I second this, don't use any kind of mass gainers. Take Whey protein as a supplement not as a meal. Only thing you can do to gain muscle mass is to eat a bit more and do strength training.
You want to gain muscle weight not so much fat. If you just focus on gaining weight then just eat and do nothing. You will gain loads of weight and most of that weight will be fat. So if you want to do it correctly don't eat like a fucking idiot and consume extra 1000-1500 calories like most of Sri Lankan Gymkanas. Just eat a bit more like maximum 500 calories and make sure most of that you eat is protein and fat. I am speaking from my experience.
