/chilly okkoma awe eeta passe ... lanka music video field eke wenasak kale B n S . egollo kepuwa paare thama anik aya giye .. enisa me ada thiyena trend eke sindu ethatama eliyata awe B n S hinda ..... and special thnx to Sirasa , ada lankawe hema TV channel/ radio channel ekakma sirasata bena bena sirasa copy karanwa ....

our generation is not the majority of sl ..and that is not the change many people expected :) the generation before us hate radio do you wonder why...if there should be a change that should be a into something better  I'd agree with nobody else been able to do something better ..so BnS took their chances and succeeded in doing something for good or bad.
