    my view

it depends on what are you lookin from the car.

good AE110 usually goes beyond 1.6 million and soluna will be little less.for 1.4 million you would be able to buy a junk E110.
FB 14 also match with soluna price.

Soluna and AE110 share most of the common parts.
    as far as i concern,
manufacture standards are same for both.
only soluna is little rare here.

fuel consumption may not show much difference in both models.
usually the marked fir the Toyota cars are artificial.
    here's the reason...
in sri lanka most of the cars are used by businessmens .
most of them are non educated idiots except few executive level vise men. ,and they consider that buying a car is also an investment so they can save some bcks after 10 -15 years by selling it back.
so they don't care about safety, made year or anything.
just the Toyota name.you might know that registration year is more important than the make year for them.

so ignore the comments from that idiots.
    consider your average running cost.
for any Japanese vehicles there are some regulations to follow, so all the cars are on same stranded.
Mazda, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi too.

so basically all the car standards are same.
buy one according to your expectations and do calculation before.

i'll give you an example hoe i decided my first car.

i wanted to by a car made after 2000-2001
so at that time these were the options i considered.

    Toyota 121- 3.0million
    Mazda familia -2.2 million
    Peugeot 406 - 1.5 million
    Mitsubishi galant - 1.6million

all were petrol cars and i did calculate my average
my maximum monthly average was 1000kms,

    FUEL CONSUMPTION AVERAGE VALUES WERE

    121- 14kmpl
    406 - 10kmpl
    galant - 10kmpl
    familia -12 kmpl

so if we calculate the petrol cost
    toyota = 138/14= 9.8
    galant = 138/10 = 13.8

So i had to pay 4 rupee excess for each KM in Galant.
that means excess 4000 rupees per month.and maintenance cost is almost same for both, service, oil, tyres,

but i,m paying additional 1.5million rupees for Toyota.
i had plan to use the car for five years.

so my excess fuel cost was 4000*12*5 years= 240000 =2.40laks

    so i bought the Galant.
with added features over Toyota (ABS,unique nice look, uncommon model than Toyota, and 1.5 million rupee saved)

i banked that 2.5laks for excess fuel and invested that remaining 12.5 laks in share market
bought LHCL-lanka hospitals @32 rupee and after a few months there was a huge rally and share went to 112Rs. but i sold it around 70Rs and simply i doubled the value of that money.

anyway i invested that money again in a trusted company which probably double the value at some point in this five years.
    so i'll have 50 lax.

plus if i sell the galant for 10 lax after 5 years

i have 6 million in cash.

i'm pretty sure that toyota won't go beyond 3 million ofter 5 years as new cars are coming into market, and people are moving towards a brand new car.imagine the price will not fall and hold @3million.

just wanted to share my experience with you.

    so my simple advice is,
don't ask about cars from garage people as they are uneducated idiots.
those who promote Toyota just do it beacuse others do.
    so you research,and you decide.
    its finally your car.

    think i helped you.
    think differently brother..................

i think it's good to have idiots controlling the market, as anyway the people those who know will anyway buy good brands, and then we can get that @a low price as those rich people change their cars in few years.

one of my friend bought BMW 320D - 2003 diesel model few months back, well ,maintained car below 3million , with all the glamour, safety, all electronic gizmos, full service history from agents with a single owner.
    (well cheaper than corolla 121 x grage-2002-2003 )

    THANKS ...

I got a lot from u , Chan 5 special thanks goes for u. By the way still I am wondering that those AE 110 300- & 301- and FB 14 are little older. Manufactured around 96-99. But Soluna is from 2000 up wards. So I am considering this factor...But I know Soluna doesnt hav a good 2nd Mkt. So what shall I do?

    sorry brother ,
i can give you facts, but i can't give you decisions. it's your duty..
so i'll explain in this way.
what i want to say is,
go for the car with latest make year.
a single year also make a huge difference..

what do you want from the car as 1st requrement.?
    for me it's safety.

toyota AE100 or FB15 doesn't know anything about euro-ncap safty ratings.

don't expect to get profit from a car, try to have safe journey.

finally , you don't think as others do. be a different man. as we think about cars, most of the sri lankan people are idiots who are willing to pay millions to 15-20 year old cars?

i have been in general hospital accident service and usually what i have noticed is the injury is serious with old cars.irrespective the brand.

so still you have an idea about old toyota or old nissan, think in this way.

your girlfriend and mother and you with your kid travel in your ancient toyota. meet with an accident at 60kmph.
    you wiil die,
wife will loose her both legs and your child may loose whole world.
    be in a new car,
you may come out with minor scratches and few no injuries.

"WILL SAY NO TO OLD CARS"

    see this for further explanation

This test wasn't meant to prove that renaut is better then volvo.
It was meant to prove that new cars are safer then old ones.
Also, Euroncap doesn't crashtest cars at 80 mph.
so what i'm finally want to say is,
why do we change our decisions by this bloody second hand market.
it's like others changing our life.
and if you can give me any reason why anybody should pay more for old car from the same manufacturer, unless we are idiots.

    safety further

as i talked aout car safety , here are some explanations what modern cars have

    ABS,TRACTION CONTROL,EBD

    electronic stability control

    crumple zones in modern automobiles

    airbag explanation

    Euro Ncap

so what i can finally say is, go for the car with latest manufacture year,
in safety view, MICRO PANDA(Euro Ncap rating 5)is generations ahead of old AE110.

if you still want that Japanese badge, at least go for the latest possible .
    all the best brother

Both are good. I think Soluna closely matches with AE110 over reliability and economy. Thing is 110 is highly marketed in SL (and over priced)

Go for a car that really catches your mind and don't try to get ROI so much from a car (Return on Investment). I got blasted from my relations for buying a Lancer instead of buying a common Toyota like others (corolla etc) where Mitsu is something I enjoy a lot and really worth for the price I pay.

But again it all depends on your taste and usage level.

    well said bro.. :yes::yes:
when i said peugeot 406 for 1.6, 80% asked me to buy japz cz of fuel and spares. But you will never find a japz like that for 1.6
