    Internacional hint at Damiao sale

    245531_heroa.jpg

The Brazilian club's chief has admitted he will be powerless to prevent the striker from leaving if they receive a bid that matches their valuation of the player
Internacional president Giovanni Luigi has admitted that "everything has its price" after Napoli were the latest side linked with a move for Leandro Damiao.

Speculation has suggested the Brazil international could move to Stadio San Paolo in recent weeks, with Inter sporting director Luis Cesar Souto recently confirming the club had laughed off an €18 million approach for the striker from the Italian giants.

And, speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Luigi is standing firm on the forward's €25m price-tag, but admitted a sale could be sanctioned if Inter's terms are met.

He said: "Is Leandro Damiao on the market? Well, in life everything has its price.

"We received an offer from Napoli, it’s true, but not directly. Damiao’s manager Vinicius Prates told us they are prepared to invest €18m.

"However, that is not enough and we do not intend to give discounts. Our player is worth €25m, not a penny less, and if Napoli want him then he’s going to cost €25m.

"We’re here and ready to talk."

The 23-year-old has previously been linked with a move to Premier League side Tottenham, with his current deal running until 2017.

    Valencia complete Romeu loan deal

    223573_heroa.jpg

The 21-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge for two years but after an injury-hit campaign under Rafa Benitez, moves to the Mestalla to work with Miroslav Djukic in La Liga Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has joined Liga side Valencia on a season-long loan.

The former Barcelona youngster appeared nine times for the Blues last year before injury disrupted the second half of his campaign.

New manager Jose Mourinho has already signed Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel, while adding veteran goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, as he continues to shape the Blues squad to his liking.

Romeu was signed by Andre Villas-Boas in the summer of 2011 and has made 33 appearances in two seasons, scoring one goal.

He will become new Valencia manager Miroslav Djukic's third signing of the summer, joining Javi Fuego and Michel at the Mestalla.

Rodgers fighting to keep Suarez at Liverpool

    257448_heroa.jpg

The Reds boss is determined to keep hold of the Uruguay international and says he is in "constant communication" with the controversial striker while he is away on holiday Brendan Rodgers has revealed he is in regular contact with wantaway Luis Suarez as he steps up his bid to persuade the controversial striker to remain at Liverpool.

The Uruguay international informed the Reds of his desire to leave Anfield this summer, with Arsenal preparing a €40 million bid.

However, Rodgers does not want to sell the 26-year-old and is determined to keep him at Anfield ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign.

"At the moment he’s on a break, we’re in constant communication," Rodgers told talkSPORT. "He’s got three years left on his contract, we don’t want to sell him. We think we can put up a real fight next season.

"I spoke to Luis, of course over the last few months, there have been a lot of speculation over his situation, the fact remains the same we value the player, he had a terrific season for us last year, and showed us his quality."

Suarez received a 10-match domestic ban for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season, while the previous campaign he received an eight-game suspension for racial abuse.

But Rodgers has insisted that despite his various controversies, Suarez is a top player and is committed to Liverpool.

"That’s something we’ve stressed, what he did was wrong at the end of last season," he added. "That’s the bottom line you can’t do that on the football pitch, but we’ve moved on from that.

"He’s a real competitor, he’s a winner, he wants Liverpool to do well, he wants to be working at the real high level."

Tottenham must keep Bale to continue improving, says Dawson

    242426_heroa.jpg

The captain remains positive about breaking into the top four despite last season’s disappointments and feels the addition of Paulinho is a great statement to rival teams Michael Dawson believes the signing of Paulinho has made Tottenham a stronger outfit but has outlined the need to keep Gareth Bale in order to secure Champions League football.

The 29-year old says Spurs have got to "earn the right" to finish in the top four and signings like Brazil international is a step forward, but last season's 26-goal hero is key to their continuing progression.

"We had a great squad already, and keeping Gareth is massive," Dawson told The Guardian. "A little bit of tweaking and strengthening, and we'll have improved again. Now we have to earn the right to finish in the top four.

"The signing of Paulinho over the weekend was a big statement. I saw him in the Confederations Cup this summer and he'd been strongly linked with various clubs, so it's nice for us to get our hands on him.

"I've been lucky enough to play with some top players here, like Michael Carrick, Dimitar Berbatov and Luka Modric, and seen them move on.

"So to keep hold of Gareth, a world-class player who had such an incredible season last year, while also bringing others in will only stand us in good stead."

Tottenham finished fifth last season, losing out on Europe’s top prize to Arsenal on the final day of the campaign despite a record points haul of 72.

It was the second season running that their rivals had produced a late-season surge to pip Spurs to fourth, and Dawson has underlined the importance to learn from past mistakes.

"There's no hiding that the end of last season was a massive disappointment," said Dawson. “I'm always positive going into a new campaign. What Arsenal did in the run-in last year was amazing.

“We have to learn from what happened, where one or two bad results ended up costing us, but also keep doing what we were doing last year, performing well on a regular basis, getting points when the going is tough, and playing that football with the same style."

Villa will be an instant hit at Atletico, says Luis

    291968_heroa.jpg

The Brazilian defender feels the Spain international is the perfect replacement for Radamel Falcao and is determined for the club to build on last season's success
Atletico Madrid full-back Filipe Luis has voiced his delight at the arrival of David Villa from Barcelona ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

The 31-year-old joined Atletico for an initial transfer fee of €2.1 million, potentially rising to €5.1m if he sees out his three-year deal, and Luis is confident Villa still has plenty to offer as a replacement for Radamel Falcao, who left the club for Monaco.

"I think he's a great signing, and the correct choice, not just because of everything he represents for Spanish football, but because he won't need to adapt, he scores 15 or 20 goals a season," the defender told reporters.

"He has been scoring goals in this league for many years now and, most importantly, he still has that hunger, which is what this team needs if we are to keep growing and competing.

"Of course Falcao and Villa are different players. Villa plays all over the pitch and is very good at finding space.

"Last year Diego Costa played that way and it worked very well for us. I'm sure he'll come here determined to succeed."

Atletico enjoyed a stellar campaign last season, lifting the Copa del Rey in Madrid after clinching third spot in La Liga, and Luis is confident the side can be even more successful in 2013-14.

"This team can keep growing and can give even more," he continued. "I won't place any limits on the team or myself.

"We're going to grow, the team and I are both going to try even harder it wouldn't surprise me if we improved on what we achieved last season."

Atletico kick off the new season with the two-legged Supercopa de Espana tie against Barcelona.

Reina must accept Mignolet rivalry - Rodgers

    251014_heroa.jpg

The Anfield boss is pleased with the competition for places, especially in the goalkeeping department, but feels Andy Carroll’s departure has benefited Luiz Suarez Brendan Rodgers says creating competition for places is key to Liverpool’s summer plans and feels Simon Mignolet's arrivals will improve Pepe Reina’s performances.

Mignolet moved to Anfield from Sunderland for a reported £9 million fee in June before outlining his ambition to usurp the current No.1 - who has missed just 20 league games in eight seasons.

"That was the idea for the summer [competition for places]," Rodgers told talkSPORT.

"Our recruitment team did a brilliant job when we sat down at the end of the last season on where we can strengthen the squad and build that competition in the group. We were very thin in the group last year.”

"Simon Mignolet's been a top keeper for the last few seasons now in the Premier League and Pepe Reina's been here for a number of years and been an outstanding keeper but in every position on the field there has to be competition to push people's performances."

Rodgers, although, has no regrets regarding the departure of Andy Carroll to West Ham, insisting his now-permanent departure has aided Luis Suarez's attacking output.

"That was a decision that needed to be made,” he said. "Luis benefited from that and went on to have a terrific season.

"Andy went out and did really well on loan and obviously [West Ham manager Sam Allardyce] came in and wanted to buy him.

“He's a good, big guy, he'll go away and do really well for West Ham. As a manager you have to make a decision and that's what I did."

'Was I speaking double Dutch?' - Moyes reiterates Rooney is not for sale

After Jose Mourinho revealed his admiration for the forward, the new Red Devils boss quashed speculation that he would exit Old Trafford, stating that he will remain at the club David Moyes has again insisted that want-away Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is not for sale.

Rooney was sent home from the club's tour of Asia on Thursday after picking up a hamstring injury just hours after touching down in Thailand, leading to renewed speculation about his future with the Premier League champions.

But, after Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho spoke of his admiration for Rooney in a press conference in Bangkok earlier on Friday, Moyes reiterated the club's position that the England forward would not be leaving.

"Unless I was speaking double Dutch, I said Wayne Rooney is not for sale," he said.

"People are entitled to talk about players. I think I have really covered all the things on Wayne. Manchester United is about a team, not one individual."

Goal exclusively reported in May that Chelsea and Arsenal were in for Rooney, after Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that the forward had handed in a transfer request.

Moyes happy with transfer plans despite Bayern's Thiago pursuit

Pep Guardiola appears to have scuppered the new Manchester United manager's plan to sign the talented 22-year-old, but the Scot insists he is happy with his transfer efforts Manchester United manager David Moyes has shrugged off concerns over his transfer policy in the wake of reports suggesting Barcelona starlet Thiago is headed to Bayern Munich.

The Red Devils embarked on their tour of Asia earlier this week but were hit by the news that Pep Guardiola has identified long-term target Thiago as the only signing he desires at Bayern.

The Spaniard now appears set to reject the £120,000-a-week contract offered by United - as revealed by Goal last month - in favour of linking up with his former boss.

But Moyes insists he is happy with his plans for the summer market and denied he was interested in the 22-year-old.

He told reporters: "There are targets we're chasing at this moment in time. At this moment in time, we're happy with how things are going."

When asked if Thiago remained a target, Moyes added: "I never said he was."

:shocked:Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan completes Fulham takeover

    cravencottage_2801988.jpg

NFL franchise owner Shahid Khan has completed a deal to buy Fulham, ending Mohamed Al Fayed's 16 years at the helm.

The Jacksonville Jaguars chief, a billionaire car parts manufacturer, was confirmed as the Cottagers' new owner on Friday evening after the Premier League approved the takeover.Al Fayed, who is understood to have conducted extensive talks with Khan's camp amid much secrecy, is due to speak to the media at 1pm on Saturday.

A statement on Fulham's official website read: "Mohamed Al Fayed has sold Fulham Football Club to Shahid Khan, the CEO of Flex-N-Gate Group and owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League in the United States.

    shahidkhan_576x324.jpg

"The transaction has been approved by the Barclays Premier League. Khan assumes 100 per cent ownership of the club, debt-free, as of today."The development stands to significantly boost Fulham's spending power, with Khan thought to be twice as wealthy as 84-year-old Al Fayed.

The Pakistan-born 62-year-old, who moved to America as a teenager, is ranked 179th in the Forbes 400 list of richest Americans with an estimated worth of £1.65 billion. He already has ties to London, with the Jaguars scheduled to play one NFL regular season game a season at Wembley for the next four years."(Mohamed Al Fayed) is giving me the privilege and responsibility of serving as the next custodian of Fulham Football Club," Khan said.

"I am extremely honoured to accept and want to thank him, on behalf of everyone who loves Fulham, for 16 years of exceptional service to the club. Mr Al Fayed rescued the club in its hour of need and has led it to a sustained place within the Premier League."Fulham is the perfect club at the perfect time for me. My priority is to ensure the club and Craven Cottage each have a viable and sustainable Premier League future that fans of present and future generations can be proud of."

Al Fayed, who converted previous loans into equity earlier this year, said: "My time of serving as the custodian of Fulham Football Club would one day come to an end, and I feel that time has now arrived."The time is right because I have found a very good man in Shahid Khan to accept the responsibility and privilege that I have enjoyed at Fulham since 1997. Fulham will be in very good hands."

Al Fayed transformed Fulham from a third-tier side to an established Premier League club during his tenure. Fulham reached the Europa League final three years ago and last season finished 12th in the league under the guidance of Martin Jol.

Wenger: My heart is with Arsenal

    article-2362144-1AC7EB89000005DC-741_634x456.jpg

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has held positive talks over renewing his contract and insists his "heart remains with the club" despite persistent links with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Wenger is believed to have been courted by PSG chiefs this summer as they struggled to find a replacement for the departing Carlo Ancelotti, but it seems the veteran tactician, who has been in charge of the north London club since 1996, is eager to extend his record breaking stay with the Gunners.Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis suggested last month that Wenger was ready to commit his long-term future to the club and now Wenger has revealed he is open to the prospect of signing a new deal before his current contract expires in the summer of 2014.

"I am committed to staying longer at this club," the 63-year-old told reporters in Indonesia, at the start of the club's pre-season Asia tour. "I've already had a chat with Ivan. It went very well, not a problem.

"The link with PSG is there because I'm French and I know the owners, but if that was the case then I would be there already. My heart is with Arsenal. I'm not at PSG because my heart is with Arsenal."What I will always do in the future is not to use my longevity (at this club) as an advantage to stay in this position if I don't do well. I've always shown my commitment to this club and I don't think I need to prove anything on that."

Wenger went on to clarify his position by admitting success in the final year of his current Arsenal contract would be crucial in deciding whether he will continue as manager beyond next summer."Would my decision depend on how well next season goes," he asked. "I am like anybody else, of course, it is important to see how well we do.

"I don't automatically assume that I will be here. I think I knew when I committed to my last contract and the contract before that the club were going through a very sensitive period, because we had less financial resources and the challenge was to stay at the top and in the Champions League during that period."We are coming out of that period and I hope in the next two or three years the club will be competing for the Premier League.

"What has been frustrating for me is that in recent years we couldn't give our fans what they expected of us, but now we are in a position where we want to compete for the title again. Our challenge is to close the gap on Man United, City and Chelsea."Nobody knows what effect the changes of manager will have at the clubs that finished ahead of us last season, but we hope to take advantage of our greater stability."

Wenger refused to be drawn on the progress of his reported bids for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain and Liverpool's Luis Suarez, despite persistent probing from reporters.

Tevez: Juventus tougher than Man City

    291720_heroa.jpg

The Argentina forward took part in his first training session with the Bianconeri and admits he was not used to such rigorous work in England Juventus striker Carlos Tevez thinks that pre-season training has been tougher than anything he experienced in the Premier League and insists he is ready to work hard for his new club.

The €12 million signing, who joined from Manchester City earlier this summer, is keen to prove to fans that he can up his game in the upcoming Serie A season.

"Well, after my first day of training I realised that I’ll certainly have to run much more than in England," he told reporters.

"Feeling the passion of the fans is important for me. I came here to work hard and it took me just half a session to realise I’ll have to work harder than in England."

Tevez will wear the No.10 shirt for the Bianconeri, previously donned by club legend Alessandro Del Piero, but he stressed that such a prospect is exciting rather than putting him under pressure.

"That doesn’t weight me down," the Argentine, 29, added. "It makes me feel important to receive such affection.

"I have joined a club that are ready to play for an historic third straight Scudetto and one that are also capable of challenging for the Champions League."

A perfect Combination to face the UCL :)
