Lost wheel
I've lost a rear tyre (tyre may have lost pressure due to a puncture, and low pressure make the tyre bulging, and rub the shock absorber mounting bolt head, and peel off like a banana ) at about 110 km/h . It is a 2012 civic, done only 45,000km, but due to my rough use, tyres worn out even before the 50k service. Anyhow I was in a 100km/h clear straight road. I usually go little bit faster because I know this road like back of my hand. I heard very fine noise followed by a FLAP, FLAP, sound, try to slow down and get off the road. But vehicle stability control system kick in and not allow me to do what I needed to do as quickly as I want.
I came to a halt after 100m from where I first heard the noise. After I got the spare wheel on, I just check the tyre marks on the road. I realise there is no tyre marks further than 20-25 from where I stop, but I lost the tyre completely at least another 50 or more meters further up the road, doing well over 100km/h.
When doing 110km/h it's actually not touching the road with full load, but when I slow down to about 75/80 it start to mark the road, and marks getting thicker and deeper as I slow down to a complete halt.
With this experience, I can tell you, if you doing 110km/h or more and lost a rear tyre in a front wheel drive car, you may be able to continue at the same speed without that wheel, if you happy to disregard the damage to the car. Driving straight may ok, but turning a bend might make things ugly.
