Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate Announced For PS3 And 360

    debutx610.jpg

The long standing tradition of releasing an updated version of a fighting game around a year later continues with Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja's latest, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate.

Headed to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, Ultimate incorporates the new features of March's Dead or Alive 5 Plus on Vita and new stages and fighters. The first announced new character is Momiji (seen above on the right). While she hasn't appeared in the DOA series before, Ninja Gaiden fans will be plenty familiar with her. No pricing information is available yet, but we'd be surprised if cost the full $60 for an update of an older game.

EA Will Not License Gun Images, Battlefield Not 'Impacted In Any Way'

    karkland610.jpg

As we near E3 and the possible reveal of Battlefield 4 multiplayer, EA has stated that it won't be repeating a past public relations mistake. According to an interview with Reuters, the publisher will not be licensing trademarks from gun manufacturers.

For those concerned about a diminished experience with Battlefield 4, EA has provided assurances that nothing will change. According to an EA spokesperson, "Medal of Honor: Warfighter was the only EA game that used licensed gun images. There are currently no titles in development on the Medal of Honor franchise. No other franchise is impacted in any way."

The difference between guns in Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Battlefield is the use of brands. The latter features the likeness of a number of different weapons, but does not attribute any to a specific maker. The 1911 type handgun for example, is made by a number of manufacturers. Using the image of that style of weapon does not require a license (and never has).

However, in Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Vickers Tactical created a 1911 specifically for EA. In the multiplayer mode, in which the weapon appears, the firearm is labeled in menus and loadouts as "Vickers 1911."

It is unlikely that firearm manufacturers will object, but another segment of the defense industry has taken issue with EA's approach. Bell Helicopter has sued the publisher stating that their aircraft featured in Battlefield 3 constitutes trademark infringement. EA has counter-sued to settle. That trial is scheduled for next month.

EA Signs Exclusive Publishing Deal With Disney For Star Wars Games

    Skywalker%20610.jpg

If only Star Wars Day hadn't been over the weekend, the symmetry would have been beautiful. Disney and EA have just announced an exclusive, multi-year deal that puts the publisher at the helm of new Star Wars titles for the "core gaming audience."

The arrangement, which was just announced, covers all platforms and the "most popular" game genres. Disney has not ceded all rights, retaining control to create new games for online, social, and mobile audiences. This explains the cancelation of Star Wars 1313 (which we had hoped might be reversed), the rumored Xbox Live Arcade Battlefront title, and more.

Capcom expects Lost Planet 3 and Resi Revelations to sell 1.2 million

Capcom expects Lost Planet 3, due out 30th August in Europe, to sell 1.2 million copies. The figure was nestled in a forward-looking document concerned with the year ahead - a compliment to yesterday's annual how-we-did paper.Capcom also revealed that it wants Resident Evil Revelations, due out 24th May in Europe, to shift 1.2 million units as well.

Modest forecasts, but there are higher hopes for gangbusters series Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter 4 on 3DS, which Capcom believes will shift a meaty 4 million units this summer in Japan and other Asian countries alone.

Wolfenstein: The New Order won't have multiplayer

Wolfenstein: The New Order will be an exclusively single-player experience, developer MachineGames revealed to GameSpot. This makes it the first non-mobile Wolfenstein game to not have multiplayer in over two decades. Multiplayer was introduced to the series in 2001's Return to Castle Wolfenstein and was featured in later titles such as 2003's Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and 2009's Wolfenstein.

So why no multiplayer this time? The Q4 2013 release sounds early in the next gen's launch, so is it being rushed out as a launch title or is there more to the story? Maybe it's a much more narrative-focused game. That might sound unlikely given its blockheaded source material, but the ex-Starbreeze staff at MachineGames managed to spin an a surprisingly engaging yarn out of the forgetable Riddick license. Plus multiplayer was never really Starbreeze's forte anyway.

"Anyone who had the misfortune to try the online gameplay for The Darkness will know that this is not an area where Starbreeze has traditionally excelled," said Dan Whitehead in his The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena review where he added, "The multiplayer feels as though it was included through obligation rather than inspiration, and contributes little of value."
