Why do you need an expensive mobo for gaming?
Just get a fast VGA and a cheap mobo which OCs well, with an OCable CPU :P

agreed, MBoards dont show a much difference unless you compare a 5k mboard with a 50k one hehe

but if dad can afford, cant help ...... go get em.

Thread starter:
why you havent listed MSI ? adooo msi is da best (coz i own a one lol....)
Highend msi products are good

MSI p45D3 platinum (p45 chipset)

Most of the features are integral parts of the chipset, so the motherboard manufacturer can't be credited for those.

I believe the quality of a motherboard can be determined by;
1. how far the motherboard can overclock stably (cooling, power regulation, stability of the clockgen etc.)
2. how stable the motherboard is with a vast variety of hardware
3. non-chipset integral components, such as I/O device support, 3rd party addon chips
4. ease of installing the board as well as installing other components (unlike VGA not allowing RAM to be removed, good layout, obstruction for installing a 3rd party heatsink etc.)
5. driver and BIOS support
and more...

AFAIK, MSI doesn't really fair well with the first point.

Many people bought the A8V when it came out; before the new line of Asus boards started becoming a huge problem. The biggest problem with Asus boards these days is that they're finicky. They will only take certain RAM from certain companies, they fail with certain hard disks, other drives, etc. but what really sets them apart is that the number of 'incompatible' parts is larger than other boards and is, judging by the amound of 'Asus Board Problem' posts, is still growing. Do yourself and Asus a favour and buy an MSI. What do I mean by doing Asus a favour? Maybe by us boycotting their products will they realize the boards they are releasing are crap and perhaps they will start producing real motherboards that they can be proud of, before they ruined their reputation with quantity, not quality.]]

It's is like Windows vs Mac. More people use it; more bugs get uncovered. At least everything is resolved after few BIOS updates.

I'm gonna have to say that Asus is superior when it comes to functionality and specs.
Besides Asus boards are known to be more tolerant towards overclocking.
Nvidia and MSI are close runner-ups.

Check the Asus Maximus review..

Keep in mind though that there's no point having just a top notch mobo.
You need equally high-end hardware to complement it!!

lol @ 2 phase power design. do you know some heavy duty overclocking boards have 8 phase power supplies (correction...12)? out of all these, only the X-Fi card is worth it. others are normal specs. but don't forget Asus also has their sound cards and they ship them with their flasgship mobos.

Too bad nVidia doesn't make any boards :P

And there is always a point having a mediocre board but super duper hardware, because,
1. same mobo + better hardware gives performance
2. same hardware but newer, better and fancy mobo will not give any performance improvement (for the money) unless you are going from a non-overclocking board to an overclocking board. but video performance will be increase in either case.

Over the years, MSI has been known for developing award-winning mainboards. Thanks to its professional staff, highly effective management and outstanding R&D team. Two of MSI’s greatest achievements include the Dual CoreCell Chip and Dual CoreCenter for future digital home, which resulted in making MSI mainboards the favorite choice among major media professionals all over the world. Furthermore, cinema aficionados will be able to resist the latest MSI mainboards featuring Creative Audigy and X-Fi hardware audio support. The Creative hardware audio is great on DVD, HD video and gaming audio experience, incomparable surround sound capability, leading to a fantastic crisper sound with real environment simulations. Each MSI mainboard is thoughtfully designed to meet the demands of our loyal patrons and new customers as well. Because of its superior stability and system security, MSI mainboards have long established a very strong branding position in a niche market. Moreover, MSI mainboards have become one of the top recommended brands in the customer segment.

Like I already said, those are nothing worth mentioning even, except the X-Fi card support, but only a couple of boards give an X-Fi.
