well, ended up doing Debian -> Ubuntu directly instead.
Had to jump through some hoops but its working fine now.

Its definitely something not recommended to do but since my dvd writer is busted, I dont have a choice in the matter. I cant backup and clean install so had to do it that way.

hikis NEED a diff taste ha.. me too. i'm planning to switch to gentoo . waiting for hv da DVD (No DLs 4 a dialup ne) Wish me

the main problem for me with ubuntu is that theres no good enough media player for GNOME desktop amarok is for KDE ne i dont like KDE much i checkout almost all of the players but still i didnt find anything like foobar2000! if you know pls tell

I'd say not to do that. Gentoo builds packages on demand. Having a good net connection is the best way to go with Gentoo.

Rythembox gets the job done pretty well for me. Though my personal preference is good old MPlayer.

amarok can be run in Gnome (didn't chekd but heard so)

Yeah, but it will install the KDE libs as well.

yea but interface is messed up a bit in gnome amarok didnt replace foobar2000 it has good music quality but music management is a work around

i tried that too but failed to install an equalizer plugin i didnt found one

same here. its enough for our simple needs sch as podcasts,Pirith, and sm movies. but most of others need more.anyway. i gt sm bad exp with rithembox. MPlayer/VLC works 4 me

you right I need to customize the music up some people just prefer the eq flat they dont need an eq but people like me need one there was one player written in python it worked very well but music management is still in the same spot

well, then you can stream out the playlist with rythembox and run it through VLC and use the EQ in VLC!

i'd rather run winamp or foobar on WINE,
too bad winamp depends on Direct Show too much if not for that it can support videos in WINE too ..but we can install DX in WINE too right? i never tried that! gotta try
