Tevez, Llorente fire friendly blank for Juventus

    298691_heroa.jpg

Carlos Tevez, Fernando Llorente and Angelo Ogbonna played together for the first time as Juventus suffered mixed fortunes in the Trofeo TIM.The trio, signed by Juve in the close-season, were all named in the starting line-ups for the two fixtures in the pre-season tournament as Antonio Conte's side were beaten by Milan and then triumphed over Sassuolo.

Tevez had already opened his account for the club in a 7-0 win over Val d’Aosta on Saturday, but neither Ogbonna nor Llorente were able to do the same on Tuesday.Conte's side drew 0-0 with both Milan and Sassuolo in normal time, before losing to the former and beating the latter on penalties.

Sassuolo replaced usual Trofeo TIM competitors Inter this year and it was Rubinho who was the hero in the match against the Serie A newcomers. The 30-year-old Brazilian saved three penalties to ensure that Juventus ended the tournament with a 50 per cent record.

The Serie A champions have only won the competition once, with this success coming in Bari in 2009.

Manchester City to demand €7m for Kolarov as Galatasaray emerge as front runners

    292121_heroa.jpg

Manchester City will demand €7 million for full-back Aleksandar Kolarov, with Galatasaray having emerged as the front runners for his signature.

The former Lazio defender struggled for game time under previous City manager Roberto Mancini and new boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to offload the 27-year-old from his wage bill, with Kolarov on €105,000-a-week wages at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite the Serbian's excessive salary, Pellegrini and City will hold out for their €7m asking price for a player that cost the club €19m when he made the switch from Serie A back in 2010.

Italian champions Juventus, who moved to sign Carlos Tevez from the Premier League runners-up earlier in the transfer window, retain a long-standing interest in Kolarov, although Galatasaray have emerged as the leading candidates to land the left-sided defender.

After making just 11 Premier League starts last season and often playing second fiddle to Gael Clichy, Kolarov would be open to a transfer in search of regular first-team football and has previously gone on record in saying he would have to consider his future if he remained on the fringes at the Etihad Stadium.

Should Kolarov leave, he would be the seventh player to have quit City this summer, with the likes of Tevez, Maicon, Kolo Toure, Wayne Bridge, Roque Santa Cruz and Jeremy Helan all having already departed.

Barcelona to decide on new stadium before 2014

    276568_heroa.jpg

Barcelona finance director Javier Faus has revealed the club will come to a decision about whether to remain at Camp Nou or begin developing a new stadium by the end of 2013.

The Catalunya-based arena has housed the Blaugrana supporters for some 56 years, but the club's money-man says the Spanish giants will carefully examine three options by the end of the year - one of which entails building a new home - before allowing the club's supporters to vote on their preferred course of action.

He told reporters: "We don’t know what would be better financially. We’ve got three projects on the table: to build a stadium on the current site, next to it or somewhere else.

"We don’t want to be hasty about the decision. Before the year is up we’ll have everything ready to call a referendum on the matter."

Meanwhile, Faus went on to state Thiago Alcantara's sale to Bayern Munich represented good business from an economic perspective - but believes the Blaugrana will rue the Spaniard's departure from a sporting viewpoint.

"From a sporting point of view Thiago’s sale isn’t good, because he has a great future, but from economic point of view it’s not bad," he added.

"We got €25 million for a player, which is more than normal, it’s not bad, especially given that his buy-out clause was 18.

"We could make a lot of money selling, but some players are irreplaceable."

Ashley Cole: I owe Mourinho a good season

    256536_heroa.jpg

Ashley Cole has insisted that he "owes" Jose Mourinho his best form this season at Chelsea as he bids to prolong his career at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese manager controversially signed Cole in 2006 in exchange for William Gallas and the left-back won a domestic cup double in his only full season under Mourinho.

Cole was injured for long spells during that campaign and has revealed he is determined to show his manager what he is capable of in the upcoming campaign.

"Having the manager back now from 2006, the manager who bought me, is important because I still feel I owe him something," Cole told the Guardian.

"I didn't play as well as I could back then, and as well as I have for Chelsea since, when he bought me.

"I owe him a lot, personally. I wouldn't say he's different now. He's always had one aim, one objective, and that's to win. I think it doesn't matter what you've achieved in the game, or what you've done in football. You've got to train well and give him 100%."

Honda awaiting green light for Milan move - agent

    298366_heroa.jpg

CSKA Moscow midfielder Keisuke Honda is on the verge of completing a move to AC Milan this summer, according to the player's agent.

The Japan international has been repeatedly linked with a switch to San Siro in recent months, but CEO Adriano Galliani recently threw a proposed deal into some doubt by stating he could wait until the attacker's contract expires in the winter before swooping for the 27-year-old.

However, Honda's brother and representative, Hiroyuki, says the 68-year-old has made a U-turn on past comments by confirming the Rossoneri have lodged a "very good offer" with the Russian giants, who now just have to clear the sale.

He told Tuttomercatoweb: "We will meet with CSKA again for more talks, but what I can say is that Milan have a made a very good offer to CSKA.

"I don't know if we can wrap everything up today. We'll look to convince CSKA, because, for us, the deal is ready.

"Joining Milan is not about money, but prestige. Milan, Real Madrid and others are clubs with great value. It would be a big step forward in the career of Keisuke.

"We are waiting for CSKA to give Milan’s offer the OK, then we will be in Italy to finalise everything."

CSKA Moscow sporting director Roman Babaev has offered a conflicting assessment on the deal, though, by claiming his prized asset will not join the Italian giants.

"Honda to Milan? No, this is not true," he told Championat.com.

Honda has netted 19 times in 78 appearances for the capital club since arriving from VVV Venlo in 2009.

Soldado can leave for €30m, says Valencia president

    277202_heroa.jpg

Valencia president Amadeo Salvo has claimed that striker Roberto Soldado can leave the club if an interested buyer pays €30 million.

Andre Villas-Boas confirmed on Tuesday that Tottenham were interested in the Spain international as the club look to strengthen their options up front.

As Goal reported earlier, Tottenham have sent technical director Franco Baldini to negotiate a deal for the Spain frontman but the Spaniards have stated that they won't accept anything less than his buy-out clause.

"Soldado can go if he wants - for €30million and under our conditions," he told reporters.

"Valencia never had any intention of selling Soldado. If he goes then it is because the €30 million figure has been met, not a cent less or a cent more.

"The buying club will also have to accept Valencia's conditions of payment also.

"We agreed to meet Tottenham again to discuss the ways of paying and we did that because we understood that his buy-out clause would be met.

"Speaking about ways that deals are paid is normal and this will be done in a way that suits the financial department of Valencia and not that of any other clubs."

Soldado has a phenomenal goalscoring record at Valencia, having scored 81 goals in 141 appearances for Los Che.

Hamburg 1-3 West Ham: Jarvis inspires Hammers to pre-season win in Germany

    212990_heroa.jpg

West Ham picked up the first win of their pre-season tour of Germany with a 3-1 triumph against Hamburg on Tuesday.

Sam Allardyce's side were beaten 4-1 by Mainz on Saturday but bounced back at the Flensburger Stadion thanks to goals from Alou Diarra, James Tomkins and Ravel Morrison.

The Premier League side made the better start and were rewarded after 15 minutes when Diarra headed home following a Matt Jarvis cross.

And just 13 minutes later, Tomkins doubled his side's lead with a similar goal. Man of the match Jarvis delivered a perfect cross again, and this time it was the turn of the centre-back to nod in.

West Ham were in cruise control but, after 42 minutes, Heiko Westermann scored the game's third header to reduce the deficit.

However, Morrison struck from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Jarvis had been fouled in the box to send the Londoners in 3-1 up at the break.

Chances were at a premium in a second half that saw a number of changes, with the only scare for Allardyce and his team coming when Kevin Nolan went down with a knock.

The midfielder was fit enough to continue, though, as West Ham saw out the match comfortably. They now take on Eintracht Braunschweig in the final game of their tour on Saturday.

Falcao hits back over false age claims

    298352_heroa.jpg

Monaco striker Radamel Falcao has vehemently denied reports he lied about his age, with various media outlets claiming the striker was born in 1984 rather than 1986.

The Colombia international, who completed a move to Stade Louis II this summer for a reported €60 million in June, is accused of falsifying his date of birth following the release of his school records which suggest the forward is actually 29 years old.

According to the striker's Fifa registration Falcao was born on February 10, 1986 but Colombian TV station Noticias Uno claim the star was actually born two years earlier.

However, the former Atletico Madrid hitman has taken to Twitter to rubbish the rumours, which he describes as "totally ridiculous".

He wrote: "I have been surprised with the news surrounding my age recently, and the claims are totally ridiculous."

"I want to categorically deny these claims and put this issue to bed once and for all."

Falcao earned his big-money move to the Principality this summer after netting 70 times in 90 appearances for Atleti throughout his two-year stay in the Spanish capital.

Rooney will play in Stockholm, insists Moyes

David Moyes expects Wayne Rooney to feature for Manchester United in their pre-season game against AIK in Stockholm next month.Rooney's future at Old Trafford has been shrouded in doubt throughout the close-season, with Chelsea already having a bid for the England international rejected.

The 27-year-old has been unsettled since being left out of the United team to play Real Madrid in the second leg of their last-16 Champions League tie in March by former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Rooney has also flown home from the club's pre-season tour of Asia with a hamstring injury, but after watching his side lose to Yokohama F. Marinos on Tuesday, new boss Moyes revealed the striker should be available for their friendly with AIK on August 6. "I do expect Wayne to be in Stockholm," the Scot told reporters.

"As far as I know he is coming on, he has started light jogging and the feedback from the physios is that he is progressing so hopefully those dates will still be right when we get back."

With Chelsea rumoured to be preparing another bid to take Rooney to Stamford Bridge, Moyes also reiterated that the player will not be sold. "We have said and the club have said he is not for sale," he insisted. "That has not changed."

Perez: Ronaldo will retire at Madrid

    298624_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists the club have received no offers for Cristiano Ronaldo and is adamant the 28-year-old forward will end his career with the Blancos.

Premier League champions Manchester United and Ligue 1 big-spenders Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked with moves for the Portugal international over the summer, with Ronaldo yet to agree an extension to his existing contract that runs until 2015.

Perez, however, has assured Madrid supporters that Ronaldo will not be sold and insisted that he will remain at the Bernabeu for the rest of his career.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in the world and Real Madrid revolves around him," he told L'Equipe.

"I can assure you that this is where he will end his career. And we have not received any offer."

Ronaldo, who finished the 2012-13 campaign as Madrid's top scorer with 34 goals in as many La Liga games, notched two goals in his side's 6-0 pre-season friendly win over Bournemouth on Sunday.

Moyes sweats on Van Persie and Welbeck fitness

    298537_heroa.jpg

Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck both picked up knocks in Manchester United's loss to Yokohama F. Marinos, David Moyes has revealed.

Van Persie - who was the Premier League's leading scorer in his first campaign at Old Trafford in 2012-13 - was taken off at half-time with a thigh problem, while England international Welbeck pulled up sharply with a groin issue but continued.
These injuries compounded United's misery as they were beaten 3-2 at the Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, meaning new boss Moyes has now seen his side lose two of their three pre-season friendlies to date.

Moyes is already without the unsettled Wayne Rooney, who had to fly home just a few hours after arriving on the tour with a hamstring injury and is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea. "We've got a couple of wee worries," the manager told MUTV. "Robin just felt his thigh in the first half and we didn't want to take any chances.

"Danny Welbeck felt his groin when he came on and we've just got to make sure they're all okay especially with so many games coming up."We've still got a few games to play before the season starts when we get back home."

Moyes will hope his side can bounce back to claim a win over Cerezo Osaka in their next pre-season game on Friday.

Tottenham counting on Bale, admits Villas-Boas

Andre Villas-Boas has reiterated that Gareth Bale is not for sale despite reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Spanish newspaper Marca claimed that the Wales international had already agreed a deal to sign for Madrid for next season, but the Tottenham manager denied the reports and remained adamant that the player's future would be at White Hart Lane.

"On Gareth, I want to repeat what I was telling you last season and what I was telling you from the beginning of pre-season," he said. "He's a player that we are willing to continue to have, he's a Tottenham player, he's one of the most fantastic players in the world at the moment and we are counting on him for the future.

"Unfortunately against Sunderland he won't be fit to play, he's recovering from a knock he had in training so we expect him hopefully to have some involvement in the second game."Bale’s agent had previously hinted at a potential move to the Spanish giants, while Manchester United also enquired about the 24-year-old only to be stunned by Spurs' €82m asking price.

Bale is with the Tottenham squad in Hong Kong for the Asia Cup but will not be involved in their opening match with Sunderland due to injury.

Higuain agrees bumper €42m Napoli contract

    298260_heroa.jpg

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is poised to join Napoli after agreeing a mammoth contract with Rafa Benitez's side.

The Serie A runners-up had already settled a €37 million fee with Madrid for the transfer of the Argentine, but image rights threatened to derail negotiations over personal terms.

But those issues were resolved during negotiations on Tuesday and Higuain will now pen a five-year, €163,000-per-week contract worth €42.3m in salary alone.

Napoli's transfer business has been funded by the €63m sale of Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain, and they have already closed two deals with Madrid this summer alone.

Defender Raul Albiol and attacker Jose Maria Callejon have already left Santiago Bernabeu for the San Paolo, while Dries Mertens, Pablo Armero and Rafael, among others, have also joined as Benitez looks to compensate for the loss of the Uruguay hitman.

Arsenal had been confident of wrapping up a deal for Higuain in June, having negotiated a contract worth €116,000-per-week with the 25-year-old.

But the Gunners' attempts to finalise a deal with Madrid hit the buffers after the Liga runners-up resisted an improved €26.8m offer.

Arsene Wenger has since turned his attentions to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, with the Londoners submitting a third offer of £35m plus £7m in add-ons on Tuesday.

Wenger recently claimed that the club could afford to pay Wayne Rooney's wages should the striker leave Manchester United, but a move for Suarez has become the Frenchman's priority.

The battle for Bale: Real Madrid may want him but United may now hold the key to signing the Tottenham superstar

    article-2375342-1AF6A6B3000005DC-762_306x423.jpg

According to those who know him, Gareth Bale remains a down-to-earth kind of footballer.
For example, when he plays for Wales in Cardiff, he still gets his mum Debbie to record the game so that he can go ‘home’ afterwards and watch it.
Success, they say, hasn’t changed him much. Even he, though, must have found his head swirling on Tuesday when the front page of Spanish sports paper Marca claimed — somewhat prematurely it appears — that he has agreed a six-year deal to join Real Madrid.
Bale, remember, wasn’t even a regular in the Tottenham team when Harry Redknapp arrived at White Hart Lane in 2008. Indeed, so unconvinced was Redknapp initially by the young left-back that he offered him to Manchester City as bait for Craig Bellamy.
Now, in the summer of 2013, Bale is one of Europe’s most sought-after footballers, coveted by Madrid and Manchester United, and destined, it seems, for the very highest level of the European game at some time in the next 12 months.
Spurs, of course, are trying to hang on for another season at least and who can blame them?
Without their most influential player, Andre Villas-Boas and his entertaining team will find themselves short of what is needed for a top-four finish.
With Bale still in harness, Tottenham still have a chance and no wonder Villas-Boas was talking in such belligerent fashion on Tuesday when asked in Hong Kong about the future of the 24-year-old.

I want to repeat what I was telling you last season and what I was telling you from the beginning of pre-season so I cannot extend myself,’ said Villas-Boas.
‘He’s a Tottenham player, he’s one of the most fantastic players in the world at the moment and we are counting on him for the future.’
It is easy to sympathise with Villas-Boas. Tottenham will sell Bale before long. It makes sense. The timing, though, is everything and it is clear that they will do what they can this summer to prevent him leaving, before September 1 heralds the closing of the summer trading window.
Interest from Real is genuine, as indeed it is from United. As it stands, an offer is most likely to come from Old Trafford.
It is hard to see Real testing Tottenham’s resistance while Cristiano Ronaldo remains at the Bernabeu and it is worth noting that Carlo Ancelotti also has another direct wide forward currently in his squad, Argentina international Angel di Maria.

Taking that into account, does Ancelotti need Bale? Not really. Not until Ronaldo leaves, at least, and when looked at from that angle it seems as though United may hold the key to all this.
As we know, United have flirted with the notion of a dramatic and sentimental return for Ronaldo. Some people in football insist it will still happen. As time moves on, however, it seems ever more difficult for United to pull off.
More possible is that the Barclays Premier League champions harden their interest in Bale himself.
Former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has long been a fan of the Welshman, having tried to bring him to Old Trafford before Spurs signed him from Southampton in 2007. Now that the baton has been passed to David Moyes at United, the admiration for Bale remains.
Moyes knows that Bale would bring an awful lot to his team but — as Sportsmail first reported in early June — United are reluctant to begin another period of painful sparring with their old adversary, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. Negotiations with Levy tend to be as painful and drawn out as pulling teeth and without any guarantee of a successful resolution.
United have experience — having bought Michael Carrick in 2006 and Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 — and it is this that makes them nervous.

Equally, though, the club’s owners the Glazers want a marquee signing this summer and the more other avenues begin to close off the more likely a serious attempt to get Bale out of Tottenham becomes.
Luka Modric has long been on United’s back-up list as they look for a creative midfielder, while Moyes has a week to decide whether to close in on Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, as the Belgian’s £22m buy-out clause expires on July 31.
Certainly, the longer Barcelona’s stubbornness over Cesc Fabregas goes on, the more likely it is that something will have to give. United need players and Moyes has already indicated publicly this week that he cannot wait forever.

United’s fanbase are also starting to get a little agitated. Moyes is aware of this and remains calm. When he looks across the landscape, though, he can see his rivals spending money, strengthening. If this doesn’t make him nervous yet then it soon will do.
Bale, for his part, is keen to better himself before long. Represented by the experienced agent Jonathan Barnett, he will get his move eventually and those of us who enjoy watching him play so much can only hope he remains in the Premier League.
There are too few of his ilk left. For once it’s all too easy to understand all the fuss.
