Since ibus-m17n and m17n-db are fully up to date, the underlying files are already present on your system.
If Sinhala still isn't showing up in
Settings, GNOME is either filtering out extra input sources or IBus hasn't refreshed its layout cache.
Here is how to resolve it:
1. Unhide Extra Input Sources
GNOME hides specialized m17n layouts by default. Enable all sources by running this command in your terminal:
Bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.input-sources show-all-sources true
2. Restart IBus and GNOME Shell
Force IBus to clear its cache and rescan installed engines:
Bash
ibus restart
(If you are on an X11 desktop session, press Alt + F2, type r, and press Enter to restart the desktop interface).
3. Add the Layout from Settings
- Open Settings > Keyboard.
- Under Input Sources, click + (Add Source).
- Click the three vertical dots (or search bar) at the bottom to expand full search results.
- Type Sinhala.
- You should now see the (m17n) options (such as Sinhala (wijesekera (m17n)) or Sinhala (phonetic (m17n))).
