I actually own both the Xiaomi Sound Party and a JBL Charge, so I'm speaking from hands-on experience here. People saying the Charge 5 sounds 'better' are confusing loud projection with actual audio quality. Here is you're actually hearing: First, the JBL sound signature artificially boosts the upper-mids to make EDM and electric guitars pop. It sounds aggressive, but it's not true to the original mix. If you listen closely (or watch comparison tests), you’ll actually hear the mids on the JBL distorting because of this. Second is the bass. JBL gives you a very strong 'thumping' mid-bass (around 80-160Hz). It kicks hard, but it's not quality deep bass. When I got the Xiaomi, the difference was obvious. The Sound Party gives you that true, deep 'rumble.' It literally vibrated my pillow and blanket on its default setting. It has that deep sub-bass extension you usually only get from a 50W speaker like the Onyx 8, which is incredibly impressive since the Xiaomi doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer. There's a reason for this: outdoor speakers like the JBL are tuned to project. Real, deep rumbling sub-bass dissipates instantly in open air, so JBL artificially spikes that mid-bass 'kick' just so you can hear it outside. Bottom line: If you just want a loud, aggressive 'thud' for the beach, the JBL does its job. But if you care about true low-end rumble, depth, and actual fidelity to the original track inside a room, the Xiaomi wins hands down. Honestly, I bough the Sound Party purely because of its futuristic design, and the Harman Tunned tag, its the best of both world, but of course at this price tag, the build quality when tears down, the bluetooth chipsets is actually not as good as the JBLs. I thinks those designed at Xiaomi had a hard time cutting cost for this product. Its a shame Xiaomi usually remembered as a cheap-brand, hence its very hard for them to sell any product at high price. I think the Sound Party had the most innovative design in the 50W this year, and if it had been JBL or Harman, this beautiful speaker could have costed 4-5 times at least.
