In a media briefing held this evening, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced the launch of the Sri Lanka Cricket Super Fours 2014 Tournament for the second consecutive time. The tournament will be played from 27th June – 02nd July, 2014 at the SSC grounds.
Ajit Jayasekera – Director, Sri Lanka Premier League who is also heading the Super Fours organizing committee, highlighting the importance of the tournament said, “This is a tournament which will have 4 provincial teams where the T20 world champion team players will participate, while giving an opportunity for the up and coming cricketers to play and interact with them.” Also, he further invited all partners involved, including the media and the sponsors to be to extend their fullest support to build it to a higher level in time to come.
Head of Cricket Operations, Mr. Carlton Bernardus explaining about the tournament said that cricket is being played under different formats and SLC wants to mould players to compete at the highest level under each of these formats. Re-introducing Super Fours is one such initiative. Also, he further said that we have to maintain the momentum which we have gained by winning the world championship in T20.
The logo of the tournament was also unveiled during the event and it was designed to reflect bravery, and competitive nature of the tournament. Media were briefed in detail about the tournament arrangements and the opportunities available for the sponsors to be the partners of Super Fours tournament to promote it to the next level. In addition, SLC, also, announced Mr. Ajit Jayasekera – Director, Sri Lanka Premier League as their official spokesperson for Sri Lanka Cricket Super Fours Tournament.
Sri Lanka Cricket Supper Fours is the premier T20 Tournament in Sri Lanka, which commenced in 2013. It was introduced with an intention of creating a window for local players to take part in the Champions League T20 (CLT20), the annual international T20 cricket competition played amongst the top domestic teams from major cricket playing nations. CLT20, which was launched in 2008, feature teams from India, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
