Why do you need an expensive mobo for gaming?
Just get a fast VGA and a cheap mobo which OCs well, with an OCable CPU :P

Nvidia nForce is very popular. you should have a good SLI capable motherboard to play games with SLI. and number of slots are important. onboard sound option is also important. some mobos doesn't support CPU with higher bus speed, ex - 1333MHz.
