    Rathnapura

    Mapanana Ella Falls

This is the sixth tallest fall in the island with an estimated height of 150m (483ft), close to Rathnapura.

This majestic yet mystic waterfall plunges amidst thick scrub to the south of Adam's peak (Sripada), fed by Elle Oya, a tributary of Maskelliya Oya.

There is a good motorable road (better with a Jeep) up to the stream and from there walk up along the stream about 150m would bring you to this giant.

    Dehena Ella Falls

This is along the country road (good motorable road) from Rathnapura to Alupolla. It is a 40m (131ft) tall.

The fall is just by the side of road and a good site for bathing. The bath in the pool just beneath the fall is a memorable event but there is a danger of drowning and BE CAREFUL.!!!!

    Alupolla Ella Falls

This is made up of three parts and the total height is about 60m (200ft).

When we arrived there, it had faced a drought but the beauty of the place forced us to have a bath...an icy cold bath in the later part of the evening....

It is situated at the end of the road to Alupolla and there is a small yet clean tea boutique where we had a nice hot plain-tea after the icy bath.

    Belihul Oya

    Surathalee Ella Falls

This 20m (66ft) water fall can be seen 8km off Belihul Oya along the A-4 trunk road.

The fall can be seen as a long stream running down along an angled rock rather than a fall.

The word "Surathalee" means as charming as a playful mistress.......exactly suits the purpose.!!!

    Bambarakanda Ella Falls

The tallest in the island. It is 263m (863ft) in height and flowing from the Horton planes. The stream is always of this size, but the beauty rests on the fact that the whole stream moves to and fro by the very strong winds blowing across...... a scenario worth the 5km ride (there is a good motorable road up to the fall) off main road A-4. The road is narrow and has to be droved carefully.
