Lord Buddha spent most of his life in India, but where does his teachings prevail today?

According to 2001 census not even 1% of Indians are Buddhists!

Very good point... Thanks for isolating it...
I have been a buddhist like others for 34 years and started practicng after that. These two lives before and after are totally different.
Having Buddha's teaching with you and practicing are entirely different.
Dhamma dhara and Dhammavihari are different.
If we do not practice Buddha's Dhamma we can excel any other national who practice same because we have a Buddhist base. But if we do not practice Dhamma we are second to any who follow any other accepted religion.
Preserving a serum and drinking it makes the difference.
I know the difference by my own experience.

sorry i know very little Buddhism to argue with..:)

No need to argue... That is not a subject I would try to prove. Not appropriate.. It is only for seekers.
And your statement clarify the base of the faliure of the whole nation.
You are the one who organized the Wesak Competition and you confess that you don't know... What about others.
You try to talk about programming oneself without learning the programming language. In this case you can't hire one.
Another important point... you don't have to learn much to practice Satipatthana... but some self discipline is needed... That is not available in Sri Lankan minds.

Indians live according to their religions much more than us. The way to develop pragna (Satipatthana-Vipassana) is only available in Buddha dhamma. I other religions only Seela Samadhi is there. That smadhi also is not Samma samadhi.
One who has pragna has the ability to see something in relation to the whole. So a proper buddhist who practices Smma sati-Samma Samadhi practically can excel others easilly.
If he does not practice he is easily can go astray than people who follow other religions. They are made to follow their religions by rules. In Buddhist culture one should follow self desciplin. Otherwise he is lost.
If we should excel than ourselves we have to purify our minds and make our minds aware... No other way to develop ourselves will work unless you clear your hard disk and delete all the junk.

Oh yaa, they live according to the religion and burn the newly wed wife if the dowry is not enough........... should be at the edge of samadhi?

But those who follow the religion because of rules does that out of fear of god. it never help them to go to heaven they believe in nor the enlightnment we believe in. Therefore the freedom we have in buddhism is priceles. It gives us a choice to be smeone, it doesn't make us but show the path and never brain wash.

Those things doesn't matter to me.
What matters is
how to purify my mind
according to his technique
and the benefits I enjoy by doing that.
Thats where My Buddha live...
in the area I got cleared up with his way of life.
