    there's gotta be a major short circuit inside the PSU in the AC section.(prolly a blown filter capacitor is the cause). the spark you saw i think was the result of the fuse blowing in response to the short circuit.

    so wutz d solution??:rolleyes::rolleyes:

    pretty simple.
    open it up, replace all the faulty caps and replace the fuse. that'll do:yes::yes:
    you might also need to check the switching transistors (typically these are FETs ) and the diodes in the bridge network..

    in my understanding, AL physics knowledge is more than adequate for a simple repair job like this.., and prolly will cost less than 100 rupees for the replacement parts..

    careful! there's a big 'ol cap in there that can give u quite a shock! its better to replace the psu (remember to get a good quality one. if possible, brand new. pcs run on electricity, the psu controls this electricity, therefore the overall reliablilty of the pc depends largely on the psu :) )

    yeah but its a shame to spend 1000+ bucks for something that needs only a Rs. 100 fix don't you think?
    i think the rule of thumb should be to see whether it's salvageable first, and if not, only go for a new one:yes::yes:
