Suggest some best ways to improve tourism in Sri Lanka

Here are my suggestions

Expand katunayaka airport and make it a transit hub

Introduce 24 hour tour packages for those who come on transit

Introduce a proper shuttle bus service from airport to Colombo

Introduce a ferry service between tourism related towns and cities

Monetize unused islands of Sri Lanka

A 2 year visit visa for those from European countries..

Remove /regulate all the beach boys in hikka..

Recruit english speaking policeman to tourit areas.

Encourage night life. More venues etc

True, Sri Lanka is blessed with nature. These days tourists visit Sri Lanka to see Sri Lankan culture , historical ruins, mountains , wildlife and beaches. It would be a better idea if the tourism industry could build new tourist attractions instead of relying always on nature. We always try to take credit when we see Sri Lanka getting listed as one of the top 10 ten destinations for tourism in foreign magazines. The actual credit should go to nature. Look at the public transport system of Sri Lanka. I don't think any tourist can navigate it easily in an easy way. You need to facilitate tourists and build infrastructure for them if you want to make money from them.

witch part is not correct? i am not talking about reaching the level of USA or Luxemburg. that is another level of entertainment. SL has all the natural wonders world need. problem is no comfort start from people arriving here machan. if we can solve this basic thing the business back to normal. the you can talk about improving it

We are actually talking about improving tourism here. On your previous post you said several things wrong. Some Sri Lankan people think Sri Lanka got all kind of climate you can find in this world. This is not true. Also when you see how much we earn from tourism compared to some asian countries in south east asia i can say Sri Lanka got a long way to go. Please take a look at the link i pasted in my previous post to get an idea. Even south east Asian countries have tropical weather , beautiful beaches , mountains , ancient ruins , wildlife, tastey food, forests , tribes , diversed culture , elephants and city life.

• දැනට ලංකාවෙ hotels බුක් කරන හැම online travel agent කෙනෙක්ම ලංකාවෙන් එලියෙ අය. ඉතින් හැම reservation එකකින්ම 18%ක් රටෙන් එලියට යනව. රට ඇතුලෙම හදපු සයිට් එකක් තියනවනන් අපිට ලංකාවට ඇවිල්ල දාන bookings (Last minute reservations) වලින් ටිකක් හරි වත් commission එකක් ලංකාවෙන් එලියට යන්න දෙන්නැතුව තියාගන්න පුලුවන්. (මේකෙනන් හැබැයි practically අවුල් ටිකකුත් තියනව)

Building a efficient inter provincial coach service(at least through the cultural triangle) would be a new idea, especially made for tourists who can not manage to travel by local transportation.

As we mentioned, I've lotta reviews posted by tourist about their experience in here.
I have noticed that nobody mentioned anything 'man made or some experiences providing by locals.
This would be a good opportunity for new startups perhaps. In the beginning they have no competition at all.

Yes you're right! They should learn to innovate new things and develop new tourism related attractions. They're just being over confident thinking they're the best when they actually got a long way to go. They became the best because mother nature blessed them with beautiful nature. Being the best doesn't mean earning the highest revenue from tourism. Other Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia generate more revenue than Sri Lanka from tourism industry. Sri Lanka should learn to increase its tourism revenue by being innovative and starting new tourism related startups.
