looks like they still don't fix that cable problem .
First of the days they said that this issue is a internal backbone issue in their
system. But after they said that this is a backbone failure in this tear1 service providers.

anyway let me ask a one question ? They are taking a const bill from their customers but their customers don't get the bandwidth due to a problem that
customers are not responsible for. Then I asked about that question from
    1243 and they just said
" This is a problem that all island is experiencing "
So , let me say that I know that , and I not need to hear about it. What I saying is give the conneection speed we'll pay money.

anyway they can't give back the time and the money loss of their customers back. So that is unethical to charge to these days also.

Well.. I just heard from news. Theres a undersea cable problem and they have sent a submarine to repair it. Heard that in USA their net connections are completely down. even in Canada, conns are always interrupting. India is more affected than sl. As I heard, they even cant make telephone calls!

hope it will be over soon.

Rukshan, I think i have posted a message regarding this

There is no direct relationship between the quality of Broadband internet and the ISP's International Backbone capacity / Bandwidth. Broadband internet is based on shared BW conecpt. ISPs use a contention ratio to limit the broadband usage. Say if SLT uses 1:50 "Contention Ratio: for broadband, 1M international BW is sgared among 50 number of 1M customers or 25 number of 2M customers ( 1M*50 or 2M*25 ). in practical , if 1:50 contention ratio is used 10,000 customers of 512Kbps(0.5M) will be allowed to use maximum of 100Mbps international BW ( 1:50 == 100: 0.5M*10000 ). The assumption behind this business model is, all customers are not going to use the internet simultaneously and with full capacity. Therefore SLT / Dialog / any ISP is not going to give you their full international BW to broadband customers. They will throttle the usage according to the contention ratio ( ex 100M) that they have. So comparing the international backbone capacity won't be the measure of quality. AT&T , Sprint, Verizon etc have terrabits of capacity. Only thing that affect the quality is the international network path. If an ISP has multiple direct connectivity with other world class ISPs ( Called Tier 1 ISPs), their internet quality will be good. SLT has STM1(~155M)/STM4(~620M) level connectivity to USA, Italy, UK, Singapore and Honkong. Simillarly Dialog has direct STM1 (155Mbps) connectivity with Tier 1 ISPs like Sprint (UK) , France Telekom, Verizon - Europe, Verizon - Asia, Cable and Wireless , Datahop (UK), Telekom Malysia,. The total international BW is closer to 1Gbps. Other Srilankan ISPs have only one international connectivity. The quality of the international path can be checked by "ping / traceroute" commandsin the windows / Linux machine ( ex ping www.yahoo.com) . When i compare the ping latency result of SLT and Dialog for some destinations, dialog shows better results. Only difference is SLT uses wireline to connect customers and Dialog uses wireless links. Therefore lastmile delay ( ISP to Cutomer) is ~20ms for SLT and 40-60ms for Dialog's Wimax. We should check the quality of both ISPs before sharing our comments. I can share my test results here. It is pointless to say , SLT is good snce it has 3GBps backbone.

yes International BW is not the main one, but there is an effect. :)
you have discussed about the ping test. ok refer these pages, what you can say?
    http://www.dialogblogs.com/2008/11/h...s-open-thread/
    http://sinhala.kalingasblog.com/2008...-m3-borodband/
from these sites, most of dialog HSPA users are not satisfying with ping, speed test results. I think you better share your experiance with speed test and ping test here.
    Thanks for your valuable comments.

DID ANY ONE KNOWS THAT SLT PROVIDE THE TOTAL GLOBAL CONNECTIVITY TO SRI LANKA ???
    http://www.slt.lk/gb/index.htm

ANY ONE KNOWS THAT SLT IS PROVIDING THE INTERNET CONNECTIVITY TO ALL
    INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDERS????
WANT MORE INFORMATION?? CHECK OUT THE LINK !!!!!!!!

    http://www.slt.lk/data/aboutslt/news_pg.asp?newsID=451&archive=Y&selectedYear=2008
"Solutions to ISPs - Many of the major ISP operators in Sri Lanka obtain Domestic Internet Exchange Services (SLTIX) to provide interconnection of ISPs to smoothen internet traffic, comprising of LankaCom, Suntel, Ceylinco Internet, Dialog Telekom, Eureka, LankaBell and the Dialog Broadband Network."

ANY ONE KNOWS THAT I HAVE A

    http://<a href="http://www.speedtest.net"><img src="http://www.speedtest.net/result/376132939.png"></a>

409 KBPS I AM SATISFIED WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!! BECAUSE I GOT THE 512 KPBS PACKAGE
SO NOT ANY OF THE SERVICE PROVIDER CAN NOT HAVE MORE THAN SLT SPEED BECAUSE THEY ARE DEPEND ON SLT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SLT IS THE BEST INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ISPs are interconnected in a common point ( Called Internet Exchange - IX) to exchange their local traffic. LISPA IX ( Lanka Internet Service Provider's Association - IX) is authorised by TRC to provide such service in Srilanka. LISPA IX is located in lankacom premises. In addition to that, few ISPs have direct link with some other local ISPs for exchanging their own local traffic. ( Eg: Dialog - SLT direct peering link is used when a dialog customer accessing slt.lk and vice versa. Other ISPs use LISPA IX for the same purpose. This connectivity is not used for any international traffic.

But there are some cases, a local ISP provide international access to another local ISP. This service is called "transit service". Eg SLT provides to lankacom, Dialog to Tigo, Lankacom to Tigo etc.

But most of the Lankan ISPs have direct connectivity with other international ISPs for international traffic

    Lankacom - Singtel
    Suntel - VSNL Lanka
    Tigo - Lankacom, Dialog
Dialog - France Telecom, Sprint UK, Verizon Europe, Verizon Asia, Cable and Wireless, Telekom Malaysia, Datahop UK. Intelsat ( Satellite) , Newskies ( Sarellite)

Slt - Deutsche Telecom. NTT, Bharti BT ( India)

Therefore, don't think that SLT provides internet connectivity to all other local ISPs.

SLT calls that direct peering with other ISPs ( for local traffic) as SLT IX ( SLT Internet Exchange) and invites other ISPs to connect directly with them. Both ISPs ( SLT and the other local ISP) share 50:50 cost of these local peering links. Dialog - SLT has such links while many other ISPs use LISPA IX for echanging local traffic.
